Is it just me... or do chars look different in the dark

Ok, so I went experimenting with different female facial mods at attempts at recreating those good looking girls mod makers show on their screenshots. I would say that it is successful to a point that my character looks in a way, similar to what the screenshots shows when light is facing them (meaning standing in front of a light source or facing toward the sun). Now, I noticed something really strange (or might be normal) that when I turn the characters away from the light and there is shadow casted on the faces, I noticed they look different than what they look like in front of the light. When they are facing the light, they look more innocent and happy (I have tried envision face and oriental races) while under the shade or in darkness, they look evil or tired (or old). It is just strange that the beauty of skyrim characters is only shown under bright lights. Now... is this problem only with me or is it just how skyrim is...

Thank you.

Yeah this is a problem with how the game (or FaceGen) by default. It's been that way even in Oblivion (I never played Morrowind so I wouldn't know), and even in Fallout. I don't remember the technical explanation, but let's just say that it happens because of how the game does facial textures. You might sometimes see unbelievably thick eyebrows on some characters, or a "milkstache", and it becomes more apparent when you're in a darkened area. In the daylight, the characters look just fine.
