  1. 1. Would you sign a pettition to make beth put in error reporting

    • Yes, I think it's a good idea as it would make my life easier.
    • No, I'm smart enough to know what the problem is instantly so I don't need it.

Level 32 now with auto update turned off and not added any mods since re starting and NO PROBLEMS!.

One thing that may not have helped was i had Google Earth and it runs update checks in the BG and periodically these would fail and an error message would minimise Skyrim. Then i had to do Ctr/Alt/Del to get Skyrim back. I have deleteed google Earth for this play through.

@StanIsTheLaw, yeah, Microsoft still denies that Windows 7 is bugged and Windows and 3rd party applications steal focus,

especially annoying popup messages. You might be able to configure Google Earth never to notify if updates fail.

@xlcr much better to turn off non essential processes and services when playing games (especially Skyrim which needs as much of the CPU's resources free as possible)

IOBit have a couple of useful apps that can do this for you, but be quick as Game Booster will only have a free version for another 26 hours, but Advanced System Care doesn't have a deadline on downloading (click on the learn more link on that page) and turn on Turbo Boost from the main menu.

both are easy to configure and can free up around 30% to 40% of your system resources :)

@mighty zog, agreed, first thing i had to do after upgrading to Windows 7 is figure out exactly what all the services/processes were doing plus a lot of

other annoying things Microsoft enabled by default and either disabled or reconfigured everything correctly as necessary for performance reasons.

I have to comment that it seems Microsoft sure muddied the waters with all the new and undefined service/process/settings they created.

This is in addition to all the ridiculous useless bloatware that came pre-installed on my gaming laptop that i needed to

practically surgically remove to maintain a fully functional lean machine lol.

Only reason i suggested a popular 3rd-party utility like 'game booster' is that many people do not have the knowledge/experience to

go in and manually optimize their gaming rigs without breaking something.

(i'm an IT guy and never used/needed utilities like this running in my system).

Thanks for sharing the tip on iobit's free game booster 3 app.

not knowing if a process is essential or not is a major handicap when trying to optimise your rig. IOBit take away the guesswork and that's a good thing

edit to add: it is also a good idea to set your fan speed manually so that everything stays as cool as possible.

I use EVGA Precision X to adjust my fan speed and that has helped a huge amount. I have no idea what the equivalent is for other cards but there must be one

******WARNING!!!! IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING JUST TURN UP THE FAN SPEED AND STAY AWAY FROM THE OVERCLOCKING STUFF******

@EchoWhiskey94, 'RpcNs' is usually associated with the 'RPC Name Service' (Remote Procedure Call)

which for network locator convenience maps a logical name (like 'my laserprinter') to a binding handle

(like a specific protocol sequence, network address, endpoint, long/shortname).

Not sure exactly what service/feature Game Booster might be disabling, might be the 'RpcEdtMapper' service

(RPC Endpoint Mapper) which svchost service depends on and is somewhat vital in a Windows 7/8 machine.

Do you run Skyrim in offline mode?

I voted yes in answer to the way the question is formulated:

- "Would you sign a petition to make Beth put an error reporting" about crashing to desktop.

I think it important, however, if we could be more precise about the kind of CTDs we'd like them to take in consideration and that would be modless games CTDs for all the obvious reasons mentioned in this thread.

I "CTDied" playing Skyrim even before I added the slightest mod to my game - I made sure I reached level 35 or so before I started using mods. So yes, sure, I would like to know when CTDs are not related to any mod, but to the game itself. That would certainly help us a lot, as well as prevent us from blindly "blaming" mods for random crashes just because they just happened righ after installing one!.. (I play Skyrim on PS3 too, and crashes happen on PS3 and 360 just as well, there's no way any mod could be blamed for those...).

In the meantime, we can also relate to some very well documented Wikis to report the most common ones of these errors.
