Look at this gorgeous gun (the FG-42)

Isn't it beautiful? I think it's oughta be the pinnacle of German engineering. The style. The functionality. The *wow* factor. The Fallschirmjäger Gewehr 42, or Paratrooper Rifle model 42, was issued to, you guessed it, German paratroops in WWII. To me, it was an engineering marvel, and I think it would make a lovely addition to the Fallout 4 weapons roster. It already made an appearance in a Fallout: New Vegas mod, and I think it's only natural to enjoy it in Fallout 4 as well.

Incredibly, the rifle weighed just about 10lbs loaded, similar to a Thompson SMG...although it was longer and fired a much more powerful cartridge than the Tommygun. And despite it's relative lightness, powerful round, and impressive fire rate, it was easily kept on target in bursts. Another point worth noting is it's unique action; capable of select-fire, it was able to fire from a closed bolt in semi-auto and when switched to full auto it fired from an open bolt. This lended more accuracy while taking single shots and allowed the gun to cool more easily when used in full auto. Quite impressive if you ask me. It also featured an integral bayonet and bipod, as well as flip-up sights!

Why do these facts matter? Well because I think it's important to illustrate that the FG-42 isn't just another gun...it's a rifle that would feel unique in the game. Hell, I'd be willing to contribute my own time into seeing it come to be...in ways a person with little to no modding experience could.

Anyways, that's my suggestion...hoping someone bites, because there's not many other guns I'd want to see in Fallout 4 more than this one.

It is an expensive toy for General Goering....But it is certainly one of the best rifles.
Anyway, according to the image section, it seems that some users are trying FG-42. However, one has not been released yet.

As with all the best weapons, it'll require custom animations. It almost fits the 'Assault Rifle', or the Pipe Gun, but the magazine is too far back and the hand placement is probably going to end up floating, not to mention the bolt being on the wrong side. If only Bethesda was more reasonable/practical with their weapon designs.

How difficult is animating? Is it a talent/skill thing, or just a patience/time thing? I can do patience and time myself, as long as the programs are easy enough to work with. What if I just buy a premade model of the thing? Would that speed the process along or does it create other issues (like incompatibility)?

I'd be ecstatic to have this made as a mod, so I'm willing to put effort and time in myself to seeing it made.

It's a bit of both. To make good animations that look appropriate is definitely a talent, but they are also time consuming, especially if you want a full set for both first and third person. The other problem is the programs used. As far as I am aware animations for Fallout 4 can only be made in 3D Studio Max, a program that either requires a student code or hundreds of dollars to use, unless, you know, piracy. You'd need to get your hands on the program, learn how to use it in general, then learn specifically how to animate, then how to set up animation files and keyword links for Fallout 4.

If the Fallout 4 skeleton ever works in Blender I might give some animating a shot, but I'm behind even in that program. I use an old version of Blender for my models because it's what I learned on and I've been putting off updating because the interface has changed and it would hinder my progress to relearn it.

I have the time to do the animation...but I definitely can't justify the cost of the program; dear lord, and I thought the Adobe programs were pricey.

So my best bet would be to try appealing to someone who has access to 3D Studio Max then...

You can try learning blender (https://www.blender.org/) its free, though I couldn't tell you if its what you need.

Unless something's been updated very recently Blender does not support the Fallout 4 skeleton rig needed for animations.

Well damn it lol.
