Extreme Lag While Playing Skyrim

Hi, this is my first post and I hope I'm not posting this on the wrong section. If so, please move this thread to the correct section. Just new to the forums. Here's my system specs:

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5200 2.7 GHZ

Memory: 2GB Ram

Video Card: Nvidia GeForce GT 430 (updated to latest, Beta driver)

Ok so here my problem goes. I installed Skyrim then I installed a DLC HD Texture pack from a site (which is 3 GB in size) and updated it to 1.5, edited Skyrimprefs.ini and Skyrim.ini (I know how it goes). I launched the game and it detected my hardware to High Setting but I stayed to Medium to reduce lag. Game seems no problem and no lag so I made a new game and waited till they are in line for execution (makes the first save file and I know this isn't a spoiler isn't it?). I closed the game afterwards after making a new save file. Okay so here's where the extreme lag started. I download mods here and did a manual installation 'cause I can't make the NMM work. An error always appear after clicking the desktop shortcut that's why I did manual. I downloaded like 70+ mods and copied to its designated folder (which I know I did correctly) and after I finished modding, I enabled all mods in Data Files and after clicking Play, it crashes to desktop after bethesda logo (which I fixed, luckily I found a mod which was causing it and disabled it) and correct me if I'm wrong but mods with same file name and has both .esp .esm can't be enabled at the same time right? So after fixing the bethesda crash, I'm in the main menu but experiencing major lag. It lags so bad that you can't move the mouse cursor smoothly. Any help pls? Thanks in advance.

Edit: I Finally fixed the extreme lag. Overlapping mods seems to have caused it. But I have a new problem now. Skyrim is crashing on loading screen, I've tried loading a different save file, but still no luck. Still crashing on the loading screen. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I don't think I have any mods named Boss but I tried what you did and still crashes to desktop after loading screen. I've tried restoring Skyrimprefs.ini and Skyrim.ini but still crashes. I have also verified its integrity twice but still crashes.

BOSS is a program that helps you order your mods. If you are not using that or Wrye Bash, then your problem could very well be load order issues. The way Skyrim works, anytime two mods use the same file, the last mod loaded overwrites the previous. Unless your mods are in the correct loading order, you are likely to run into problems.

Wrye Bash can do a bit more than BOSS, but BOSS is simple to use and would meet your needs if you have never optimized your load order.

You can find BOSS here:BOSS Just read and follow instructions for installation and use--note that it is not a mod, it is a separate program. I have mine downloaded to my desktop, and run it every time I add a new mod.

So meaning to say Boss is like a NMM that can manage my mods? Seems like a handy program. I'll give it a try if the crash still exists after using boss. And thanks for always answering my questions. I'll try reinstalling Skyrim again. Maybe start from fresh would be best. I have the whole day to finish this. My classes starts tomorrow. I can't play Skyrim much after today. So I better finish it. Will update later.

And also, I can't run BOSS Installer without NMM so still need to fix this first before I can move on to BOSS. Thanks.

  • 2 years later...

try a new thread..this one is nearly 2.5 years old....the Original posters problem was this...

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
Processor: AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core Processor 5200 2.7 GHZ
Memory: 2GB Ram

BARELY enough to even attempt the Vanilla game, and the OP added the HR Dlc's on top...lmao.

So ya...start a new thread, give as much info as you can , what you have installed, what you have tried, YOUR system specs...:)
