Reknurg
Hi there guys, hoping someone can help me out here. My load order isn't exactly slim but it's not insane either. I'm pretty sure I've got everything set up pretty well, but I'm still experiencing A LOT of crashes - especially on loads or attempts to save with CASM. I'd say I'm crashing every 10 or 15 minutes of play, which is a bit too much to bear. Also, which is also weird: some saves will cause windows to think F:NV is loading infinitely, causing Win10 to give me a "this program is taking long to respond" prompt, but then with a little patience, the save loads just fine. However recently, I have had some saves where FX sounds cut out, and then the game crashes soon thereafter. I am of course using NVSE and other such things. I know I'm using a lot of texture mods, but my machine is pretty beastly and should be able to handle it - and I have next to no performance issues in game. When the game plays it loads lightning fast and rarely if ever lags. Also this is probably related: on the first few boot-ups, the main menu loaded pretty quickly. Now there is mouse lag for about 10 seconds and then the menu loads. EDIT: Damn, SHIFT + ENTER doesn't bring up ENB menu anymore either. The hell is going on? Anyone got an idea what might be up here? dubiousintent
Please see the 'Common Game Problems' section of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. If the problem persists, then see the 'Solutions to Starting the game problems' section in the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" guide. * You really need to use a "Merge Patch File" with that collection of mods. Please see the 'Third Rule: The Rule of One' and 'Merge Patch File' sections of the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article. If that is not enough to resolve your issues, Please provide ALL the information requested in the wiki "How to ask for help" article. Don't forget to identify things that do not appear in the "load order", such as NVSE and it's related plugins, texture replacements (specifically their larger image sizes: 1024x1024, etc.), and "post-processors" like ENB or SweetFX. -Dubious-
Reknurg
Thanks for your reply. I did try all of the solutions mentioned on the advice page, including regedits and Win10 settings. I didn’t create a bashed patched since some of my mods mentioned in the description that it could cause problems?
dubiousintent
A "bashed patch" is just one form of a "merge patch", one created using Wrye Flash. You can also create one manually using FNVEdit. However, the merge patch reconciles a lot of record conflicts (12000 in my case), so you may want to combine the approaches: create a "bashed patch" and then a manual "override patch" to correct the results you don't like from the bashed version. Not sure why any mod would say it causes problems, unless the author means it might result in a result they don't intend (which could be true). But so will not resolving record level conflicts which result in an earlier loading plugin being skipped completely. Please see the 'Third Rule: The Rule of One' and 'Merge Patch File' entries in the wiki "FNV General Mod Use Advice" article, and the wiki "Merged Plugin Guidelines for Personal Use" article which cover these concepts. Your reply only mentioned the "advice" article. If they were not sufficient, then you need to look in the "Troubleshooting" article for the specific symptoms and solutions. * Be aware that one error may mask a number of other errors, which will not appear until those masking them have been resolved. Building a stable game consists of resolving each problem individually until none remain, and then realizing that every change you make thereafter (including updates to mods already installed) run the risk of introducing new problems. Be prepared to revert to a previous save if you do so. If absolutely nothing changes, then you need to provide more detail about the circumstances surrounding each error. Treat them as separate problems. -Dubious-
Reknurg
Alright, made a bashed patch! Also I did also use some tweaks from the Troubleshooting article. And well all the tinkering, it worked! Yay! Sort off... the game loads saves lightning-fast and has stopped crashing (playable!). A bit of stuttering has come back though, but I can live with it no issues. What's more concerning is the load times and fluidity is so good I'm starting to suspect I might have turned on some setting that has made (some of) my Texture mods stopped working . One clue to this is there is no longer an "Available texture memory: ###" message when I boot up the game... Any way to check this, or any idea what might have caused it to happen? Deleted54170User
In Game Graphics settings under Details I unticked "Depth of Field" and "Transparency Multisampling" just to see what would happen. All the other advanced settings I set to almost to the maximum, just one number shy in each. I followed the Wiki Instructions; turn off the games Automatic Save functions. The person who wrote all the instructions wrote, turn off all of Steams Interface settings in Steam settings too, put STEAM in Go Offline, and since all of the functions STEAM provides then are nil; the person suggested to disconnect from the Internet as well. I played until the first crash. Thought about how long it had been since I remembered the Automatic Save functions were off. I figured I probably should have Saved a couple of times. I added the FNV4GB software. I played the game without saving for about an hour and a half. I decided to do my own saves whenever I walked up to a door, finished a task, or realized I had just won a battle that took a few minutes. I could play almost for a couple of hours if I was lucky. I don't know for sure if being off line makes much difference. I do know that anything that searches for patch updates, searching for all the computers in a home or business network, and tries to determine the Internet Bandwidth while online; all use RAM. I found a couple more "RAM eaters" in the Network and Internet settings when I clicked on the adapter settings to Disable my Internet connection. I opened, "Change adapter options". I right clicked on the "Ethernet" icon. Disable was at the top. I saw the "Preferences" tab. I wondered. I left clicked on it. Ooo! Right at the top, "Client for Microsoft Networks", Gamers and Home users were informed; what seems like 100's of years ago now, to untick that. Why?! Because our computers are not part of Microsoft's Networks. "I thought, "Should do this?" Sure! No big ding!) I looked at all the nice new settings in the menu. (What's this?!) Unticked "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks". Then I saw some newer stuff! Wow! I checked them out. After researching the two at the bottom I unticked, "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder" and "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver" and tested my ISP connection speed. I did that with both of them Off, one at a time and On one at a time. I did that with them both On several times and with them both Off several times at dslreports.com. I got better Download and Upload speeds with them both Off. Just for more fun with Tech I decided to keep the Internet connection on while I played, "Fallout: New Vegas" during the noon hour. I played, saved game as I mentioned and played, until it crashed. The game finally crashed 2 hours and 30 minutes after I started. There's that horrible leak that the game is plagued with. It bit me again. The longest I have ever played without a crash; 2 hours and 30 minutes while still with Steam Online. I'm turning Steam to Play Offline next time. Just to see if I can set an new record of play time, remembering to make those Game SAVES often. I mean saving the game as though it was set to Automatically save. GAME ON! I have all the DLC's and patched stuff Recommended at the wiki listed FNV wiki mentioned. dubiousintent
A good (and often overlooked) point. There are some caveats. Added 'Issue: System Network configuration' to the "Performance" section of the wiki "Fallout NV Mod Conflict Troubleshooting" article. -Dubious-

I turned off the Microsoft Networks, print sharing and the two Link-Layer options and doubled my download speed. Thank you, again. After several tests at dslreports.com with both of these unticked, "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder" and "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver" I averaged out that my upload and download speeds were within 0.40 Mbits ps of each other. Both almost the same speeds with about 4 Mbits ps higher Off (unticked) then with them On (ticked). While the two were ticked the download speed was slower averaging about 4 Mbits less, and the upload speed often only reached half the speed test that downloading did. I usually get a lot higher speeds then 12 Mbps, and while testing yesterday (during a rain storm) I got a maximum of about 13,5 Mbits ps from both dL and ul with them both off. With both of them On I got the high of 9.4 Mbits ps down and 6 Mbits uploading. Not good. I suspect the two, "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Responder" and "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver" do little more then throw in their test functions, "Link-Layer Topology Discovery Mapper I/O Driver" may actually "use our GBytes of Data" while it checks all the little things it does and that maybe what slows the Download and Upload speed results. I intend to STUDY THE TWO purposes before I leave them unticked all the time, if and when I am online.
