Reducing Crashes (Layman's terms)

Hello. So for the most part my modding experience has been going well. However, starting about last week I've been having very frequent crashes. Often a sudden freeze when opening a menu (and then the most recent autosave becomes corrupted even though I have autosave on menu turned off). I'm also getting frequent CTDs.

I'm entirely certain my load order is good so I won't be posting it. What I'm asking is for other ways to reduce crashes. I've attempted looking things up but a lot of the fixes use technical terms that I am not familiar. Can someone advise me on possible fixes in extremely plain language, and what ones might be needed?

For example, I don't really understand what a "bashed patch" is or if I even need one with the mods I have.

Things I have already done include:

1. Ensuring I have a proper load order (though I may post one later in this thread if needed or requested)

2. Using TESedit to clean mods that required cleaning (I was also careful not to clean mods that I am specifically not meant to)

3. I'm in the process of trying "safety load".

I also want to make note of the fact that, aside from cleaning dirty edits, I don't really understand the full application of TESedit. While I'm a pretty quick study, I don't know most technical terminology so its hard to find things that are explained in a manner I understand. My expertise was never computers and I'm actually impressed with how far I've come since I started modding.

since you won't post your load order it's going to be problematic to help you, knowing your load order would better help people help you

as far as Wrye Bash goes, I can help you under stand that better, take a look at my guide below, specifically ALL of steps 2 & 3

Thank you. I didn't feel the need to post the load order as I have previously gone over it. I haven't made changes to my mod lineup for quite some time so the load order is definitely fine. This is more of a general fix, as I've had crashes even with my un-modded xbox skyrim.

In short I just wanted clarification on some common solutions that are unrelated to load order in easy to understand terms. So if you have other crash fix solutions you are aware of, please let me know.

the best advice or help i can give you is once you install more than a few mods, you NEED a bashed patch

I once had someone tell me they didn't use a patch file because they only used 3 mods

i asked which 3?

He answered, Frostfall, Realistic Needs and Diseases, and Vilja

*slaps head with palm of hand*

3 of the MOST heavily scripted mods available for Skyrim lol

He then stated he also had SKYui and The unofficial patch, so he actually had 5 mods installed lol

once he made a Bashed patch, his game ran fine lol

I typically go with very few mods that involve scripting. My computer is old and can't handle much. So a majority of the mods are just new armors, weapons, and spells. In fact I'd say I only have two scripting mods where the scripting is significant and I watch carefully for conflicts.

Now I've noticed that wyre bash has requirements. comtypes 0.6.2, Python 2.7.1, pywin32-220 for python 2.7, wxpython2.8.12.1 unicode for python 2.7.

What exactly are these? (It's also possible I already have these and don't realize it. Happened to me in the past with other requirements.) But for arguments sake can I get some details on these?

BTW, I found what was causing my crashes already. Believe it or not it was an armor mod that must have been really poorly made. Even having the armors in my inventory increased the rate of crashing to a noticeable degree. After disabling that mod (and only that mod) things began to function as if they game were still vanilla.

you don't need the python version, there should be a version that says something like "standalone"

if your crashes were caused by an armor mod then you definitely need a bashed patch, most like some of your mods have leveled lists built into them

here is a DIRECT download link for you for the Wrye version you need :) - https://www.nexusmods.com/Core/Libs/Common/Widgets/DownloadPopUp?id=1000276763&game_id=110&source=FileExpander
