You could only get a finite amount or there would be some heavy restrictions on using it. (very rare materials or something to keep them -it- rare) and place it -Anywhere- and you could be able to go back to the exact point where you place it earlier, regardless of location. Obviously, if it's quest related and you have to pass through a pre-requisite area first that would be a restriction.
