charwo
Hey there! Just got the FOSE to work (silly me, I thought it was to be uploaded like a mod!) And after spending and incredibly frustrating, and rewarding, hour with the motorcycle mod, I must say it's quite awesome! But....It's not what I'm looking for. Here's my observations: 1. Fast is FUN!2. Fast gets you killed very, very fast.3. The motorcycle is completely irresponsive to my desire to reconfigure the controls (I much MUCH prefer the arrow keys, or even a NumLock, /,*,- configuration)4. I would very much like a first person perspective (with the mouse doing the turning, as is done on foot)5. No trunk space And this being Fallout 3, it makes me wonder how much true utility a vehicle would be considering how much of the DC Downtown is blocked off. While it sounds like when I finally go for New Vegas I will be being going hard core for the Corvega Mod. I do want to ask if there is a version of it for Fallout 3 I have missed, and if so, can you drive from the outskirts to the Mall and the GNR building? At this point, I'm thinking I should just modify my speed setting to run really fast and play a clip of a motorcycle running on my phone. It would be most of what I want: going fast, but a lot more controllable. So....what are my options here?
MichikoUnknownFox
Not much. FO3 was never designed to have fast rides, like I said before. The motorcycle mod felt more like a proof of concept rather than a completed mod. The author even stopped updating it so we'll never see any fixes for some of the glaring bugs it has. I remember seeing a drivable Hum-Vee You could also try this HoverChair. Take note, you'll also have problems with that. This Chimera tank is also drivable. There's actually a few more if you search the Nexus (not the forums, because there's too many results to filter) for "vehicle". Since you mentioned running fast, there is a sprint mods (this is included in FWE), and another one here. If you want to be able to run fast forever just edit the variables in-game (read the readme for instructions). But vehicle mods are usually just for fun anyway. The game wasn't designed for it (The Elder Scrolls games are surprisingly better platforms for them). You can't drive to the GNR building and many other places in the DC Ruins without going through load doors (not even with the hovercraft or any other means of flying over the barriers). The cells (bits of the game world) aren't connected in that way. Technically, you can make a mod for that kind of thing, but it won't be easy, because you're basically going to have to move entire cells and everything in them. It will conflict with other mods and the vanilla missions for that matter. Kinda like the Open Cities mod from Oblivion back in the day. I'm talking years and years of dedicated work from experienced modders before this is even feasible, and even then it would still have many issues and require a lot of compatibility patches. You learn to accept that Bethesda's Gamebryo games are horrible platforms for realism or any attempt at enjoyment through that. Horrible. But they're fun for modding. Especially if you yourself are the modder. Many of us modders spend way more time modding than actually playing (it's about 3:1 for me, it's much worse for some of the others, who haven't even played the game at all except to test their mods). You get a bit more freedom than most moddable games, with a fairly flexible scripting language especially with FOSE, and other things. You can literally use the modding platform to create an entire game, if you wanted.
charwo
Well there is another option: weld the dynamics of the Corvega mod to Fallout 3. GECK works on both. You don't drive as much as you fast travel through the car. And that sounds sweet cause it works like the Fallout 2 car in most respects. Besides, I want to drive one of those lovely green four door models like in the color version of Tranquility Lane. Giggity gitty goo.
MichikoUnknownFox
Just putting the Corvega from FNV into FO3 should work immediately actually. No need to convert it or anything.
charwo
Actually, if it's so easy, why has no one done it? I mean, I've been here a month, I've been playing the game for a week. I don't have a clue how to mod. Besides, you'd need a place to actually put the car in every fast travel locale except for anything on the actual Mothership Zeta, the sim of Operation Anchorage and probably Point Lookout (though car ferry would be snap!) That said, actually driving to Pittsburgh would be so cool, and totally inappropriate, but still cool. And then beyond placement, the car's gotta not be placed on top of some wondering civie or Mutant freak. Should I put this in mod requests, along with a paint gun option to do some variance of rusty and nifty pre-war colors (I've already called Green, but according to one of the modder resource, there's more colors than that!) MichikoUnknownFox
Actually, if it's so easy, why has no one done it? Dunno. Modders have various priorities. For example, I could care less about fast transport, because I like taking my time and killing every hostile critter I come across while commanding a small squad of mercenaries in doing so. Moving quickly is not at all in my agenda, so other than for having fun or for screenshot purposes, I don't use any sort of vehicle mod. Try putting it in requests. Maybe somebody already did it but hasn't uploaded. I have a lot of mods that I play with but haven't uploaded.
