Vortex showing Installed Programs

I updated to 0.16.0 a few weeks ago and it was showing my installed programs that I had on the drive it was installed on, so I uninstalled Vortex and went back to 0.15.9 today I saw there was a new version out and updated and it is doing the same.

Am I doing anything wrong? Vortex is installed on the C Drive.

When I go to move the install folder for SSE and FO4 it is defaulting to D:\ so I chose the folder I want and it moves all the programs that it can without permission into D:\Vortex\{GAME} when I close down Vortex and reopen it, it has defaulted back to D:\

Here is a screen shot of the mods tab

With the 0.15.9 version installed, please go to Settings->Mods and send a screenshot of that.

EDIT: Also, would be great if you could start up 0.16 and send in a feedback where you attach the application settings (from attach special files), but please don't change anything else inside 0.16

I have also sent feedback with the attachment you requested.

I didn't say this in my OP cause I forgot, but all my mods get flagged as uninstalled too and some are flagged as never installed.

Thank you for the reply Tannin.

Did you install vortex itself to the default location in c:\program files or use the custom installer to install it somewhere else?

I think the following should fix the issue, please be careful to enter commands exactly like this:

  1. Install Vortex 0.16.1 if you don't have it installed already. When it opens, quit immediately
  2. from the windows start menu, open the command prompt (type cmd.exe if you can't find it)
  3. type
    cd "c:\Program Files\Black Tree Gaming Ltd\Vortex\"
If you have used the custom installer you need to use your custom path instead
  4. type
    Vortex --set "settings.mods.installPath.fallout4=\"d:\\Vortex\\{GAME}\""
    vortex should reply with "changed"
  5. type
    Vortex --set "settings.mods.installPath.skyrimse=\"d:\\Vortex\\{GAME}\""
  6. Start Vortex again

Again, please type the commands exactly like that, every \ and every " is necessary.

If everything worked as intended the mod list should show your mods again. It probably disabled them all, afraid that can't be helped.

I used the default install, it only shows uninstalled in Vortex though. I do still have the Installed mod folders with all the files there.

When it updated to Test version 0.16.1 it didn't touch that folder as it was defaulting to D:\. So it left D:\Vortex\{GAME} folder alone.

I will zip that folder up and move it somewhere safe just in case I can get it back to where it was using that, with your advice.

Thank you for the help Tannin. I will go do your fix now and report back.

EDIT: It worked and I am able to use Vortex normally, it does not show anything other than what it should do. Thank you for the help Tannin, I would never have been able to figure this out on my own.

Is there a reason this happened? Was it something I did or a rare bug with Vortex updating to 0.16.1?
