iamlegend999
(because I am in the market for a new graphics card, I wondered whether this one would be able to run all the ENB mods and graphics memory draining textures. The Serious HD retexture mod (http://skyrim.nexusm...ile.php?id=2146) recommends greater than 1 gb of vram for its highest quality texture pack, and I wondered if this 1 gig card would meet that requirement. Any other information you have would be helpful. Also, can this card run the shadows on ultra with barely any frame rate loss? Thanks, Jay.
AlexxEG
It will run texture packs, and shadows fine. But with ENB it will drop to 30-40 fps, not all the time though.
Georgiegril
Shadows use the CPU RAM in Skyrim.

iamlegend999
Shadows use the CPU RAM in Skyrim.Wait... shadows use the cpu ram? Is that why there is a huge drop in fps when shadows are on ultra? And if shadows use ram, I have 8gb and skyrim can only use 4, so Im not sure why the shadows cause such a large fps drop and general slowdown on my current card. Georgiegril
shadows use CPU ram, unless you have altered this by ENB, in which case they are transferred to the VRAM. This helps people with high end graphics cards (fast, lost of memory) but will crash a lower end video card. What are your specs? (Processor and current graphics card)? If you are not using ENB, have you disabled all of your uneccesary background programs (IM, automatic updates, cloud sync, etc.) If you haven't done so, you may want to download a program like CPU-Z, so you can look at your computer processes and speeds. MadWizard25
1GB VRAM is not enough to run lots of hi-res texture mods. At least 1.2GB is recommended, and 1.5GB and higher is much better.
Georgiegril
True, but there are a lot of texture mods like SMIM and WATER that produce lovely results with their lower-res option. I have only 512 MB, and the texture mods are not so much the issue as the lighting mods. Even so, I agree that more VRAM is better, of course. Better to buy as much VRAm as you can afford, cuz, before you know it, 2G will be the basement spec for games...
