Profiles Mismatch

I have tried using profiles in 15-9 and something is strange. I have the three following profiles:

 

1. Default (with 120 mods)

2. Clone of Default 119 mods -1 large mod disabled)

3. Vanilla Clone of Default (1 mod - unofficial patch - all others disabled)

 

I was mid-game with #1 at about level 40 when I wanted to try using profiles. I made two clones of the default as shown above.

 

I started a brand new game with profile 2 and reached about level 6 before quitting for the day. The next day I started again with the profile still set for 2. The FO4 menu did not have an entry for 'continue' - all that was allowed was to start a 'new' game. I changed to 1 and that allowed me to continue that game, but of course it meant using the mod I didn't want at that time. When changed to 3, it would allow me to continue but of course then listed all the mods that weren't installed. That was something 2 never got to. The save game settings are:

1 no/no

2 yes/yes

3 yes/yes

 

I don't understand why I can't continue from profile 2. Any ideas what is happening?

Look at your save directories for each profile. In my case, Fallout 4 was saving the save game to the wrong directory.

Seemed to me like a cached hard link problem; the old directory was being accessed first.

What fixed it in my case was:

!) Find out where your save games actually are. Time stamp helps. It will be in one of your 3 save directories.

2) Go to your profile with the missing saves.

3) On Save games tab, Import the missing saves from whichever profile stole them.

 

After that, both Vortex and Fallout 4 accessed save games in the right location. New saves went to the correct profile.

 

Hope this helps you; not sure the Vorttex staff believes my report on this one.

@UhlanB76. The procedure described by rmm200 should work for you. A while back I had missing save issues for a new profile. I resolved them by using the fix described here by rmm200.

 

However, I remain puzzled as to why the new profile saves initially went to the wrong save game directory. Is that a bug? Or did I use the wrong settings when I set up the new profile? I am using Vortex 0.15.9, and the new profile settings were "yes" and "yes." The new profile was a clone of another profile.

It is a bug. You set up your profiles correctly.

Thanks to all for your responses. That was the problem and the fix for it. There didn't seem to be a group transfer from one profile to the other. Had to step through moving each save separately. But at least I know what to look for next time.
