Is adding your own mods possible?

So i have tried to mod Fallout New Vegas for years now with no success and i was wandering how people actually get there mods to work. I have followed mod lists but I always want some other mod to go with it. It isn't even a complicated mod most of the time like once I added the Open Strip mod and i broke everything even though i followed all available instructions and even checked load order and compatibility but I always break everything. So I was wondering is it possible to actually add the mods you want to Fallout New Vegas or is it impossible at this point? Any advice?

It is possible, and most folks don't have that much difficulty doing it, which makes me wonder why you are having so many problems.

I personally never had a problem with it, but some folks have reported problems modding their game if it is in the default location (under Program Files). Moving your game out from under the Program Files hierarchy gets rid of a lot of permissions-type problems.

You will need to set archive invalidation, which can be done either using a mod manager or through the ArchiveInvalidationInvalidated utility, or possibly by other means (you can google for details). If you don't do this you'll probably end up with big red exclamation points everywhere.

Other than that, about the only thing you have to watch for is that you install everything to the proper place.

What errors are you getting? We need more details than "breaks everything" to give you better advice.

There is a limit of +/- 130 mod files that can be in the data folder before things start to go south. The total number before the game breaks is determined by the computer specs and the type of mod files added.

Also, once you start to get around +/- 100 mod files, you will need to make the game use more than 2GB of RAM.

Just a clarification, Archive Invalidation does not prevent the red square/white exclamation point error. That is the symbol for a missing mesh. Archive Invalidation is a cure for texture problems.
