Bounty Hunters

Everyone have already been attacked by bounty hunters, and want to know:They are random or someone put a price on your head?

And after the death of Alduin, they stop from attacking me. Why this?

Could be just a coincidence with Alduin. I'm guessing?

There's a few types of character's that'll attack you out of nowhere. Aside from the random attackers (where their name is just their race, like when you're attacked by an Orc or Wood Elf or something), there's the brotherhood assassins (until you join or kill the brotherhood) though I think they're random too, despite the letter from Astrid you find on them.

But there seems to be hired killers that are a result of your actions. After doing the Japhet's Folly quest (East Empire Company), you'll be attacked by the odd band of Blood Horkers. I "accidentally" stole some books from that mage who gives the Discerning the Transmundane quest and, after killing who I thought were some random attackers, I found a bounty letter on one of them and the mage had put a hit out on me for my theft. (Which was weird, 'cuz I stole his books after he was dead.) I've also heard that if you steal from Anis (name? - that witch by Riverwood), she'll hire some assassins to get you. If you kill her, I've heard her Hargraven sister hires assassins for revenge.

Someone who knows more about them from the Ck can probably clear it up, but Hired Thugs generally only show up for me around levels 5-20 and I usually never encounter them more than twice. I don't know if they're a one-time go type thing or if they're level based. I know I've read various accounts on UESP of certain figures that tend to send hired thugs after you, almost as if some NPC's are scripted to send them and some are not.

Of course it could just be that I rarely steal, so maybe that's why I don't see them often. The first ones I see are usually from raiding Anise's Cabin as I tend to use it as a phome early in the game (there's safe storage below) until I can buy a house.

In general: If you do bad stuff, you will probably end up with a few hired swords on your ass.

For instance, my assasin/thief character was in Riverwood to steal from everybody, for a few level ups. I then went on my business, no more than 4 houres into the game, and I met a group of thugs that quite rudly intterupted my sneak kill attempt. That said, they kicked my ass.

So, i need to steal thing from houses to have hired thugs attacking me?

And Anis is sister from Hargravens o_O ??? Well, that explain the letter in her cellar

If you followed the stormcloak soldier at the start, you almost always get thugs when you steel the ingots from under the armor table, at the forge, in Riverwood.

Come to think of it, it seems everytime I get a bounty or assassin or thug on my heels is just after I preform a petty crime AND a chicken is near buy. I think the Chickens work for the Thalmor.

That isn't as outlandish as you may think, chickens can report crimes apparantly (they must be stool pidgeons) :D

If the attacker was actually named "bounty hunter" then I believe it's specifically because you have an active bounty in one of the holds... I don't steal much so not had the random thugs, but I got a bounty hunter after a not-so sneaky assassination then run like hell operation in Morthal.
