LawrenceFB
I will say up front that I have not used profiles with Vortex and NMM and only very basically with MO. Some Fomods, like 'Legacy of the Dragonborn Patches SE', look at your installed plugins to decide what patches to install. This means, as I understand it, that the 'installed plugin' is updated. So if I have two profiles with different lists of plugins can I have a 'installed plugin' unique to that profile or do I have to rename it and live with it turning up in all my other profiles. Will the same be true if I just want to use a profile to try a different configuration.
Rattledagger
With FOMOD you won't install all files, but instead only the files corresponding to the choices you made during installation. Meaning, if you add another mod and you need a patch for this, you'll in your case need to re-install 'Legacy of the Dragonborn Patches SE'. Make sure to specify a different directory when re-installing, so you can have a profile-specific installation.

So at this time the user wants a different configuration in different profiles they have to reinstall the original download into each profile renaming for the profile it belongs too. Does this mean that it will appear as an uninstalled mod in all the other profile? Having a lot of disk space on my games drive I which I could just do a deep clone (copy my installed mods into a new directory) an so cut down on the cruft from other profiles which I could modify by mistake. Maybe one day  .
Tannin42
Well, you can install the same mod repeatedly and have it as different "variants", one for each profile. This way the mod shows only up as one line - enabled - and the other variants are hidden behind the dropdown in the versions column.

I will give it a try.

I had no idea that would work. Someday - we need a Wiki on Vortex with Profiles.

I usually only look at that window to check masters and LOOT. I hate the way it cuts off access to the right hand column, I wish I could 'pin' it instead. Next will be how exactly is FNIS handle with profiles, followed by DynDOLOD  . I still have not seen any feedback from the more adventurous member on 'override load order on individual files' which surprises me but with no information on how it works I am leaving it alone for now.
