Performance advices for the ulimate skyrim modding guide

Hey folks,

 

I followed the famous Skyrim modding guides (graphics+gameplay) and installed quite a lot of mods.

It was all fine and I had good performance installing many graphics mods from the guide. I was wondering how far I could push it, so I also installed a lot of gameplay mods. Now that I've finished the guides and installed everything I wanted I'm experiencing heavy lags when moving thru the landscape.

 

I don't know much about Skyrim mods. Maybe you could give me some advice which mods I should uninstall and also if there are any settings I missed out.

 

I'm using latest EMB with the Tetrachromatic preset, performance was fine before I installed all the detail graphic mods (replacing only a few textures) as well as the gameplay mods. I'm also using Loot, Wrye Bash and ASIS.

 

The pc specs are quite ok to run Skyrim I guess, but I'm totally ok with it if I have to uninstall some mods:

- Sapphire Radeon HD 7950 Vapor-X - OC With Boost - 3 Go

- 8 GB RAM
- Quite old AMD processor and mainboard

If you're not already using it try using the SKSE memory patch

 

Start the video at 21:00

 

 

You said your CPU is kind of old, try lowering your resolution

 

iSize H=1080
iSize W=1920

 

This may be too high of a setting for that CPU, with all those mods isntalled

 

Also, you should know ahead of time 2 things

 

1) Last time i used it, Falskaar was bugged, the last 2 quests specifically

2) NEVER remove or delete a mod unless you are starting a new game, removing one SINGLE mod will break every one of your saves, if you have already removed a mod that your saves had in them, then this could very well be the cause of your lag

 

2 other things you should keep in mind

 

A) following someone elses mod list ( guide ) is usually a bad idea as you don't know what type of computer they have

B) remember that skyrim has a 255 plugin cap

 

Following a guide is fine as long as the guide doesn't have you install a bunch of mods you're not familiar with, I have my own guide but there are very FEW mods mentioned in it, it is for beginners to learn HOW to add mods and make a successful load order, I'll link it just in case you want to check it out - https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/2235394-beginners-guide-to-modding/

I really want to prevent lowering the resolution, I'd rather remove all the graphic mods.
I'm not concerned about savegames, it's a fresh Skyrim installation.

 

Also...the plugin list I mentioned in my first mod isn't complete, it doesn't contain all the graphic modifications since they don't have a plugin file. I don't know how to export a full list of all the mods I'm using...

 

Anyways, I'll just try to randomly disable some mods and see how it goes. If someone could tell me which mods to disable that would help me a lot. Maybe I also misconfigured smth in my .ini files.

before you start with your INI files i would double check the ENB, one little mistake with just about any ENB can totally screw a game

The SKSE.ini is NOT the same as SKSE, and does not come with it. You have to set it up manually.

Thegreatfalro is correct ( nice catch also ). the SKSE.ini will go in your data/skse folder

 

If it's not there already just make an empty text document in there and then when you save it, save it as SKSE.ini

 

then open it and add the memory patch lines in the video, WHICH BTW, you would have known this had you watched the video like I suggested, I don't link information unless I think it's relevant or needed :dry:

Replace the Populated series with the Genesis series from the same guys. AFAIK it's more resource friendly.
