k357
So here's the deal, im level 17, but the majority of my points and levels are in sneak, one handed, alchemy, alteration and illusion, now the problem is, im not quite good enough at sneaking to get close enough to gib people with my dagger, i have no other decently leveled offensive skills, i have literally no defense beyond alteration and i cant really fight anything harder than a standard enemy, A draugr is pretty easy, sneak up if he sees me, whack him down. restless ones are a bit harder, might need to try poison them, but the really really tough ones you meet now and again just destroy me, like 10 pots probably a retry and have to go rest up and restock before i return to the dungeon. This is stupid, and my stubbornness refuses to let me turn the difficulty down. What are my options? should i find some easy enemies and level up archery or destruction for some ranged DPS? should i level up some kind of armour? or am i just nid lern playh? So yeah, not complaining that the game is difficult, i enjoy a challenge, just wondering if my character is a pile of *censored* or im just playing wrong. Stenkil
As a "sword and board" warrior, I tend to sneak at long ranges to get into position in order to unleash volleys of arrows at targets before they can close on me and I switch to blocking and slashing, but if you want to be consistently good at getting right up behind opponents, Muffled Movement and Silence from the Sneak tree can help you to no end, and picking up the Muffle effect from items/enchantments can be a huge boon. There is also a certain amount of skill and chance involved, but you can limit the risk by maximizing your potential through perks and items. Perraine
Watch the enemies VERY closely, as all of them "telegraph" their attacks in one way or another, so timing your hits is critical, you can be one hit killed if the enemies power attacks YOU whilst your lining up a power attack yourself, but you can stop their power attack with a well timed "block" and get your own crit hit by timing it properly. Also the various "stagger" effects are really important, you can keep even the toughest of enemies "off balance" by hitting them at just the right moment ... timing is (almost) everything. If going toe to toe, try and maneuver the fight so you don't get hit by a stray arrow whilst power attacking, the game seems to count you as especially vulnerable when you're winding up and even an iron arrow from a longbow can kill you, so use cover to stay safe. Health % regen effects and potions are also handy, A one hit for a High level enemy can do a lot of damage and if you get a second hit to close (like from an arrow or a magic spell) it can be the end of you, so use health/stamina rate potions when you can
Riprock
Going for a perk-driven build is a challenge, for sure. Do-able though. I don;t think your build is 'broken'. I think you need to capitalize on your alchemy skills: poisons, invisibility, frenzy. Consider putting some effort into enchanting
tetradite
Depends how wedded you are to being sneaky - if you want o be sneaky do as the poeple above said (archery is def your friend here), if you don't mind being a bit more "gung-ho" then you could go dual-wielding to maximise the benefit from your one handed skill. The game I'm currently on, the ONLY 'attack' skill I've levelled at all is One-Handed, and I was getting repeatedly owned until I went to dual wielding. oldspice2625
Illusion. Illusion is SO under appreciated and so rediculously powerful. Fear spells double cast to get those nasty baddies off of you so you can use healing spells (you should always use restoration, if not, you are a fool, no one has that many potions on master difficulty). Frenzy is used to make your enemies destroy eachother. with quiet casting, you can literally kill everyone with illusion, even the last person you can keep using powerful calm spells on, then sneaking way, shooting them, shooting them with the calm, repeat. Invisibility can help you get into position or out of a tight spot. Seriously, for stealth characters, illusion is a god send. Conjuration is another great one. Some followers are just stupid with AI and kill themselves, some a great, but you need to go through a lot to get them (Aranea). Conjuration fills in the gap between getting your fave follower and having a follower to tank at all times. Conjurations save your life, even if you just conjure and book it out of there to go sneak and re heal and get back into a tactical position, conjuration is a life saver. Even a flame atronach is good enough at apprentice level, just something to take the aggro off of you. If you want, you can level up sneak kind of dirty by sneak attacking the greybeards to lvl it up quick. THis is if you are uber desperate and need something to keep you alive. There is a video on this on youtube. Bows and arrows are what you need to use until your sneak is high enough. No one, I mean NO ONE can kill high lvl mobs on master with a dagger straight out of Riverwood... aint gonna happen bro. Need to use those "crappy I don't want to use em" skills until you have Silence in the sneak tree.
NewAgeAssassin13
I'm no ninja at skyrim but the main questions would be: would you be willing to buy lessons in one handed, archery, and what ever your armor type is?
