overall frustration; scripts, load order... ctds all that mess

all right ladies and gentlemen,

ive been trying to avoid posting on the forums for the most part, mainly because i really dont know what im talking about. id rather not ask questions that have obvious answers and look like a dummy. i have however been trying to gleam valuable tidbits from everyone elses threads, google and other forums, and apply to my own problems. the result has been total confusion coupled with having to refrain myself from putting my head through my desk. i am not good with computers. let alone stuff like this.

i currently have a plugins list of around 60. dealing mainly with envoirments. man made and natural. also some utility stuff and skyui. my biggest problem w/ vanilla was by far the emptiness and overall yawn factor of cities and villages. so i added a buncha interesting stuff along those lines. natural stuff is mostly textures; plants, mountains, animal fur and behaivor. that sorta stuff, right? soo after painstaking trial and error sessions that have lasted almost 4 months now (i bought this EFFIN computer literally just to mod EFFIN skyrim) i have realized that i need to be very much more careful with my mod selection. as in compatablity wise. with all that in mind, i went back through and tested some more. what ive been left with is a seemingly well rounded, peacefully coexisting list of mods that *seemingly* do not overwrite each other. all was going swimmingly. then the CTDs started yet again. back to step one.

i have been reading a lot about scripts left over from uninstalled mods causing problems. ok, cool. start a new testing charactor. no big deal. i havent played the stupid game for real since i switched from xbox to pc anyway. no love lost. loaded all the foundation mods that i consider must haves. sweet! they all work. no major issues. except now my CTDs arent happening in the areas that my mods affect. theyre randomly everywhere else. wtf wtf wtf. annd on top of all this, these are just my foundation mods. i was ready to start a new set of testing sessions with the other stuff that just sounds fun. but i cannot progress to that point because i am compulsive as all F*** and i will not let go of what i consider to be essential content.

im also weighing in the idea of wyre bash. will this help? ive researched quit a bit and cant seem to even get my toe in the pool. its just over my head.

kind, patient and wise nexus members. somebody take the gun out of my mouth. im almost ready to quit (skyrim. not life dont worry).

im also fully intending on re- adding more realism mods that i consider essential as well ie TRO + cooking expanded, hypothermia, cloaks, WIC, dual combat, open cities (although i know this is not compatable with 7ks whiterun !!booooo!! they both RULE soo hard, ugh that one alone makes me wanna tear my GD hair out!!) tytanis, UFO, scenic carriages etc etc etc. you get the idea.

am i just being too stubborn? am i trying to add too much? i do not wanna play the game with out all this stuff. i just believe if ordered correctly, all these things should cooperate fine with eachother right? what am i doing wrong?

sorry for the novel. im a wind bag. yet another reason i dont post.

advice, suggestions, love letters, tell me to f myself... anything is welcome at this point.

thanx

Just a thought here. Green Water Fix will likely conflict with WATER, and water does appear in random areas all over the map...

Also, you don't mention using BOSS to sort load order.

ok, thanx.

again, reasons i dont like opening my mouth too much. i have assumed for a while that boss was integrated into the nmm for some reason. dont ask me where i got this. im gunna go hunt it down right now. also gunna try dumping green water. thanx

i have been reading a lot about scripts left over from uninstalled mods causing problems. ok, cool. start a new testing charactor. no big deal

Try a completely clean install (uninstall, restart, install etc) of Skyrim. A new character/game is one step to take, a reinstall is a bigger, better step.

Then test the game with NO mods at all. Just to be sure.

Then add them back in, literally one by one if necessary.

(Apologies if you have done this, but it reads like you haven't).

Be warned though, if things carry on the way they have been going, the more mods that you run the greater chance that you might find yourself going through the same process again the next time Skyrim updates to a new patch.

If you cannot bear the possibility of having to do this again, then limit your number of mods a bit more.

well it reads like that because i wasnt very clear about everything i have attempted. i actually have tried a fresh install twice already. first one to no avail, i attempted re-installing to just windows:c instead of program files X86. that didnt go too well. the second time however, great success. had about a good few weeks of casual to serious testing time and things went well. until this set of problems reared their ugly head. i had everything listed on my plugins above + around 30-35 more of all types of different things. it looked like i was actually ready to start a real game. i narrowed my problem down to better villages. un-installed and things went great again. messed with the load order to try to get BV to work (like i said im stubborn), put it beneath winterhold destruction (as they both affect winterhold). smooth sailing. then all the sudden, roaming around the rift hunting to test mounted combat and collect pelts to make bandoliers to see how all that worked... CTD. now its appearing that every time i attempt to go anywhere in the wild, CTD. where as before all of them were happening in the villages affected by BV, dragons bridge, riverwood, winterhold etc

Just to try to eliminate a possibility or two, what are your system specs?

The hi-res textures and creature-adding mods are going to need more RAM. The game will want it's max allotment of 4gb, plus 2 for the OS = 6gb min to avoid ctds.

Skyrim has also always suffered from memory leakage issues. Not releasing large chunks of RAM before allocating more, until it runs out. To see if this is the case with you, try hitting alt/ctrl/del then "cancel" every couple minutes while playing. This will release those orphaned chunks. If this works, at least you know what the problem is, but i have never seen a fix for it.

forgive my ignorance.. im actually saving a few bucks to invest in more ram. but im not sure if its Vram im after or more DDR.

im not sure how to pull up my specs exactly but windows 7 64, 4 gigs DDR, is all i know off the top of my head. if you could give me specifics on how to get specifics id be happy to share

4gb DDR RAM is too low to use hi-res texture replacers. The game will only have about 2gb to work with, after the OS and other background programs.

Try dropping the texture replacers, WATER, and any other graphical enhancements.

Just glancing at your load order again, Crowded Cities and Populated Cities don't sound compatible, and if they are, using them both will require a pretty good PC.

Same with the Whiterun mods.

You have 2 mods that affect weather, pick one.
