I can't "die".

So when my HP reach 0 i fall down, then my character sits up, get blackscreen and then if I have F4SE on I lose some caps and spawn a bit away from where I died. If I don't have F4SE I just stand up with full HP. This happens even if I have no mods active and Run vanilla.

The problem is that when I start a new game with all the mods I die as normal, but after a while this happens and I can't die. Anyone know what is causing this? Or how this can happen even if no mods are installed?

Edit:

Seems to only occur if I start normally and not use the coc command, before entering vault 111 at the start I can die, but after waking up the problem starts.

Found that it is Horizon that causes the bug.

Horizon also does not work well with many of the mods you have on your mod list, unless it has a patch for Horizon you shouldn't be using that mod with Horizon or any other extensive overhaul mod like it.

Ok, so I had this exact same issue, along with the added side effect that stimpacks also healing radiation. It seems to be that your character somehow gets set to essential. Apparently, a lot of people experience this bug when a quest called "Confidence Man" glitches out at a bar fight and sets you as essential, so if that happens to be the case, there is a different process to figure that out here: (https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout/comments/3sm76q/potential_confidence_man_quest_bug_console/ ) but i ran into this by modding. I don't know when or how, but in the process of testing out various mods, this happened to me.

 

Here is how I was able to fix it, I hope it works for anyone else who runs into this issue:

 

1. Download FO4 Balanced Essential Player ( https://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/28975 )

2. Enable it in w/e mod manager you have, Vortex in my case

3. Run the game and confirm its loaded. Basically that nothing has changed since you are already set to essential

4. Follow the mods uninstall instructions (Specifically the item it gives you for uninstalling, as this runs script to remove the essential status from your character as well as running the command for recycling your actor model)

5. Save and confirm you can die

6. Disable plugins and remove mod

7. Reload and enjoy!

There's a couple of things that cause stuff like this. One is godmode

which you can enter or remove yourself from by entering the console by tapping the tilde ~ key and typing in TGM and then tapping your enter key, then the tilde key again. It will tell you if you have entered or exited godmode. If it says you've entered godmode, repeat that again, and it will say that you've exited godmode.

 

If you think that you have been set to essential, which means that you cannot be killed, enter into the console, same as above, click on yourself with your mouse, and then type in SetEssential 1/0

1 is essential yes, 0 is essential no. So it would be SetEssenttial 0 then the enter key, and then the tilde key again.

 

There is also a mod called Cheat Terminal, which gives you a holotape that has settings for turning the player essential or non-essential, if you'd rather go that route.
