Default instal path?

I installed vortex for the first time today and every time I switch to a game I get a "mods can't be deployed error"
Is there a way to globally change the install path form "{USERDATA}\{GAME}\mods" to a different location (such as Z:\NMM\{GAME}\mods),rather than having to do it for every individual game?

Do you have auto-deploy ON ? SETTINGS --- INTERFACE ---- have Deploy Mods when Enabled, Enable Profile Management, Enable Advanced Mode = ON

Missing Base Path ..... click on this link. You can change the installed path but it must be in the same disk where your game is installed.

Auto Deploy is on, could it be getting confused by the fact that C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\ is an NFTS mount of my Z:\ drive?

In that case I would put the mod staging directory on the same Z: drive and tell Vortex to use it indirectly, just as it sees your Steam directory, i.e.

C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\Vortex or something like that.

I understand why you did it that way, but your setup is a bit problematic. Because the whole Z: drive is basically the steamapps subdirectory, you cannot create any directory "outside" of steamapps without also putting it outside of your Z drive.

These days it's easier to use Steam's feature to use alternate locations for the steam library. And the good thing is that Steam will also immediately recognize all games in a path you set. So if you ask Steam to create a new library on Z:\, it will create a directory structure there. Then you move all your games into that structure and you're set. That's much easier and has less issues like your current setup.
