We could agree on a number of thumbs to showcase (6, or 9, or whatever) so everyone does a number of those before him + 1 after. Excluding his own, which is a bit pointless. This way, even if someone forgets/refuses to put up the thumbnails, the chain remains intact using the links of others.

It's a bit more difficult to do than the groups Yagho suggested, but since each one of us is going to do it once (+ one modification when the next image is added) I think it's within our capacities.

Anyway, are we certain that there's a lag and if so that it's because of the thumbnails?

 

Just had a look at this: Definitely not.

 

The 9 Thumbnails I have in the description right now sum up to about 110 KB. The whole page is around 2,5 MB => The thumbnails are 4,4 % of the page.

 

We could just keep on like this. (1 Full size Pic ~ 115 Thumbnails....)

 

 

 

 

PS: Curiously, most thumbnails are actually even only about 3KB, while a few are 30 KB - no idea why.

I've noticed that too. Some are .jpg, others are .png.

Yet again another idea: We all do the previous + next Picture link as you suggested and the additionally have a link to a "See the whole journey"- Picture. If you click on this you get to a pic that lists them all in the description. That would become one big page, but someone who wants to see the whole journey would surely not mind to wait a few secs longer.

That is a great idea. So here's the plan for now: we'll have the people who are on often enough, like myself, keep all the thumbnails - like we're pretty much doing now- and then the casual contributors don't have to worry about linking to new images. They can just link to my pic or some of the other frequent posters' pics. In other words we will have a suggested procedure but it won't matter if there are a few loose links in the chain.

That works too - I was thinking we could have something like an official "Cover-page" that links all. Something similar to this: :D

This new idea sounds great and all, but to address Yagho's statement about people forgetting or not logging back in, we could always post the links in the comments below the shot.

 

Also to make sure I'm on the right page... this is what we are talking about right?

If anything I was thinking about starting an account where, after the original photographer uploads their own shot, we could reupload it a bit later on the new account (With original uploaders permission of course) and have everything neatly organized in order and no links would be forgotten. Just an idea.
