WTF? Games gone haywire after reordering my mods through LOOT.

Hi Guys.

Okay I've encountered the weirdest problem i've ever seen in this game.

I've been playing one of my characters for weeks now. With no problems. On a heavily modified game. I decided to create a bash patch through Wrye Bash. Before that, I reordered through LOOT. Created the Bash Patch with no problems.

However...

When I load up the last few saves, the game goes crazy: -

  • ALL the mods are registering with MCM. As if they've just been installed.
  • I'm now naked, as the armor I was wearing was from a mod.
  • I'm standing still, while continuously shooting out frost magic. Seemingly from my head. Even though this character has never used any frost magic.
  • Weirdest of all, I seem to have been transported to the Sleeping Giant in Riverwood. Even though I was at the forgotten city. I'm playing The Forgotten City mod.
  • The game is lagging so much, It's impossible to move.

Whats even stranger is that I've got two other characters on the go, with different play through's. These two other characters seem to be completely unaffected. Even though the mods are identical.

The most load order is as follows: -

1 *DLC: HearthFires
2 *DLC: Dragonborn
3 *DLC: Dawnguard

Of all the posts I've read from here, steam, reddit, or any other forums, I've never seen anyone who's come across this issue.

Any idea whats causing this issue? Out of the three character play throughs I'm playing, the bugged one is my favorite. I don't want to start him all over again.

Thanks in advance.

You've got 259 mods in your list.

Bethesda games can only handle 255 tops

Plus, I don't see a Bashed Patch anywhere in your load order.

Also, Why run LOOT on a game you've been running for weeks now?
You changed the load order, so whatever your load order used to be, WORKED, now that it's changed something is overwriting your armor etc.

You shouldn't just run LOOT whenever you feel like
LOOT should be run before you even start a game, now in the middle of a weeks old game.

Also, WHY in the World do you have JK's Skyrim (which is an ALL IN ONE mod) installed along with all of JK's Individual Mods?
That's the whole point of JK's SKyrim is to merge all of the JK's winterhold, riftern, whiterun, etc

This is what JK's Skyrim covers...you can uninstall ALL of those other JK mods. and leave JK's Skyrim.

The overhaul covers Skyrim's 5 major cities; Whiterun (and Whiterun exterior), Windhelm, Solitude, Markarth and Riften.
The towns of Riverwood, Dragonbridge, Ivarstead and Rorikstead.
The small open villages of Falkreath, Morthal, Dawnstar, Winterhold and Skaal Village.
Sky Haven Temple Exterior unlocked during the Main Quest.

The OP doesn't have 259 mods. That list is a list of mods not their ESP list...which makes it near impossible to help as LOOT only affects ESP order.

So they may have all the JK mods and only have one activated for all we know.

The DLC masters are in the wrong order though

The DLC masters are in the wrong order though

Yep, I notice that too.

This is the correct order.

1 *DLC: Dawnguard
2 *DLC: HearthFires
3 *DLC: Dragonborn
@nagrom2608: I strongly suggest that you follow HadToRegister's advice then click on the Mod Checker button in Wrye Bash just to see if your loadorder is okay. Should there be a comflict then solve it and sort your loadorder in LOOT, before you re-creating the bashed patch.

Thanks for the replies. NOT condescending in the slightest....

Anyway.

As for the missing bash patch? I initially thought that it was the creating of the patch that casued the problem. According to the tutorial I watched, the guy in the video said you're able to remove the bash patch just by deleting it in the data folder.

As for running LOOT anytime? How come pretty much all modding tutorials, and mod reviews recommend running loot when installing new mods. EVEN mid game? Surely once you start a game, there maybe new mods you want to try. This, according to the mod creators, should be followed by running loot. So by your logic, once you start a game, you can NEVER install any new mods again....

Also none of your comments/suggestions explain why these issues have only affected ONE of my characters, and not the OTHER TWO....... Surely if they're reading EXACTLY the same mods, in EXACTLY the same load order, then they would all be borked???

Now to JK Skyrim. I'm sure I read somewhere that another mod I had installed required the stand alone versions. I did find this odd. Seeing as I had the all in one. However this would explain some of the duplicate items I've found. Such as two overlaying gates in Riften's cemetery.

Going back to the game.

Am I right in thinking that creating a Bash Patch just switches off certain plug-ins that are duplicated. Through various mods. Thus making your plaug-in list smaller? If I am correct, am I able to just switch on these plug-ins again through Mod Organiser.

Another weird issue is that I've just swicthed on Mod Organiser, only to find the most load order TOTALLY changed. To alphabetical order, and EVERY mod switched off........

Another baffling issue is I now have missing masters. I know this is due to the creation of the bash patch. However if I go into the optional ESP tab in MO, these eps's are in the available box at the bottom. This should mean they're switched on. However, they're still showing as missing.

You're right, my post wasn't condescending in the slightest.

I tried to help, but you think it's condescending.

There's no other way to explain it where you won't take it personally.

Now, I don't know what modding tutorials you're watching, but when they talk about installing new mods and running LOOT, they're talking about doing it when INSTALLING NEW MODS WITH A NEW GAME.

If you install new mods Mid game, you're going to (i said GOING TO, not MIGHT) leave any mods in your load order with orphaned scripts, because you've changed the index of the scripts, so you're eventually going to end up with a buggy and crashy game, because the orphaned scripts are baked into your save, and are bloating the save, because they can't find the mod they used to run from because the index number has changed.

Say Mod C starts at mod index 1F, now all of the scripts start with 1F, and look to MOD C at 1F, and bake it into your save.

Now, MID-GAME, you decide to install a few mods

Now your MOD C has an index of 24, however, the scripts baked into your save, still start with 1F and keep trying to run, but they can't find the mod at 1F anymore, so those keep trying to run, and bloat your save, meanwhile the SAME scripts from MOD C, are now running with a 24 prefix, so now you have TWICE the amount of Scripts running from the same mod, but only the 24-prefix scripts can run successfully, while the orphaned 1F scripts screw up your game save.

So, have fun with that.

I've never seen a video where someone told me to delete the Bashed Patch

The Bashed Patch merges your leveled lists and a few other things, and depending on the mod "Ghosts the mod" so it doesn't take up space in the load order because it gets included in the Bashed Patch.

Hi

Loot has a folder at AppData\Local\Loot. In it you will find a backup copy of your load list.

NMM also makes a backup of your load order on closing. You can find it in the AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition.

The plugins.txt file in AppData\Local\Skyrim Special Edition is the file the games uses the recognise your mods and their order. Backup this file before making changes.

How do I use these backups to restore my old, stable load order ?

4.50 min point.

Anyway I understand your explanation as far as load orders being baked into the save. However this does't explain why this issue ONLY effected one of my three character builds. Seeing as they all use the same mods, and load order...
