Dyflinn432
So i have been playing games on computer for a while, on really low graphics and never anything made after 2009 which is really annoying because i cant play the newest Total wars or skyrim. So now that my exams are over i said that i would look into a gaming PC ... im a complete noob when it comes to hardware so building my own aint really an option. So far the only system i have found to be in my price range is the Alienware x51, i found one on the website Newegg for 999 dollars, now im form Ireland so that's a lot cheaper in euro (about 800 euro) but im worried that it might be too weak to run skyrim, total war's, men of war etc link: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16883155401 So please just give your thoughts ... is it a good PC to start out on? is it not powerful enough for the games i play etc Thanks
Ihoe
This is from the Newegg.com shipping page. Does Newegg.com ship internationally? Newegg.com does not currently ship internationally; we only deliver to locations within the United States and to Puerto Rico. However, I would suggest using a parcel forwarder, if you live in the Republic of Ireland:I have worked with a lot of these forwarding companies in the past. There are a lot of options, but it depends on what you are looking for in a service. Here are some of the options: http://www.BongoUS.com - Great technology, great customer service, great prices. This is who I use now. ( I know they have good rates and transit times to Europe) http://www.myus.com - largest of the group, great prices, but some hidden fees, poor response time.http://www.myus.com/en/top-usa-stores/newegg/ http://www.usa2me - OK technology, good customer service, high prices with additional fuel added when you ship http://www.usglobalmail.com - older technology/website, good customer service, high prices I suggest checking them all out as they are all reputable and you do not need to worry about not getting your goods. Make your own decision on which company will work the best.Source(s):www.newegg.comhttp://www.bongous.comhttp://www.tomshardware.com/forum/18998-10-newegg-shipping-internationally If you live in Northern Ireland (part of Britain, but i don't think since you measured the price in euros  ), As an alternative to newegg, This site is overall one of the cheapest in the UK and delivers to Ireland. http://www.scan.co.uk/information/delivery.aspxhttp://3xs.scan.co.uk/Category.asp?SystemMasterCategoryID=20 If you can buy from newegg by other means, here's my 2 cents: This one is better IMO, the only thing that might not catch up in this build is the processor, although AMD processors are more future proof. consider This if you prefer intel instead. Here are some others which are not as valuable but worth considering:This, This (!) (good CPU + GPU + cheap) and This (Not the best, but cheap) are also good offers. the first one being superior in the graphics department compared to your own selection, but not in the CPU section. Thanks about a half hour after i posted this i found out about their shipping policy, i do have a brother living in the US and i thought of having him purchase it for me and deliver it to me but that would probably add to the costi thought i got lucky finding that one seeing as it costs over 1000 euro here on the dell website, thanks for the links btw
JimboUK
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/ These deliver to Ireland and they'll custom build one for you if you give them a call or use their online thing, I've had a lot of stuff from them without issue. Don't bother with Alienware, they really are overpriced.
hyralux
(Alienware user myself) The only reason I would avoid an Alienware x51 is the fact the case is so small, which I understand is the big appeal to it, but If you wanted to make any upgrades in the later years that could cause quite a ruckus with such a small area to work with. I know Newegg had some already built computers that weren't that expensive I was looking at for my little brother. I haven't really checked out their hardware, but that sounds like a good starting point. Ah just saw the international shipping policy...well that blows, but yeah its still an option if your bro could send it. tetradite
Just remember if you're considering shipping from the USA or anywhere outside the EU for that matter, into any EU country: Even if it is sent private individual to private individual, and (mis)declared to customs as a gift rather than a purchase, you may well get stung with a bill for import duty and VAT (which is usually chargeable on the value of the goods plus cost of shipping). A lot of times you won't, you may even know people that haven't, it's luck of the draw tbh. BUT if you get unlucky and get charged you'll be stuck with a bill from Customs (and potentially an extra charge from the carrier because they had to "present" it to Customs too) before you can get your parcel. Most retailers won't allow you to cancel/refund an order if this happens either. Unless things have changed (I used to work Customs, boo-hiss I know) computers will be zero-rated for import duty, but whatever the price you can get it for in the USA, you can hypothetically add on whatever % Irish VAT is plus another (say) 10-15 euro for the carrier fee if it gets charged by Customs. EDIT: None of this applies to shipments between EU countries, so ordering from the UK is fine. Edited June 28, 2012 by tetradite
Erik005
Th alienware desktop is not very good and certainly not a basis for a future rig. You can't fit a normal graphics card in it and it has no expandability.
LaurelHerrera
Get a console, for that money the PC will be really bad. Spend more money and get a PC.http://www.parcelbound.com/ Edited May 8, 2013 by LaurelHerrera
Rennn
For $1000 you could get a much better PC than that. My PC cost about $1000 by the time all my upgrades are factored in, and it's worlds ahead of that Alienware model. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Oh and I'm looking to spend tops $2g's. Thanks again.
