can't use data file option in laucher

okay so my problem is that the data file option is greyed out and ive been using the nexus mod manager to organize and install mods, but i can't even access the files to begin with. Ive been all over the web, ive changed the skyrim pref.ini file with all the different suggestions and now i just changed it back to what it was originally. this is actually a downloaded version i got from my friend and he has the same stuff i do and he has no problem at all his mods work fine. I'm using an Alienware m17-r1 with windows 7. ii can't figure out what to do

Hey man,. I'm having the same problem as you! I know for a fact its a window 7 problem. As I had this on my other computer but ended up fixing it, now though I can't remember how. AND I'm having exactly the same issue!!!!

Its something to do with the folder being read-only I think, and I cannot change it no matter what I try.. Windows 7 is annoying sometimes.. My houses mods wont show up!! And I can't play without a sweet place. :)

Set preferences to run as administrator. (right click on nmm icon)

ive followed the other thread and im still not getting anything

I set both skyrim .exe's to run as administrator and nexus mod manager.exe to run as administrator than uninstalled and reinstalled all mods, and played and no houses are still in game.. I dont know the next step.

Forgive me, you have 2 skyrim.exes? (Maybe I'm misunderstanding) Are you playing a steam version?

I don't want to stir some controversy here but grey boxes in the launcher menu indicates a pirated version of the game, as I've been awitness to other people being banned for this exact reasoning.

Please take a look at Bben's blog post...check to make sure your .ini files are the same.

(Though Yafi is right, if your game is not legit, none of this will help you, you need to buy the game...not to accuse you of anything, just saying)
