In regards to the "evil" ending, yeah pretty depressing. You have to assume they found Harold and ended him as will, killing the spread of green. In all honestly I see it as you described. It'd be like Mordor from Peter Jackson's film except there's nothing but Enclave troops marching around cataloging the dead "mutants" (read: dead humans) .

You might even mix in that clip from the

but with a grimmer soundtrack and when it pans out you'd have a soldier standing in Enclave Power Armour vs BoS Armour maybe with a pile of bodies burning nearby  Scary.

Yep, it's a great "over pints" discussion indeed, I'll have a Kilkenny thanks

Heh... I hadn't thought of the wig and naughty nightware, [chuckles] I can just just picture the scene - Lyons & Casdin glowering at each other and between then, wearing Buttons wig and dressed in fabulous pajamas is none other than the LW  Perhaps adding to the mix a cocktail of whisky and Mentats just to spice things up as well!

..........

I too sincerely hope that the good folks at Bethesda browse these forums and above all, take note not only of the outstanding work being done by the modders, but also follow some of the in depth discussions that spring up from time to time.

I only want Fallout to get better and I firmly believe that more attention needs to be paid to the writing and over all continuity of the plot. I most definitely want to see less reliance on paper tiger antagonists and see more instances of individuals like Ashur, complex nuanced characters who's agenda is not black or white rather..... 50 shades of grey? I most assuredly don't want story/plot lines have holes big enough that you could sail an aircraft carrier through or be so absurd and asinine that they'd have more place in a C-Grade sitcom.

Hey, Kilkenny -- that's one of my favourite beers

Nice scenario you have there with the three in what is likely a heated discussion.. The mentats and whisky probably taste a lot like a mint julep :P

Hopefully there's enough for all of them to lubricate the discussion and put everyone in better spirits ;)

Yea, the reason I asked about the other forums is because of late I've been visiting there as well to leave my two cents on what Fallout 4 should include (namely as influenced by Fallout 3 + FWE as much as possible, and on the East Coast as opposed to west).

I do know what you mean about not enough time for everywhere. Somedays I've got time for a post so long it seems I've gone insane... and other days time enough for one reply.

We can only hope the DEVS are reading these as well and plan on making the next Fallout as you've described above so well

.... my concept and then RAGE came out and I died a little inside as it was my idea basically, in a different setting but never the less, making the concept I had envisaged appear like it's a rip off of RAGE. Now there's no way to for me to prove it as I never published my idea on the net, it was just something I'd written down in a word document which I no longer have.

I have to admit I was going to say, "definitely has a RAGE ring to the story." It is an awful shame that it was never published prior to Rage's release...

I thought it'd be a great place to start as we've only seen the aftermath of the war but never what America was like before the bombs fell.

It'd probably be an enjoyable game... if properly executed. I think of "Deus Ex Human Revolution" (the original DE is on my "Best Games of All Time" list) and how I wanted to like it more... but lost interest in after reaching Shang Hai. I guess the expectations were just too high because in its own right, it was done well.

But back to the main topic..

I read the story 'teaser' and... wow! Are you a writer? If not, welll... I'd hope you'd start. Great story and descriptions all around complimented nicely by lore-appropriate music. Brilliant! :woot:

I'll have to be honest though: I absolutely hate Mothership Zeta and Old World Blues more then any DLC I have witnessed or played. The reason is that, for me, they break the immersiveness I feel when playing Fallout and make me feel like I'm playing some cheap shooter and not an epic RPG with a deep, immersive story.

So my point is, anything even remotely suggesting a Fallout story taking place in space or having any kind of relation to alien tech... well it almost makes me want to stop playing.

I really hate it that much when in a Fallout setting. That's why... welll hope you don't get too angry at this... but that's why I was actually glad Van Buren was cancelled. I know it sounds like blasphemy maybe, but it's honesty. That being said, I love the original Fallout and Fallout 3 equally.

Now on alien/outer-space plots, if it was the "X-Files" or "Fringe" game I'd like it... maybe love it. But not in Fallout. Just one-guy-on-the-planet's opinion though so please take it witha grain of salt and not personally ;) I hate to lose friends over differences of opinion.

But again, I absolutely loved the deep story with important side storylines, plot twists, and surprises--those are entertainment media that become my favourites, like Fallout 3, the first Matrix movie, original Star Wars' The Empire Strikes Back (who would've known he was his father??!), even the Harry Potter series (which borrows a lot from another of my favorites: The Lord Of The Rings).

I have to say I sincerely hope you find a publishing/networking agent if you haven't already. You've got talent that makes consumers like me want to keep reading, playing, and buying.

Please keep writing!

BTW I'm also a fan of Lovecraft. First read it ...ohhh 18 years ago. I bought every book I could :P

こんにちは David :)

No I'm not in the least bit perturbed by your lack of enthusiasm in relation to the alien aspect in Fallout 3 as introduced by Mothership Zeta. I didn't mind it, and there were quite a few aspects of it which I quite enjoyed, such as the various logs of the abducted humans you can find on the ship. Some of them were brilliant little vignettes IMO. Personally I have no real issue with there being aliens in the FO universe, it was one of the random encounters you had in FO1. Now with MSZ it goes far beyond a simple random encounter like finding Firelance but IMO it does fit in which all the 1950's sci-fi alien space themed movies and pop culture. From Sci-fi classics like Fobidden Planet, to cheese fests like Plan 9 From Outer Space, they all dove tail quite nicely into the FO milieu. BTW, OWB was my favorite DLC for NV  I am a fan of cheesy 1950's schlock sci-fi and this was as cheesy as it comes  Least favourite was Honest Hearts, beautiful scenary but very dull story, Most challenging was Dead Money and Lonesome Road felt like I was on-a-rail FPS which annoyed me considerably. But I digress...

I'm extremely pleased you like the introduction of my concept. I have always been a fan of The InkSpots, they were my grandfathers favourite group when he was a young man back in the 1940's and 50's so I grew up listening to them and it brought a smile to his face when I told him they had been used in a CRPG back in 1997. Making Believe is so perfect for the introduction as it's essentially a love letter from The Recruit [the name for the protagonist] to their loved one and of course absolutely nails it because you know you're starting a Fallout game. I very much wanted to have a timed period as a prologue where you'd get to see pre war America, go through the tutorial program and get a few levels from quests etc before the main game begins. I do fully realise that RAGE has stolen my thunder but I'm starting to think that the concept still has merit [The Recruit being in suspended animation for 200 or so years] and firmly believe it still fits into the Fallout world. I doubt Bethesda would take it on as a project as they now are focusing on FO4 which will no doubt be set around The Commonwealth [or so the rumours say?]. But Seeing how there are modders out there creating fan based game mods such as Project Brazil, a totally new game based in the Fallout world, perhaps my idea could be taken up and made after all?

Now in relation to my concept for a potential Fallout game, the off-world/outer space thing occurs in the 3rd act of the game. For the 1st 2 acts The Recruit is on Earth at first trying to just survive and then piece together what happened to their loved one. It's a very open planned quest line but i had specifically planned that you couldn't race through it, ie; leap ahead etc until certain parameters had been met like you can in FO3. These quest check points are not to be done in any order mind you but enough must be done in order to progress the plot to its next level and so on. Now I don't intend to try to persuade you or change your mind, if you aren't keen on the whole alien aspect then that's your choice. However the designers have it in the FO universe, therefore its seen as canon and so I'm just using what they've established as their ground rules for their universe.

Aliens would play a part in the game but would not be the main focus of the 3rd act, rather just one of the obstacles to deal with and perhaps The Recruit would learn more as to why aliens have been coming to earth for centuries.

And yes, I'm a writer but not yet published. Still working on a manuscript and a few other ideas. One day though... maybe if I get a deal... ? Here's hoping anyway

So I have the prologue sorted out, most of the 1st act drafted, an good frame work for acts 2 & 3 and of course the denouement and epilogue firmly in place. There is one thing though, a major twist which will floor players at the end which is TOTALLY dependent on choices they make in the game. Often they'll be absolutely unaware which choices will affect the ending as well which will lead to massive replayability and hopefully avoid spoilers for the ends for some time.

And of course there'd be a far greater amount of Lovecraftian mythos included in the new game as well. WWIII wasn't triggered to fight the Chinese you know.... mwhahahaha.... How little they know...

Yes I will keep on writing and I've been working recently on a uniquely Australian themed super villain and his strange and odd career. More on that another day. I haven't got an agent yet but I do know of people in the business so once I have something I'm happy to present, they'll get a copy.

Glad my opinion isn't offensive :)

Personally I have no real issue with there being aliens in the FO universe, it was one of the random encounters you had in FO1. But I digress...

I enjoyed a lot of the sci-fi classics and have some. Them! and The Creature from The Black Lagoon to name a few. Cheesy but fun films

But except for the alien weapons, MSZ doesn't feel like those at all. It more like X-Files.

Anyhow I think aside from the (IMO) out-of-place theme, the hugest issue I have with MSZ is that it's so overpowered. Unfairly so:

Let's say a Level One LW somehow wanders stright to the crashed ship and completes MSZ.. you've removed all challenge from the game: if you're addicted to anything, have radiation poisoning, injured ... simply beam up and spend one second in one of the healing fields and you're good as new. Not cool  Totally breaks the challenge, and thus immersiveness.

I know what you mean. I played some of the GNR soundtrack at my parent's home when I visited them in the US and it was a nice surprise to them that their son actually likes some 'good music' :)

Making Believe is so perfect for the introduction as it's essentially a love letter from The Recruit [the name for the protagonist] to their loved one and of course absolutely nails it because you know you're starting a Fallout game. I'd like to see that mod. Or full fledged game! I haven't tried any major mods other than FWE... I imagine I will someday after I finish this playthrough (probably my last) and have finished all the quests and into the 'open ended exploring.'

I do hope you can get networked in with Bethesda. Being a fan of the series, in addition to incredible content I’m fully confident you’ll be the ‘plot holes police.’

I imagine at that point, if Fallout 4 isn't out yet, I'll try some mods that piqued my interest... AAT phone company and Alton IL to name a few.

I know that despite my misgivings, it’s canon now :geek:

I think I know why the aliens are here… we are descended from them but it was unintentional ;)

And yes, I'm a writer but not yet published. Still working on a manuscript and a few other ideas. One day though... maybe if I get a deal... ? Here's hoping anyway

As I suspected! You write so eloquently I’d have been seriously surprised if it had been otherwise.

So I have the prologue sorted out, most of the 1st act drafted, an good frame work for acts 2 & 3 and of course the denouement and epilogue firmly in place. There is one thing though, a major twist which will floor players at the end which is TOTALLY dependent on choices they make in the game. The more I read the more I want to play this. Despite even the presence of aliens…

Now I’m thinking… how does one get a foothold into the game-making market? And for Fallout it’d have to be in the US, right?

Well… I guess one could always get lucky one Facebook, Google+, or perhaps LinkedIn.

If I ever happen to bump into anyone in the business I’ll point them your way. You never know who you’ll bump into drinking at bars in Tokyo…

Whats this RAGE mod your talking about? I'm also working on a mod whereby you have to revive a Battalion of pre war U.S military personnel from cryostasis.
