  1. The whole Gen 3 Synth/Android naming issuing is just another example of Bethesda not giving a cr@p about continuity. Its one of the really obvious flaws in the design of this game in that they had pre-existing "lore" ie; Harkness from FO3 was an "Android" but we're given enough information to imply that he is actually a Gen 3 Synth who used to be a Courser. Yet come FO4 the term Android is nare to be seen and instead Bethesda have renamed artificial beings as Synths. ffs... This really annoys me on a personal level because its just bloody lazy story crafting and while I very much have enjoyed playing FO4 i just wish they'd actually bothered to pay attention to what has gone before and maintained and built upon existing continuity.
  2. Well from my PoV - I took the castle and it didn't effect any of the other quest lines at all. GL
  3. Dont ditch the rings. With Armoursmith Extended [ http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/2228/? ] you can enhance your wedding ring with a legendary trait! Well worth it
  4. Oh hell yeah! And that reminds me of my favourite quote from the Watchmen which can very easily be paraphrased and applied to the game: Dog carcass in alley this morning, Power Armour tread on burst stomach. The wasteland is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the settlers and raiders will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper.. "No.”
  5. I agree that FO4 has broken more "lore" than really necessary and as such it really is very disappointing [well for me at least as a long term fan of the series] but more so, it shows that the development staff really only paid lip service to the history of the Fallout series. Bethesda, while releasing a very much anticipated Fallout game, have made a bit of a mess of it in many ways. Very simple examples are things like the design of the standard assault rifle - in FO3 we see a gun that looks like this: http://assets.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/users/5164680/pics/full/3493090.jpg Yet in FO4 the assault rifle now looks like this: http://assets.enjin.com.s3.amazonaws.com/users/5164680/pics/full/3493091.jpg This is just jaw droppingly ridiculous and I'm astounded that it was allowed to happen at all as it totally smashes any sense of continuity from the previous instalments. There are many other examples but I thought this would be the easiest to demonstrate. In regards to pre war preppers - there are a few examples you can find across the Commonwealth
  6. Todays games appear to be more about bolstering the players ego rather than actually conveying a logical and well crafted narrative which if done right, would at times take the player down a peg or three. I absolutely agree that there is something very wrong with the concept of some complete stranger strolling in and though they turn out to be quite competent, they end up rocketing meteorically up the ranks in a way that makes the whole concept of time served plus hard work irrelevant for anyone else in that organisation. In fact the BoS should have more NPC's grumbling about how quickly the SS gets promoted or be out right blunt about their dissatisfaction at the whole situation. And finally I agree that this game feels more like MA 15+ than R rated. I supposed they wanted to have the broadest audience and teens make up a large part of that sales demographic.
  7. IMHO quite possibly the best Sci-Fi film in a very long time. "I highly recommend you watch the short Uncanny Valley. Like excellent short science fiction, with “studio” production values. #GarageKubrick — William Gibson (@GreatDismal) December 15, 2015" High praise from one of the worlds best Sci-Fi authors indeed https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gR3lXEH80Nw
  8. My guess is that the Synths can reproduce - after all they are almost totally human biologically speaking. I suspect only a small part of them is artificial, something in their brain that allows them to be controlled by simple command prompts. In regards to the Synths all essentially coming from 1 DNA source, well that isn't a problem really. Just look at the examples of the descendants of Ghengis Khan etc. According to this artcile http://genetics.thetech.org/original_news/news11 roughly 1 in 200 males of Asian/European stock are his living heirs. So being the sole source of isn't a problem as if we go back even further, modern human all apparently come from 1 female - EVE http://www.mhrc.net/mitochondrialEve.htm Just as a side note, I've really enjoyed reading this discussion and especially the input from both Anthansa and Moraelin. Its really great and refreshing to see a very intense debate on a quite difficult topic be done so well. http://static.comicvine.com/uploads/scale_super/7/79345/3047511-clap.jpg
  9. The design of the Institute, well for me at least, was quite well done. They are the acme of science without any moral compass, research for knowledge's sake but not for the "good" of humanity. In a way the actual Institute itself [its physical space/setting] is an inversion of the cliché of the Ivory Tower. They have burrowed underground and built their inverted tower and have perverted science and discovery to the extent that they now stand in the despised company of the Nazi death camp scientists. Shaun was taken by the Institute as a source of "pure" DNA for their gen 3 synth project. After his DNA was harvested they raised him as one of their own which is curious because normally once they have what they need they tend to move on and tie up the loose ends. But anyhow... Shaun for his entire life drinks the cool aid down there and ends up climbing the pyramid and gets the top job with the complete knowledge of how he happened to be there. And he is fine with that. For me this proves he is a pure sociopath - utterly devoid of any true feelings. He toys with the SS, releasing his one remaining parent from Vault 111 just to see what happens to them. At no time does he bother to help them at all. Instead he only becomes interested once the SS kills Kellogg and makes their way into the Institute. Shaun/Father now tries to dazzle the SS with the wonders of the Institute and manipulate them into becoming the latest catspaw of the place. My regret now, as a player, is that I wasn't as vengeful as i could have been in my parting conversation with Shaun as he lay dying on the med bed when we were tearing up the place. With further retrospection both he and the Institute all deserved to be gut shot so that their deaths are lingering and painful rather than the rather painless death by nuclear fire. I personally find the Institute horrific - their history is awash with blood and what makes it worse is that they earnestly believe that what they've done is totally justifiable, all for the greater good they say. Utter rubbish but at least there are a few in the Institute that see this. Its obvious that when the CIT survivors sheltered down in the basement there were no history academics with them as they would have quickly pointed out the dark parallels that the Institute was taking. I also suspect that most of the survivors must have had a lot of high functioning asperger science based academics among their number - and not the funny ones like Sheldon from the Big Bang which would explain the total lack of empathy with the surface suvivors and their very quick retreat from any attempt to help once it didn't go well the first time. The Institute are as evil as Vault Tech and the Enclave, maybe more so... it's hard to tell but at least they're all dead now. I still prefer not picking either the Railroad or BoS for my ending, rather leaving both factions at peace and the BoS gradually pacifying the Commonwealth through death from above. I do find it a little amusing that many among the BoS are pretty miffed at not being the ones to take down the Institute but Proctor Quinlan notes that by using the Minutemen to take down the Institute you've saved the lives of many of the BoS which in his mind is good plus the Institute and all its tainted research is gone forever. I'm going to be really curious to see how this ending is handled by DLC's.
  10. Sort of a "forced" reload - using a pimped up MIRV Fatman for the first time.... and not really paying attention too much as to how close the mini nukes were going to impact.... lets just say my first shot with it was the last one. :ermm:

  12. Best debate so far and now this: http://www.geekosystem.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/10/Debate-2012meme.jpg
  13. @ Athansa & Moraelin http://troll.me/images/good-guy-tyson/fascinating-really-fascinating.jpg
  14. @ Moraelin - I suppose it just irks me that I now have to go and remove all the pieces from the frame from the settler then wait 24+ hours for them to exit the frame. Maybe I'm just being too selfish? After all, I built them a new home, gave them all better weapons and gear, provided electricity, water and food... and THEY JUST KEEP ON TAKING!!!! The lack of boundaries is distressing
  15. Power armour should be virtually immune to small arms fire and pretty dam robust versus energy weapons and high explosives. I'm really not that thrilled with the rate in which it can be destroyed and I find destroyed sections suddenly appearing in my inventory pretty silly and immersion breaking. I don't mind it suffering cumulative damage and eventually becoming inoperable but they way the system is atm really needs a rethink.
