XxNightAngelusxX
Sorry, but I don't know where else to turn. I desperately need help. My New Vegas refuses to work at all.I've cleaned out all the mods, reinstalled twice, copy & pasted my backup files, verified the game cache a million times [...]. The steam version crashed either immediately on the launcher or instantly after I try to start a new game. I got the DX9 drivers for NV and DX12 drivers for Fallout 4, and I updated the NVIDIA drivers a month or so ago. I just now rolled back the drivers and it didn't help.I simply cannot comprehend what the problem could be. I installed the 7.5.0 version of the NVAC mod as well, but it didn't help either. I have been dodging a WIN10 update for months because I knew it would break my games and apps all over again, and that's exactly what happened. The update was meant for sometime in April 2018 I checked my system settings and now, somehow, it says the device is up-to-date. Which means it snuck an update onto my device and broke something, yet again. My computer is an Acer laptop with 8 GB RAM and 1000 GB hard drive space. It used to run perfectly before Win10 invaded it. Please help me with this. I've tried every fix under the sun and nothing works. My device simply isn't capable of running any version of Fallout New Vegas anymore. - post edited by staff for the reasons outlined in your warning. HeyYou
Uninstall the game thru 'programs and features'. Manually nuke the install directory, the directory in "My Games", and the directory in App Data. (will have to enable 'show hidden files/folders' for that one.) Empty your recycle bin, reboot. Now, install the game. JUST the game. (any dlc you also own is fine) NO MODS. NONE. ZERO. See if the game will now run. Something else to consider: If you can, install the game someplace other than the Program Files folder.... That's a protected folder, and Windows gets upset when you play in there. Jannifer
I have noticed that the people who report problems with Win10 are usually the ones who have upgraded from Win 8.2. I did a clean install of Win10 on a new rig, and I haven't had any problems. So, I don't think that the update is your issue. It's always best to keep your OS up to date, since it's at the core of your computer's performance. There are two more things you can try specifically with Win10. First, right click on the FNV icon and choose Properties. Go to Compatibility and run the compatibility troubleshooter. It might be that you simply need to run the game with a compatibility setting. The other thing you can do is go to the Shortcut tab in Properties and click the Advanced button. Check the box which allows you to Run as Administrator. You'll have to confirm that you want to allow the program to make changes to your computer each time you start it, but it's a small price to pay for getting the thing to run. Personally, I think that installing outside of the Programs(x86) folder is a last resort. :)
