I'm at a loss (frequent CTD)

As the title says, I'm at a complete loss for causes. The game CTDs constantly. On startup, trying to load the file, and if I move through the world too quickly (IE repetitive whirlwind sprint or a flight mod). I often have to start the game about 3 times before the load sticks and I can play and sometimes it just crashes.

It's the exact same setup I used last time but on a newer and better computer. I'm using exactly the same mods on a fresh install, files that needed cleaning are cleaned, ENBoost is installed and ENB graphics are turned off. Everything is up to date, Mod Organizer is functioning properly, INI's are all set, and Tes5edit shows no mod conflicts. Load order is exactly the same as last time. So why am I getting so many CTDs? Why does it work better on my older computer when the setup is exactly the same?

The only thing I can possibly think of is that SKSE's scripts are somehow messed up or misplaced (but I've done this tons of times and sometimes the game does start so I doubt that very much) or that somehow the mods are conflicting and TESedit won't show it as anything significant. I'd also like to mention that while the game is playing, there is no sign that any of the mods aren't active or functioning. All of the mods function exactly as intended with zero glitches. There is also no warning of CTD it just happens.

As I said above, this is a fresh install of Skyrim. The mods listed below are the only ones that have been installed. No mods were ever installed or deleted.

EDIT: I enabled Crash logs via the Mod Organizer Ini editor but I cannot find where the logs are being placed. I imagine they would be helpful.

Set the resolution for your monitor to lower settings to see if that helps.

I enjoyed your theorem on magic.

2k resolution for mods in your list may cause an overload when VRAM swaps to your CPU and RAM. How much Vram does your video card have?

If you have a higher resolution video card now and you haven't tweaked the ini's for it, that can also cause your CTD's.

Not really sure how much Vram I have.

What Ini settings would I need to change exactly? I thought I had changed my Ini settings but maybe I did it wrong.

And thank you regarding the magic thing. It's actually a discussion I have surprisingly often these days.

It looks like you have mods that need the Skyrim Script Extender ? Do you start the game using the Script Extender? The Script Extender I've installed has a shortcut on my desktop and when I click on it, it launches STEAM. After I sign into STEAM it immediately launches Skyrim 32 bit version.

I do have the script extender. I launch the script extender via Mod Organizer (which I have used before with great results). As far as I can tell I'm doing everything exactly the same as I did last time but getting entirely different results.

STEAM may have reset your Skyrim ini back to the default setup after you made the changes tweaking the Skyrim, the SkyrimPrefs, and Skyrim_Default ini's also.

One reason I found that my tweaked ini didn't stick was because the page was Read only. I didn't remember it being set up that way before. It definitely was with the new installation of Skyrim.

I had to untick Read Only, make the changes and tick the Read Only back On to set the page, then Save to make sure it was locked. I made sure the isize w = 1920 and isize H=1080 was set too to the higher resolution my new equipment uses; in each file. Skyrim, has 3 ini files. Just one besides the Skyrim ini also needs the isize settings too to secure they are Not reset to the 1920 x 1080 in the Skyrim ini when we close the game.

Let me know if that is true with your Skyrim ini etc. Before we try another step.

Adjusting Isize seems to have done the trick. At least with the limited amount of testing I've been able to do. Thank you for your help. It the problem returns I'll probably go back to this thread.

Glad to see you're back in the game.

Just to be secure I made all the changes on my ini's then made copies of the ini's in case of emergencies.

Next time: in the worst case scenario if I have to install the whole game the copied ini pages make it quick and easy to restore all the ini's contents and put it into the skyrim ini's.

I put the copies in the Documents folder New Folder, ini for Skyrim, so they don't get trashed when the new settings refresh the games folder to the Skyrim ini and SkyrimPref's, and the one in the games main folder Skyrim_Defaults ini.

I just open the Skyrim copy ini, next to the Skyrim ini and select Edit, choose Select all again, then Paste and one ini page over to the other and the same with the SkyrimPrefs copy ini next to the SkyrimPrefs ini using notepad.

* Poof * like magic. Quick and Easy.

Have fun gaming!

I did something similar in that I have a word document that details everything step by step plus INI copies. I just never realized I had to adjust the resolution in the INI. I figured that would be automatic. I'm sure there is loads more I could improve on with my self-made modding guide.

I'm also running a stronger machine now so I'm trying to up the resolution a bit. I was all about performance in the past and had the worst res. Now I can run high res with no loss in performance, but I wasn't sure what needed to be adjusted. I'm very unfamiliar with ENB so that was/is a long trial.

Ok. Still getting CTDs. Resolution thing seems to have reduced it, but I still get CTDs on startup, loading, etc.

I also get random infinite load screens despite using safety load (among many other fixes).
