I'm at a loss (frequent CTD)

Not sure how this forum thing works but, I could use some help with my game. I go to start a new game and the game crahses. It crunches for a couple seconds and then it closes to desktop.

Do you use load order sorting software like LOOT?

 

If so, my next recommendation is to use TES5edit to check for mod conflicts. If not then go install LOOT and sort your load order. LOOT isn't perfect but it is extremely useful. 80-90% of the time crashes are load order or mod conflicts. The remaining 10% is usually the user did something wrong or the extremely rare case of a very unstable mod.

 

Another option is to, one by one, disable mods and see if the conflict resolves with a particular mod turned off. (Obviously if you disable a mod requirement you should also disable any mods that depend on that requirement or you might get other kinds of trouble.)

 

While my current problems stem from ENB difficulties, I still highly recommend it. If ENB is functioning properly (as it did on my old computer), it can really improve stability. I rarely had any CTD or crashes of any kind when I had ENB functioning.

 

Finally, have you ever deleted mods that you played with? Mod deleting is definitely a bad thing to do. Mods always leave a permanent mark on the game once they're used. If you deleted too many from your game, it can render it very unstable. (I learned this lessen the hard way). Usually the only surefire way to fix the problems caused by deleted mods is to reinstall the game.

 

That's the main gist of what I can offer with the info you've given me. A more knowledgeable modder might be able to tell you what's wrong at a glance. Really though, I can only recommend my process for finding problems and common causes I know of. Sometimes none of the above help and I have to start from scratch entirely before I figure out what the problem was.

 

Considering the crash is at a new game, it could be that something is conflicting with Alternate Start. If you can load saves that you already have, or if you turn off alternate start and things begin to work, that would be a good test.

Right off I see you have lots of water mods.

 

I see you have several other mods that are just as similar to one another as the water ones , so, I suspect the number of mods that do the same thing in different ways is more likely your problem.

 

When I only used the first version of Realistic Water's the creator said, "It has to be at the bottom of the load order list. Also a warning in the creators post is that it may conflict with any other water mods.

Use the STEAM mod order loader in STEAM.

 

If it was me I would put all of them in the load order at the bottom. Test it. If that works Yay! If not un-tick the ones that are from a different author and try that, etc. and so on, repeat until you un-ticked them one by one. Then try the other authors alone one on, the rest off.
