Modding Item stats

Recommended Posts

I would love to mod the Witcher 2 Enhanced Edition, however I have no clue how to edit or create new items. I also have no clue how to edit saved games or making it so Dark mode items don't dissapear in other difficulties.

Could anybody assist me with this?

Hi there, and welcome to the (somewhat restricted) world of Witcher 2 modding :)

Unfortunately, there's no toolkit, so some of things that you're asking about are mods that, to date, nobody has been able to do. (I'm reluctant to say "impossible" out loud, as you may be the one to prove us wrong. :) )

Generally, to mod TW2, you need to

- unpack the relevant dzip file, which usually means pack(0).dzip

- edit the xml files,

- place the modded xml files in the CookedPC folder structure, which will make the game use the modded file instead of the original one.

To unpack dzip files, you will need a tool such as QuickBMS or Gibbed RED Tools.

The RED tools are here: http://witcher.nexusmods.com/mods/52

Details on QuickBMS for TW2 here: http://www.gog.com/en/forum/the_witcher_2/how_to_unpack_the_pack0_dzip_for_modders/page1

Both links include info on how to use the tools.

After unpack the dzip, you can also make changes to other files that have standard tools available, such as the texture files (xbm format)

Regarding the mods you mention

- Changing item stats is fairly straightforward, as this info is in the xml files, so you just need to edit them.

- Creating new items is probably not possible

- Editing savegames may be possible, but nobody's worked out how to do it yet.

- The code that makes dark mode items disappear if you change to a different difficulty level is not accessible, so making DM items available on other difficulty levels is also considered impossible. You may be able to do a partial solution either by modding other items to have the appearance/stats of the DM ones, or by changing the DM ones so that they're not recognised as DM, but you will not get the DM curse/bonus.

  • 2 years later...

Not sure if anyone check this but I had a related question concerning editing item descriptions.

I've already unpacked pack0.dzip and have all item folder xml files ready to be edited. I've successfully edited the stats of several weapons but I would like to be able to change the description tag (e.g. Operator's Staff - Weapon produced by the Vrans).

Any ideas where to look?
