I have a mod that a wanna get, the Mystic night elf one (http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=10842) and its a 7Z file, I put it in the data folder like any other mod but it wasnt at the little menu with my other mods. Why wont it work!?? :wallbash:

7z is the same as zip or rar, compacted files. You need unpack them before using. Winrar I know is able to deal with 7z files but you can download the 7-zip utility here on the Nexus if you want. It is free and good.

Or if OBMM is available (Often told in the readme) then you can install it in a very simple way.

Since they're often built on 7z archives.

You touched an interesting point. To be installed from OBMM the 7z takes the form of an OMOD. The 7z mentioned as OBMM ready are the ones that have the "Omod Conversion Data" folder inside. The point is even the 7z files that aren't OBMM ready can be turned so, and if the mod have subfolders beyond the esp/esm this is a good idea, since eventual uninstalling would be aways easier.

A bit off topic but I'm amazed at the compression stats for 7z, it can compress .dds files dramatically I got about 8 gig of .dds file into about 600MB... I think it was some High Res Eye Candy textures by Ozmo.

7z is a compressed file format similar to winzip, but better. Many mod makers use it because it can compress the files faster and better. Unlike some other formats is completely free. 7-zip can work with most other compressed files such as winzip and winrar as well as 7z files.

It is available FREE on Tesnexus here: http://tesnexus.com/downloads/file.php?id=15579

Please read the instructions for how to install 7-zip and how to use it before installing.
