MarkusTay
I saw this trailer for a new game the other day, and since I have been having TONS of F4 problems and keep having to start new games to test stuff, I've seen the beginning sequence at least 30 times in the past two weeks, and I couldn't help but notice some striking similarities... Outer Worlds Even the way the PC falls out of the cryopod is exactly the same. All they did was add a Rick(&Morty)-like character to the beginning instead of Kellogg. They swapped giant colony-ships for vaults, and we got what looks like Fallout in space! Oh... and it looks like what we were all hoping for with F4... or F76.it would be funny as hell if they made the year 2277, or some-such. And in case anyone thinks this isn't really F4-related, the whole point is that as soon as I saw it, I thought of F4. Its almost like a parody-take of F4's beginning vault sequence. Oh, and read the comments - I'm not the only one who thinks it. You guys should get a kick out of them - so much shade being throw Beth's way.
AeonsLegend
Looks interesting and it's an obvious jest towards Fallout 4 yes. But then again gaming companies often do this. There's plenty of that between Fallout and Borderlands as well.
aufisch
That really looks good. Is it open world? Could be something to sweeten the waiting time until Elders Scrolls 6.
MarkusTay
Unfortunately, its biggest strike against it is that it is NOT 'open world', but if you read through the comments you'll see people's arguments that there really is no such thing: Or have you not run into the fence around the Commonwealth? Have you tried to simply walk to Nuka-World? Or seen the entire boat-ride to Far Harbor? Hell, just walk into most buildings, or underground. Or take an elevator for that matter. From what little there is to research, most of the world will be enterable upon start, and creatures/NPCs DO scale with your level... somewhat. Some areas WILL still be extremely hard compared to the ones you are 'supposed to be' in. But how is that any different than going into the southern Commonwealth near the early game? Oh, I have... its very hard, but it can be done. And according to the game's designers, this should work mostly the same way. Only certain specific areas are locked behind leveling or quests (I could start naming a bunch of places in the Commonwealth that are also locked behind quests and levels, including the DLCs). However, the potential for a more 'open world' experience is there, because we start-out with two worlds (one with a colony/civilization, and the other 'wild'), and they plan to add more worlds through DLCs (so, very much like how F4's 'open world' works). Like I said, I read through a lot of the comments, and people have made some very good points. Why do some people feel that being stuck in Boston is 'open world', but having two planets to explore is not? if you look hard enough, those artificial 'walls' are still there, in what folks call 'open world'. they just aren't as blatant about it. Another point people make is that developers sometimes spend so much time on the 'open world' they fail to fill it with content (No Man's Sky... or Fallout 76). What good is having tons of area to roam around in if there's nothing to interact with? No-one to talk to? Don't get me wrong - I LOVE the whole 'Open World' concept, being an RPG-style gamer for as long as I can remember, but its just easier to tell a really god STORY in a smaller setting. Sometimes a company gets so enamored with their eye-candy, story falls by the wayside. Take Mass Effect: Andromeda, for example - when the franchise moved to an open-world style, the visuals were stunning, but the gameplay was lacking compared to previous titles. So don't let genre-tags decide your game-choices, because you might be surprised by how much fun a game you otherwise overlooked can actually be (for me, it was Smash - I hate fighting games but my kids all play it and got me to love it). AeonsLegend
Open world constitutes a world where you can go anywhere and do anything at any given time. The size of the world doesn't really matter. That is just perspective. As long as there is no physical lineair path to follow. I personally don't really like the open world concept when it comes to story telling. I've yet to come across an open world game where the story was worth it. None of the Bethesda games have stories that were interesting for instance. And I've played a lot. They're all random on the side stories with no real impact. The whole premise of Fallout 4's story demands a lineair game. It will not work any other way. This is because of the necessity to follow up on it. Trying to find a child and hten combining that with an open world with loads to explore, each infinitely more interesting than the main story is just a dumb idea. I find myself scouring the wastes for parts, build settlements and do side quests to find more loot. The worlds Bethesda creates invite the player to do just that. Poor decision making to have this type of story to start everything off. Only an idiot gives up looking for his/her kid 1 minute into the game to grow crops and build a house. The game wants me to be an idiot.
aufisch
As long as I can go and do most stuff whenever I like I'm ok. It doesn't matter if part of the world is locked initially, at least not as long as I can go back and forth between the different areas after unlocking them. I will see what this develops into anyway.
