File Conflict Question

To answer your question earlier, I am playing Skyrim SE.

Yes, you are correct. I'm using Tempered Skins for Males and I did not select females. At least I do know not to select females. But, I may have accidentally enabled it, when I disabled/renenabled the mod, when trying to narrow down the mod that was causing issues yesterday.

I was experiencing grey face on specific npcs, Ria and Vilkis. I was able to fix them through the Creation Kit. But, then I notice it showed up on Aela, when I reinstalled Bijin Warmaidens. I was able to fix her. I think Total Character Makeover, is what caused the issue with Ria and Vilkis. As for Tempered Skins for Males and Fine Faces. I logged in and that appears to be working as intended. I now have a better understanding how to manage conflicting files. Things don't appear to be conflicting in the Vortex side of things. I'm still worried about what I'm going to find, when I get further into the game. How many NPCs were effected?

Congratulations! You now understand the basics of file conflict resolution in Vortex.

Your current issues now appear to be mod related rather than Vortex related. You will find helpful, experienced Skyrim SE mod users here: https://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/forum/4060-skyrim-special-edition-mod-troubleshooting/. However, if you suspect that any mod issues you are having are Vortex related, don't hesitate to bring them up here in the Vortex forums.

Tempered Skins of Males, is naturally conflicting with the Fine Face textures that I am currently adding. I'm not sure which one should load before the other. I figure, better to ask then to take my chances, which will send me on another hair raising adventure of trying to back out and making it worst as I go. I am having a problem with things like Pretty Lips showing up. Skin mods seem to be where I am having the most trouble. I have watched the tutorials. I'm still confused on somethings.

I just want to thank all you tech people for attempting to help me. I'm an artsy creative type person. I'm sure many of you easily know the solution to this problem. I really do appreciate anyone willing to help me. This is just not one of my strong areas. I just want to make Skyrim beautiful and get back to telling my story through my character.

When dealing with conflicting files in Vortex, e.g., conflicting textures, I concentrate on "load after" rather than "load before." Why? Because when selecting "load after" I'm telling Vortex, "Yes, that's the texture I want in my game." If I select "load before," I'm telling Vortex, "No, I don't want that texture in my game." For my games I've discovered that I say "yes" more times than I say "no," because I'm focusing on what I do want rather than what I don't want in my game.

Same thing here ( as Augusta Calidia does ) and rest of my folks, load after is my way to go and I have no single conflict resolved by loading before.

Also, what I do is to stick to only one mod of a kind as much as I can. Installing for example, Verdant and Grassland in Skyrim, Vortex will find a conflict between those two mods and one of them must load after so what is the point to have two doing the same thing when one of them will be overwritten anyway ?

There is a possibility to resolve files between those two mods as HadToRegister explained but again, that is to be done only if you want two or more files from both mods to apply in the game, which is very possible.

Since Vortex is very simple and does 75% of all things automatically for me, I also try to keep it simple for myself by not installing two mods of the same kind which translate in less conflicts to resolve, easier to handle and be ready to play with a much stable game than not.
