jjb54
Okay, this is NOT a dis on Mod and non-mod Skyrim Homes. I actually have a couple of mods that 'enhance' - Breezehome, Honeyside and the 3 Hearthfire homes. I also have 3 Mod Homes added to the game. But here is the thing that I noticed, about my game play: I am usually "on the road again" - vs - actually staying home with the kids and/or followers and such to " take a break " and to unload the spoils of my trips. Okay, so all these nice homes, well are nice, but I'm never really there for any amount of time to enjoy them. They are just 'eye candy' -vs- the drab Vanilla homes. So how many of you stay at any or 1 of your homes for any "period of time" to just 'be' or 'relax' and how do you spend this time doing such? I find I'm stop - drop - sleep and on the road again ... Are there any mods that make staying home worth it??? Maybe that would help????
TheVampireDante
When my presently used character has a home (not all of mine do), then unless on a major quest or a long trip I'll try and get them back home at least every couple of days. Maybe stay for just as long and then set out again. They'll stay and rest up, repair equipment, train themselves and prepare for their next outing. I've had ones that stay at home for a week or two without going further than what their daily needs required (food, water, crafting supplies, etc).If they have a library, I'll check the books are in order and that they've read everything present before buying any new ones. One of mine goes fishing, another one spends a lot of time practicing with their archery targets. Smithing and other crafting can take up a fair amount of time if you practice them enough, and can be a decent money maker with the tradesmen if you sell off some of your work.Decorating and re-organizing your belongings in a home passes the time too, especially if you bring a lot of loot home. Modded or non-modded home depends on the character really, what they "require" from their homes and how invested in the character you are.
FlashFatman
I usually play with 3 to 5 player homes. What I do is give each of my follower girlfriends a home and that gives me a reason to visit them every so often. I like the smaller homes and stay away from those "modest" homes that have armories and room for 20 followers and kids. I also try to stay away from forges and such because I think there are too many in the game already.
Moksha8088
I use one specific mod home, Levelers Tower and have been using that in both LE and now SE since I first started playing Skyrim. It is a fantastic dwelling and is seen right after emerging from the Helgen cavern. It helps get me prepared for my journey to Riverwood and Whiterun, plus it furnishes the best horse available in Skyrim and offers a fun arena to practice my fighting skills. I use Elianora's Breezehome mod simply because it is a fantastic makeover. I have homes added by other quest-type mods such as Caranthir Tower Reborn, Qaxe's Questorium, etc... because they are part of the story and these homes make for nice dwellings. One mod for Skyrim SE I miss is the old Campgrounds for Vilja. Those thirty-five campgrounds made for excellent places to stay the night in the wilderness. Now I just use a tent fetching spell. I always put the six Hearthfire/Multiple Adoptions/The Kids are Alright children in Proudspire Manor. Leveler's Tower would be able to furnish the most beds, but if the children had full run of that huge place, they would seldom be seen.
thumbincubation
Now that I have portable containers, my home is wherever I happen to be at the time. :)
Herbiehv
I have a home were I do all my smithing, alchemy etc (Autumn Haven). One chest is connected to all work stations. Very handy. I also keep my gathered quest weapons and armor there.Breezehome is my home for follower and children (Breezehome by Lupus).Leaf Rest is my.. vacation home with sauna, hot tub, music also some ledger work (trade).I have a base for hunting trips. Few others are stops while roaming the country. I return to every home I have depending on mood or play style that session.I seldom use the vanilla houses obtained by becoming jarl. Except Breezehome.
jones177
Some modded homes have been in my game for so long that Skyrim isn't Skyrim without them. The main two being Riverside Lodge and Elysium Estate. Even the fictional owners of these homes haven't changed since they are early followers that have been ported over from LE.I view the followers that fill the inns of Skyrim(if you download them) as refugees that have been displaced by war. I build the Hearthfire homes for these refugees. They all use MHIYH to go to work in the towns. Breezehome is lydia's home and is the only townhome I use. Both the homes and followers help to flesh out Skyrim and make it a place that I never tire of visiting.

So I know what you are talking about. Sometimes I will find mods that fit a character and story I want to tell / play.
awesomeal360
I typically will pick one house to live at but may purchase others just cause, but I like to start my game session at my house and end there also. I might be weird but I like ending the game with my character being somewhere safe. If I can't make it to my house, I'll stay at an inn. thumbincubation
Just started a new play through. With IC out of my mod list, I can actually move in Rorikstead again, so I'm taking advantage of Arthmoor's expansion. You can claim Lokir's abandoned home as your own. (Lokir is the horse thief from the Helgen scene.)
