Skyrim SE not recognizing rtx 2080 ti

I just upgraded to a msi 2080 ti gaming x trio gpu. Skyrim won't recognize the gpu and globally sets to graphics to low. I had a evga 1080 sc gpu that worked fine with Skyrim SE. I obviouslycan manually set the graphics and the game loads at a whopping 6fps on ultra settings with this $1300 graphics card. I'm guessing this is either a driver issue or Bethesda may need an update to the game for the new rtx lineup?

Anyone have any ideas as to whats going on?

have you tested out other games of similar release year? if those games run at ultra, then it is probably just detection issue, if it's not then most likely you gotta find and update all your drives and libraries.

I use a RTX 2080 ti to run the game and I am having no issues with it.

Skyrim and Skyrim SE run better than ever at 4k resolution.

Back when the 1000 series came out I had lots of problems like stutter a low frame rate. It took 6 months of driver updates to fix the issues.

With the RTX card all I had to do was update ENB and all is well.

What the card doses best in the game is not bog down when there is a lot going on. My GTX 1080 ti did bog down so it was a good upgrade.

Here is some info on my setup.

CPU = i7 8086k overclock to 5ghz on all cores.

GPU = EVGA 2080 ti XC Gaming.

Game on = 1tb SSD

Just dropping this here for the next person that googles the answer and gets this page. I get the same message, "Your video hardware was not identified. Video settings have been set to low quality."

Contrary to what the message says, the game DID detect my hardware. At the end of my skyrimPrefs.ini there is the line.

sD3DDevice="NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080"

So it actually did detect. So what I did was manually click the ultra button. Then I went into the prefs and manually changed my resolution to 2560x1080. Borderless=1

Then tried to play the game and it worked.

So if you get the message, "Your video card was not identified." Don't give up, check your skyrimprefs.ini. It might be detected after all. You might have to manually set the resolution and quality level.

I know this is a bit tombstoned, but I wanted to add that with almost all of the new, higher-ended GPUs, Skyrim's algorithm is no longer capable "officially" detecting the hardware when you use the initial launcher function. It does indeed list your hardware in SkyrimPrefs.ini, but the GUI itself doesn't seem to have the intelligence to handle the specifics. I know that almost everyone on here wants to manually adjust settings since that's how we've always done that kind of thing with Skyrim/SSE, but I thought I'd point out that EVERYTHING that the launcher does can now be handled more easily than manual and most granularly than through the launcher's advanced settings via NVidia's GeForce Experience utility. I've quit using the launcher altogether since it's klewdgy AF, and I can tweak a lot more settings for SSE using GeForce Exp and the NVidia Control Panel (especially vSync stuff). Just and FYI for you NVidia players out there.

both sse & fo4 set everyting on low, when i remove the ini files, although mine 1660 ti show in the ini files after starting/closing launcher(both don't say don't reconice card)

just hit ultra edit the options/ini's and all is fine

its just the launcher that don't reconice the newer cards, both games run fine with them (remember both are old already and beth will never update the exe's so they reconice the newest cards

Yea, I'm using an RTX 2080 myself. Not the TI but still, a beast of a card that Skyrim thinks should be at low settings. Obviously that's a problem.

I didn't have RTX 2080 in my Skyrim prefs, but when I launch the game, it appears to be running fine on Ultra settings.

Hopefully this doesn't cause any issues a week from now when I finally finish modding the game.

Edit: This solved my issue. Thanks!
