Stop using a merged patch, that's actually the worst thing you can do, you should be using a Bashed patch from Wrye instead ( explained exactly why in my guide - linked below )

Check out my guide and do ALL of steps 1-3 in the order I have them, and Appendix 1 ( if needed - IE any orange mods in Wrye )

also make sure you read the quotes from Alternity and sharlikran ( 2 of the major contributors to Wrye bash )

Thanks, this seems to have done the trick, although I still had to do a few more hard re-installs to get it all to work.

On the subject of your attempted fixes.

You cannot load anything with the 3GB enabler. What that does, is it makes changes to the Fallout3.exe to have the game use more than 2GB. In order to patch FOSE (which is unnecessary), you would have to rename FOSE.exe to Fallout3.exe and then run the enabler. Then rename the patched Fallout3.exe to FOSE.exe and return it to the game folder.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with using a merged patch. I have been using one for years with a little over 100 mods.

You should never use LOOT to sort your load order. It has never sorted Fallout3 mods correctly. I have always used B.O.S.S. and then never changed my load order.

Also, StreetLights - Wasteland.esp should be disabled and deleted. It has been incorporated into the latest StreetLights and is no longer necessary.

The best thing you can do is not have the game installed in "Program Files".

This actually doesn't matter anymore and I'll explain why. The only reason users would use Loot is for the cleaning advice and anything else not involving load order. Once you run Wrye Flash, it now has a built in optimization tool that uses the correct load order. This change to Wrye Flash occurred about 1.5 years ago and I don't mention it because most people don't even notice it. By following my own guide Fallout 3 is the most stable Fallout game i play. More stable by far than FONV or FO4 ( and yes i know that would depend on what mods a person uses ).

Even if a person used BOSS instead, Wrye Flash would still optimize the load order when you run it.

My guide is designed as a system of checks and balances and if followed has worked every time with only ONE exception since i originally wrote the Skyrim version back in October 2014.

ok one thing i just noticed is this file

Unofficial Fallout 3 Patch.esm

should be loaded after the very last DLC, it specifically states on the description page that no other MOD should load before it

did you ever delete any mods that were used on that save?

if so then that is your problem because you are NEVER supposed to unless starting a new character
