MaxxTheEnder
Okay, so i was playing around with mods for a while, and it worked just fine, i wanted to start a new player game without as much mods (graphical, and one race mod plus Unofficial Skyrim Patch), so i put all of my saves that had the old mods into a archive folder, and disable a whole bunch of mods that i wasn't planning on using. I know that these were working before in the load order they were in, so i figured that only disabling the ones i didn't want would be fine, i open up the launcher press play, steam says i'm playing Skyrim for a few seconds then says i'm not, figured that i'd do a test without any mods, still CTD after pressing play on launcher. checked game cache multiple times, each time saying i have 1 file that failed to validate, did a fresh install, again testing without any mods still CTD. looked up my issue on YouTube, full uninstall including from my documents and appdata/local then reinstalled it. still CTD. at this point i have absolutely no idea what exactly is wrong with it. because even after full uninstall it still wants to CTD after pressing play in launcher. also i don't know if this technically counts as a mod related troubleshoot since it's after installing mods, and wanting to do a light mod playthrough. Chenoah
Hmmm. I know you have already reinstalled a ridiculous amount of time but I would try one more time using the STEP Wiki. You said you deleted the files from documents but there are two areas you need to visit to wipe it completely. IF using steam one will be in steam, steamapps, common, skyrim and the other in documents, my games, skyrim. https://wiki.step-project.com/Guide:Make_Skyrim_Vanilla_Again Make sure you follow all of it to get rid of everything that could be hiding. Launch the game vanilla after reinstallation make sure all is well before starting to mod. Aside from this could we see your load order with mods that you are using? If you aren't installing a lot perhaps instead of the clean install you can uninstall all the mods, check to see if the game has stopped its CTD's and then reinstall them two at a time so you might pinpoint which mod is causing your issues. When the game failed to validate did it reacquire the file after? I am assumed when you said that you used steam and it should automatically reacquire the file. Though it sounds like perhaps something isn't getting deleted that should be in your fresh install if it is CTD'ing after a new install.
MaxxTheEnder
yes i did in fact delete it from the folder itself rather than through steam, and i haven't reinstalled any of the mods yet due to the vanilla game not even working. as for checking the verifying cache whenever i check it, it always fails to validate 1 file, then downloads 752 bytes of data, but i go to check if it worked by checking cache again, it says it has failed to validate 1 file again and will reacquire it and either downloads 752 bytes or 0 bytes again.Well i actually thought about what i wanted, and i'm only going to run the Lykaios Race mod after running the Unofficial Skyrim Patch. So i found something in the steam folder itself, and it's called debug.log apparently Skyrim is looking for a settings version 1 (not entirely sure what that means) error is "[1228/152134.192:ERROR:settings.cc(324)] Settings version is not 1" i'm not sure where these settings are, but clearly something isn't loading right due to the settings not being the correct version, and seeing as how steam isn't downloading the broken file for me, I have absolutely no clue way of fixing it. Chenoah
Hmm.. have you upated Skyrim to the most current version? I'm not certain about that debug log either. In the past to ensure a totally clean skyrim because I had so many mods from using nmm in my data folder is I opened the skyrim folders and deleted every single thing in there including the my games folder to saves as well. Then I uninstalled via steam and completely reinstalled. If your connection is decent it shouldn't take over an hour to reinstall.
MaxxTheEnder
yeah i've done that exact method for clean installing multiple times now. and i don't think they're going to release any updates for the original skyrim any time soon, and i'm fairly certain that they haven't released updates in quite some time now. unless steam is an outdated version of the game it should be the most current version. Chenoah
This is a long shot because it is going beyond my realm of understanding but have you also uninstalled whatever mod manager you are using whether it be MO or NMM and before that deactivated all mods that are checked in it? I found these instructions in a steam post. https://steamcommunity.com/app/72850/discussions/0/864951657981699577/ Exit Steam from the taskbar so Steam is completely shut down.Find the installation folder(something like C:\Program Files\Steam or C:\Program Files(x86)\Steam) inside there you will find clientregistry.blob, right click on clientregistry.blob and delete it.Open up Steam(you may have to log in again) and let it update Steam, it will also update Skyrim and you should then be able to play it. Try this too. It clears your download cache. Instructions in link below. https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=3134-TIAL-4638
TheObstinateNoviceSmith
Hey there Maxx, How are you trying to initiate playing the game? I mean at first. Are you hitting "play" from Steam in order to start up the game or are you doing it from the Skyrim.exe? Basically, I'm just curious if it is generating an INI file from what you can tell. MaxxTheEnder
it launches from steam and the skyrim launcher pops up, but when i press play on the launcher it says it's playing for a second or two and then never launches skyrim, i also just had an idea, isn't there supposed to be a load order text file somewhere in the skyrim files? if so what is it called cause i think that may have been the issue (i just had this thought about 5 minutes ago) also about those solutions that chenoah posted, i tried those a second time after initially doing it, it didn't seem to work. MaxxTheEnder
turns out that it didn't exist due to it not launching. so it IS launching tesv.exe but it disappears after a second or two, and it only shows up in task manager (as shown in the video) added dxdiag if anyone needs that for whatever reason. also added the event viewer report to hopefully have somewhat of an idea.
