jimhsu
My concept of modding hierarchy (your mileage may vary, and no offense to any of these groups): Mod users: "typical average internet user/troll/etc"Game setting changers: Mod users with an ounce of intelligence.Texture artists: Mod users that actually follow instructions. New "XYZ" makers: Slight masochistsPapyrus scripters: Masochists3D meshers: Serious masochists Total conversion guys: Big team, or freaking insane.NifSkope/SKSE/SkyBoost/SD guys: You are crazy. Thank you. Period. --- I'm somewhere in that middle group depending on how I feel on any particular day. Edited July 30, 2012 by jimhsu
forthemods08
I'm in no way defending the dummy posters who whine/dont read the description/blame mods for their broken game etc.. i just made this thread strictly based on some VERY weird behaviour i noticed with a few modders ;) as an adult, if i ever decided to get into modding i would go into it fully expecting that not everyone will be happy.. and that there will be psycho posters who cry no matter what you put out... and then you have mods like climates of tamriel.. the modder is not hostile, listens to feedback, and has worked very hard on their... it seems that the community has appreciated it fully and the positive feedback has reflected that! tetradite
as an adult, if i ever decided to get into modding i would go into it fully expecting that not everyone will be happy.. and that there will be psycho posters who cry no matter what you put out... It's a hard one, that being prepared/thinking you're prepared for something idea though. I'm lucky in that the mod I have that I really care about, has not attracted any asshats yet. The closest I have no a full on negative commenter still endorsed it :D But.... I have made a mod by request that attracted a LOT of trolling, and I was expecting it to (part of the reason I did it in a weird kind of way was because I KNEW it would get grief, but I knew I wouldn't be personally bothered by it), but the level of it was still shocking. In that case I was lucky in that I didn't really "care" about the mod in the way that I would one that was totally "my own". Even though I expect the worst of people, always, it can still be a punch in the guts when they don't disappoint you. And even if you expect it and are tough, the constant stream of negativity can wear you down.
bben46
I have already run the users down. Now it's time to raise them back up. My guess is better than 90% of the users never complain or whine. They come here find a mod that they think they will like and download it. Then go off and play it. If they find they don't like it, they remove it and get another one. They download thousands of mods and never even post on the forums. They tell their friends what mods they like and recommend the Nexus to them. However, these users rarely endorse the mods either. Neither do they give positive feedback. They are not trolls but just people who want to play the game and want the mods. But don't want to participate in the community. That is their right, just as it is their right to participate if they want to. Many do read the forums, but just to find answers to their own problems. A few do post those questions, and accept the answers as given without feeling the need to criticize either the modders or the forum regulars. I was actually one of those lurkers for quite a while before I saw the same question being asked over and over. I knew the answer and decided to try to help one of them. The thanks I got gave me quite a rush. And now I am addicted to trying to make it easier for the neophytes to learn want it was so difficult for me to figure out in the beginning. StayFrosty05
Nexus is a community of people and like any community of people, there are saints and jerks and every shade in between among both the modders and mod users, that just the way communities are.....As a very 'noob' to PC's and modded games I find there are those among the modders who will go well above and beyond their own responsibilities and will bend over backwards to try and help in every way possible and not just with their own mods, these people have my deep respect and appreciation...then there's the complete opposite spectrum, arrogant jerks who seem to feel if you are not an expert on all things PC and the jargon and know how it comes with, then you are something nasty they found between their toes....People are people in all shades of being. I am currently attempting to learn how to mod armor, it will be revealing male armor...I expect to be hung, drawn and quartered by some (how dare I reveal the male body, that's disgusting....apparently), but know I will be supported by many too. IsharaMeradin
Before there were weird modders there were only weird users. :P Seriously tho it goes both ways. My modding background comes from the Baldur's Gate series. So I'm not new to modding, just new to Skyrim modding. Something I learned is to take it slow. Do small mods that do one thing and one thing only. It may become part of something bigger later, but it is functional and releasable in its own right. I 'continue' to mod BG cause I feel obligated. It's not really fun any more. It was when I was learning how to make things work, but not now. I do it cause, I'm the one who opened his big mouth and said I'd make the 'updated & modernized' unoffical fixpack long before I knew what the heck I was doing. Still don't to be honest. Completed the game once before getting involved with it and haven't really played since, only testing stuff out. It's not fun. I even took at two year break, played an online game and spent time with my youngest who is two. Tried to get back into BG and all that. But there is this new enhanced edition that's supposed to be coming out and I'm really feeling like why bother when they're going to re-release the game and one of my 'team' has already given them the list of bugs we've found and patched. My work isn't needed any more, good time to get out. If that don't make me weird then I don't know what does, but something does cause my nine year old tells me I'm weird all the time. Skyrim, it's gonna be different. I'm still playing the game, been testing out mods trying to see what I like and what works. Tweaked a few things here and there. Some I've even shared here on the Nexus. The first mod I posted here, I was thrilled with the comments I got. The ability to get feedback in a specific location tied to the mod is wonderful. I'm 'anti-social' in real life, just ask my family. My 'social' life tends to come via forums and the like. Now THAT is weird :P Oh and if we are ranting... I dislike people who respond and say things like "wish people would learn to read". When I ask a question it's cause I don't understand why something is happening. Had one mod that it said in the description that a certain skill would level SLOWLY, it didn't explain how slowly or why this was the case. My definition of slowly is different than the other peoples. I'd leveled twice because of this skill and hadn't done anything other thing than a direct line to Riverwood and on to Whiterun. So I asked about it. Mod author never responded cause it 'was in the description'. The other people keep trying to tell me that my thoughts were all wrong, in the end I decided to drop the mod altogether. They can think what they will about me, but I don't need people telling me that I have to think like them to play the game. Another thing I don't like and this is as a user, modders who say to use Wyre Bash to merge their leveled lists with other mods if necessary and then state that they don't know how to do that themselves. I've yet to find any kind of serious instruction on how to use Wyre Bash with Skyrim mods. Most talk as if you've used the program with other games. What I need is Cliff's Notes on the Idiot's Guide to Using Wyre Bash for Noobs of Skyrim and TES Games in General kudos for the weird title? okay maybe not.... DeathWarrior
http://i.imgur.com/dMo29.jpg relax im just kidding... or am i?LOL awesome! That picture just got you a kudos! On topic: I guess some modders might take attacks by others personally due to the time and effort they put into them. Personally, when I make mods for Skyrim or any other game and upload them, I do it mainly for my own personal enjoyment. While it's nice to have people who like my mods, I could care less if they don't.
