Is Skyrim worth this upgrade ?

Recommended Posts

I currently have AMD Phenom II x4 945 3.0 GHz and I am planning to upgrade to Intel i5-2500k. So I want to ask you if the upgrade is worth the performance gain ?

Thanks in advance.

not if it means you have to buy a new mobo as well. unless you plan on OCing it too, cause 2500k can get up to like 4.0 on air if not higher

I would think that a graphics card would be a more important upgrade if you wish to improve performance in games. A 3.0ghz quad core is more than enough to run Skyrim. My laptops quad turbos up to 2.9 ghz (base is only a mere 2.0) and I still run Skyrim on ultra settings (x8aa/x16af) +graphics mods/high resolution textures sitting around the fps cap of 60 most of the time so I am not sure how much of an fps boost you will see. The only time I have wanted a more powerful cpu was during intensive rendering where it will use as much as you have.

For bang for your buck, you can't go past RAM. When i was trying to get Crysis running on my first, rubbish gaming rig, a GT8800 didn't make much difference, but RAM, made about 40 FPS of difference. It was also very cheap($55 from the PC supply shop down the road). Edited by Vindekarr
