Hoamaii
Hi guys, With textures mods, data files directory can grow quite big. Though, I'm not currently using any graphic mod nor the HD pack, I noticed my data files still weigh over 7 Gb. Usually, running the game (using the Task Manager to check) remains below 2 Gb, which should leave another free 2 Gb to use if necessary.(RAM 6Gb - VRAM 1.5 Gb) I would guess it is not a problem if it's non-replacer textures such as armor or weapons standalones for instance, since the game never has to load them all in the same time - but wandered if it might become a real issue in other instances. Guess it can be if you are using skin textures replacers for instance. Thus the question, should we consider that above a certain size limit for the data file, chances are things are going to get buggy? Sorry if that sounds like a stupid question, or has been answered 100 times before, but I checked the forum with the search engine, and could not find an answer. Many thanks in advance to anybody who can enlighten me!.. Cheers to all :0) PS. I'm guessing there is no simple answer to that, but there still may be warning signs or a sort of check list of things to watch and/or avoid... Georgiegril
I don't know the answer, but I do know when I updated a coupla already big mods to the latest versions, which were double and triple the size, I started having crashes that were fixed by returning to the older, smaller, version. Whether this was an aggregate file size issue or just a mod conflict caused by the newer versions increasing the number altered cells, I cannot say. And I would love to know the answer as well! Hoamaii
@ Georgiegril: Yeah, same issue here. And at other times it's the other way around, bigger files with clearly seperated datas work better than others trying to deliver compact content... Actually, I'm just trying to understand here if the game itself (independantly from your PC's specs) has an upper limit to the amount of non-Vanilla data it can handle... A little bit like we know there are critical save files' sizes that will make it crash. Cheers from Paris, Georgiegril :0)
