Transferring Skyrim to separate SSD disk

Hi,

I am at level 55. I have just purchased separate SSD disk which I intend to keep solely for games. Skyrim is at the moment installed on my system disk (also SSD). I also have NMM and LOOT installed.

My questions are:

a.) is there a way to reinstall Skyrim on separate disk without losing my level, character stats, skills etc.?

b.) after reinstall, should I reinstall NMM and LOOT on the same ssd disk as well ?

(I don't have Steam, btw)

Thanx in advance

I once transfered all skyrim files to another computer, document files, data files, mods, everything and it did work but that was long ago. I have over 500 saves, 4000 hours logged on Skyrim massive settlements created, 400 installed mods and 290 GB of dedicated data to this game.

So what I recommend for you to do is get your new SSD, get Acronis true image and clone your whole SSD on your pc right now. I always keep a backup of my PC in case Skyrim dumps on me and it has in the past so I can quickly change SSD's then clone that one back to the other one it has saved me many many times.

Acronis will make a duplicate copy of your ssd nmm, LOOT everything, give it a try.

Wow. I always wondered how one could install more than a couple of dozen Skyrim mods without causing crashes and all sort of incompatibility problems. I do have a decent PC configuration but I encountered problems even with ordinary mods like Sounds of Skyrim so I had to disable them in NMM. Never mind. I already did back up of SSD system disk with AOMEI. If I clone it on my new SSD, I will have there not only Skyrim, but complete content of the system disk as well, which I don't want...

I haven't used Acronis so far. Should I clone only the content of (C:) Games folder (where I have Skyrim and NMM) ? I mean, are there other folders elsewhere associated with the game?

The problem with only cloning one directory is, you won't update the windows registry when you clone. So, all the utilities will be looking in the wrong place for the games. What he is suggesting is, if your new drive is larger, clone the entire existing drive to the new one.....

According to theory, Steam does have the capability to be moved elsewhere on your computer. There should be some threads around here about that somewhere......

One last thought, will acronis clone a gpt file system? (windows 10 native install) Unless things have changed, I don't think it will..... I do believe that was the reason we went to Macrium Reflect. I KNOW it will do GPT file system, and its free for home use as well.

Thank you.

I could clone the entire drive to the new one. However, the new SSD is 250 GB large (just like my system disk). If I clone it, then I will have 115 GB of used space on the new SSD disk. Skyrim + NMM take only 29 GB. I am reluctant to waste those 85 GB...if you understand me.

But, if it is the only solution, I'll do it. (I have Win7, btw)

Trust me clone it, no matter the disk space. I just checked last week and a Crucial 500gb SSD is right now 57 dollars on Amazon hell I might buy another one. Can't even begin to tell you how many times Skyrim has crashed hard on me where I HAD to clone the SSD back a real lightsaver. After you install more mods go back and reclone it always keep a fresh copy of your OS handy cause you never know. Make sure you are only cloning to the same PC everytime as drivers and such are dependent what's on the SSD.
