Firedshot
OK so i have 3ds max 2009 and 2012 installed on my PC. With '09 i can import the nif files using the nif plugin. i uninstalled this and re-installed it to work with '12 but now it won't import the files into '12. I get the error of the files not being appropriate. So i uninstalled again and re-stalled for '09 and all is work fine there? Both '09 & '12 are installed on another drive. I only mention this because the Nif plugin installs to C: not D: where both copies are although i can't see this being an issue if it works for '09. I've browsed the web and can't find a solution so if anyone else has an idea please let me know because I've got no hair left I've be scratching that much :s
Ghogiel
What version of the niftools plugin are you trying to use with 2012? I take it this is a x64 version of max? Do you also have the 32bit version installed? Edited July 24, 2012 by Ghogiel

Ghogiel
check in your install> programs\autodesk\3ds max 2012\plugins\ that you have NifMagic.dll and NifPlugins.dlu. NifMopp should only be present in 32bit installs as it isn't a valid 64bit dll. And in the pluginscfg folder you have a MaxNifTools.ini (there is also a plugincgf folder in appdata.) that's pretty much all it should install. Firedshot
Now we are getting some where. the installer installed the file to c: not where 3ds is installed to. i've transfered the files to the right place on the D: now but i get an ini error and no texture when the mesh loads. This is defeintly progrees thanks :)
Ghogiel
The textures will likely not load unless you have extracted the dds files to the default games installation folder. Other wise this is somthing you can set up in the MaxNifTools.ini. as a hack you can just use the eyedropper tool in the material editor to snag the imported material that is on the mesh, then just drag and drop the dds into the diffuse map slot. Firedshot
ok error says "maxniftools could not find a valid ini. the plugin may bot work correctly. That come up 5 time then the mesh loads but not texture. i have all the meshes and textures extracted in to a fold on my hard drive. I don't seem to have maxniftools.ini where should that be? Ghogiel
I expect the ini it is talking about is the MaxNifTools.ini. make sure there is one in both appdata and the actual autodesk program folder in plugscgf. that's about all I can think of. I can send you it if you can't find it.. Edited July 24, 2012 by Ghogiel
