Hey, it's been a long time since I put a game of skyrim together and I haven't modded SE yet. Just got a few questions, any help is greatly appreciated.

- What mod manager is best? I prefer Mod Organizer and it has a crap ton of endorsements so I assume its working well with SE now but there are a lot of comments and bug reports... heh.

- What utility programs do I need to grab? The usual, wrye bash, the Skyrim version of FO3Edit, Skyrim SE script extender, LOOT for load orders... and... anything else?

- What patches do I need to make? Merged and bashed? And lastly...

- Are there any tips on making my patches like,

which one should I make first?

should one be included INTO the other?

and are there any options I should exclude when making those patches?

NEVER use a merged patch for your entire load order.

Merging like mods together ( all armor or all weapons ) is fine but a merged patch should never be used for the entire load order as Explained why in my guide by 2 of the main contributors to Wrye Bash, below

I use NMM. That said I got SSEedit, LOOT, WRYE Bash, Resaver and any other tools I can find installed. Ya never know... In NMM you can add all these tools to use from within NMM. I just haven't wanted to try other Mod Managers yet. But I'm learning along the way just by having these tools. If I read something, I already got the tool installed and can try/test it immediately. ;)

If you decide to use MO, you should use MO2 instead. If I recall correctly, MO doesn't work with SE. I could be wrong, though. Even if that isn't true, the author has left and is working on Vortex. MO2 works perfectly for SE and is currently being worked on. Also, I wouldn't recommend NMM either as it is also outdated and no longer being worked on. Vortex is its replacement. I personally haven't used it, so I can't say anything about it.

I hear ya, but I played Skyrim since it came out, and always used NMM. And old habits die hard

I have downloaded MO2, but haven't seen a need to switch yet..

Vortex? Why didn't they finish NMM?

I can manipulate NMM pretty well now, as well as install by hand if i need to.

NMM Mods Tab

I only use mine un-catergorized.

NMM plugins tab can easily change your mod order by hand.

Little more Raw than only depending on a Mod Manager, but i can do much of what I want with this.

If you still use NMM with no problems, feel free to keep using it. It is generally recommended to not use it though. I've also seen a hand full of times where mod authors refuse to give support for people still using NMM. That is just something to keep in mind. More power to you though if you are comfortable where you are. At the end of the day it is all up to preference. I switched from NMM to MO about a year and a half back and I couldn't imagine going back. But that is just me. : )

From what I understand as to why they stopped working on NMM and switched to Vortex is that they wanted to go in a different direction that NMM couldn't support. They wanted something that was between NMM and MO. It involved building a new program from the ground up though.

NMM is still FULLY supported on Github.

That's fine. Not everyone may know about it. In fact, this is my first time learning about it?

Genuine question:

Is the support NMM only or is there support for mods as well? I did state that there are mod authors that refuse to give NMM users support. Personally if I couldn't get mod support, I wouldn't be using it. But that is just me. More power to you if you still want to use it; however I wouldn't recommend it to new users. More experienced users like the user above me are no problem, but they need to be able to trouble shoot their mods on their own if there is no support from mod authors.
