How to "buy" Hjerim

Thinking about all the complaints surrounding this house and how often I've enjoyed using it (despite never actually earning it), I think it's time to create one of these threads. So here goes:

If you find yourself disgusted with what it takes to earn the house in Windhelm, you might consider "buying" it the old fashioned way (i.e. cheating). Here's how:

df48c.disable
df492.disable
df495.disable
df48d.enable
df48e.enable
df48f.enable
df490.enable
df491.enable
df493.enable
df496.enable

The above removes the BotI junk and enables all the house addons. To make the house truly yours:

player.removeitem 0f 50000
setcellownership 16778
player.additem 21679 1
player.additem f1446 1

If you still have lingering Investigation Targets do this:

d55f2.disable
d5625.disable
d5662.disable
d572c.disable
d57c7.disable
d57ef.disable
d57f6.disable
d57f7.disable

And if you insist on having a housecarl:

a2c96.enable

I don't know that the housecarl will actually work (or any followers/spouses), but for just your own use this does work. Just be careful with the weapon racks/displays (as they have been known to "eat" your weapons).

There you go. Simple, right?

EDIT:

How to enable that pesky player chest:

prid 10fd82
enable

And if you care about stats:

Can all those codes be added into a text document and used as a bat batch file?

You can if you want. Let me know how that works.

Shouldn't that be 21000?

I figure the stewards are giving you a serious discount when you buy a house (considering that you're angling to become Thane at least). It doesn't seem too unreasonable to expect to pay full price if you're just some random guy who happened to solve a murder. Of course, use whatever value you think is fair.

Since this is bound to be asked, I'll just go ahead and post my notes on how to do Blood On the Ice:

1) Any time it starts to get late, and you're near Windhelm, it may be Blood On the Ice time. If you fast-travel to Windhelm, and it's between 7pm and 7am, and you see the beggar suddenly disappear, then you know the quest has indeed started. In particular, if find your way into the alleys on the good side of town and see a trail of blood, then you have started this quest.

2) If the guard that normally force-greets you doesn't appear, then do the following:

setstage MS11 10
setstage MS11 20
setstage MS11 30

The above will advance you to the point where you can talk to the steward about helping investigate.

3) Once you get the green light from the steward, you can then go straight to Hjerim. It's faster to pick your way in than to use some other method (though you're welcome to risk it).

4) When you enter Hjerim, you'll then need to pick up at least one pamphlet and a journal (and the strange amulet if you want the dialogue to follow to make any sense). I would also find the other journal, though this is optional.

5) Then go to the steward and ask about the Butcher.

6) If you then find that Viola is unresponsive, do the following:

setstage MS11 76
setstage MS11 80
setstage MS11 90

I'm not sure whether you need 90, but I seem to recall that was necessary the one time I saw that bug.

7) Don't go to the steward. Bad idea. Go to Wuunferth and confront him with the accusation. This will reveal what the amulet is and when the killer intends to strike again. Once this conversation is over, do this:

player.removeitem d2328 1
player.additem c891d 1

This will give you the amulet as identified by Wuunferth (I don't understand why the quest doesn't already do this, anyway).

8. Go to the market and wait. Once the killer appears and pulls out his knife, you can then dispatch the killer whatever way you choose. The problem now is that Arivanya needs to appear, as well. If she doesn't, try doing this:

prid 1b144
moveto f3c79

That should at least get Arivanya to the market. Now, whether the scene commences as it should, I can't really promise (though it should work at this point).

So, you see? No problem. The solution is obvious!

Oooh, nice. Thank you. I'd been thinking of finding a mod to eliminate the vanilla requirements but I'll give this a shot instead. All the bugs are bad enough but, even when it works correctly, you still have to join the Stormcloaks before you can buy the house and I just don't want to do that.
