CTD on loading save (again)

Hello!

In the last days I found the hypothetical problematic file: BattleAftermath.esp. It seemed like I could play the game. The very next day the game refused to load the save. 3-6 seconds in the game just CTDs. No error, nothing. I tried to disable half of my load order (new mods) but, it didn't work. Tried to delete loose files, but no luck.

Did you try making a new save? I mean an entire new one, like start a new game-new

 

Only deleting a problematic mod doesnt necessarily solve a problem. Sometimes a save cant be fixed, is... irreparable .. ?

It's not that of a big problem anyway, my character is not some 100 lvl character, just some low lvl anyway.

Still no idea what causes the CTD on loading the save and starting a new game.

Re-enable all mods, then rebuild bash patch, and click on Skip, when it asks to merge mods.

your Load order is incorrect however. quest mods need high priority, such as 3DNPC (Interesting NPC) but in your load order it has low priority.

 

alternate start, would also require maximum priority, being 1 above Bash Patch

 

All mods that edit leveld lists require high priority, that is apocalypse, diverse dragons, cloaks of skyrim, etc etc

 

House mods do not need high priority, so they can be placed further up in the load order.

 

Place your mods that edit leveled lists, and Quest mods, below your follower mods.

One question though, can I merge them again into bashed patch? or that causes CTDs again? (The only reason I'm asking this because I have quite an extensive load order, that needs more space.)

any mod that is merged in Wrye Bash will gain higher priority then any other mod (because the bash patch must be the very last mod, and since it is the very last mod, all merges it makes, will also now be very last, granting them maximum priority, from a compatibility standpoint, this can be problematic, it really depends on what each and every one of them merge mods do), incorrect load order = conflicts, which results in all sorts of issues, so when merging mods, you are adding another potential to cause issues. especially with large load orders, you really do have to think critically about stuff like this, skyrim is more then happy to crash.

 

i do not recommend merging mods period (because of Load Order, and compatability, which are both very important and go hand in hand). leveled lists is the only thing that should merged, because likewise leveled lists edits require high priority and since bash patch has maximum priority, this is acceptable.

 

however you can try.

 

but if it does not mess up now, their is always chance it will mess up later. skyrim's stability decreases over time, which is why the more serious issues are always much later in game. as the save file gets bigger, the more it is prone to crashing.

 

255 mods is more then enough, and is already a challenge for skyrim, adding more then that, is decreasing potential stability and this will become more apperent later on in the active playthrough.
