Yet another "Volkihar senseless violence" bug thread

Hey guys, so I've run into yet another bug that prevents me from playing through the vampire lord side of the dawnguard questline. I say yet another, because it's the third for me and I'm starting to get deeply disapointed in the DLC. I'd really appreciate any help I can get, cause this one has me kindof stumped.

So I just finished the "beyond death" quest, where i ventured into the soul cairn to get the elderscroll of blood. I came all the way back to tamriel and to castle Volkihar, and now all the vampires attack me! Now I read a lot of threads where people had similar problems, however those were all right after being turned into a vampire lord by harkon. The bug is happening for me much later through the quest progression.

In other cases of this happening, i read that it's due to the game giving you all the vampire's powers and traits, but not actually recognising you as a vampire. It seemed as though the problem was usually fixed by using the player.setrace <character race>racevampire command. This does not work for me QQ. Also, other then player.setrace i also used setplayerrace, dunno if thats significant or not.

So a couple of reasons why this could happen:

- bad code in my installation?

- mod conflict? (i have the most recent version of "better vampires by brehanin" installed. However, this mod has been made compatible with dawnguard and i can't find anything on this being a known bug)

- in order to fix earlier bugs to be able to progress through the quest line, I have been fooling around a lot in the console. I think at one point I actually used "player.setrace darkelfrace" to unvamp me, and then used the same command to turn me into a vampire again. Might this have triggered the volkihar vampire clan to become hostile to me again? I really dont want to actually test this, because my last save before using the command codes was before I started the "chasing echoes" quest (so it would take me several hours playing through the abandoned section of castle volkihar and the soul cairn, not to mention having to fix previous bugs i ran into again)?

is this fixable by some kind of command line to make the vamps friendly again? Or by any other means?

Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

P.S. I also noticed that NONE of my saves post-dawnguard-vampire-ification have my race + vampire in the discription. They all say just dark elf, even in the saves where the vamps aren't hostile yet.

P.P.S. something else which might be significant: I read that if you arent a vampire yet when entering the soul cairn, Serana will give you the option of getting vamped by her. I didnt get that, which seems to suggest (at least to my limited understanding of coding), that the game recognises me as a vampire already.

Bump!

Also: http://elderscrolls.wikia.com/wiki/Console_Commands_(Skyrim) Here it says that after using "setplayerrace" commands some number of times, the game will for some reason reset the player's race to what it originally was at the start of the game. Might this be what has happened? because even tho I have all the abilities of a vampire, the game seems to not recognise me as one.

Wish I could answer this for you, because I've had the exact same problem. At least I know I'm not the only one. The only workaround I've found is to save my game before entering the hall, then if they're hostile, reload from that save, then go do something else and come back in a few days. That usually fixes it for me, at least temporarily. I use the better vampires mod, too.

thats an interesting suggestion dukesilver, might be worth a try. I hope that would fix it for me as well. Gonna try it, although it would be annoying if the vamps still attacked me after returning after several days...

You could just go somewhere, then rest for 24 hours a few times in a row. I think it has something to do with "cells" resetting--I've mentioned this issue to brehanin in the comments for his mod, and though he doesn't know what the issue is, that's something he guessed. He said he'd look into it.

Also, I forgot to mention that I'm pretty sure it has to do with being a stage 4 vampire. A couple of times I've been stage 3 while in the castle, everything's going fine, then when I turn to stage 4 they go crazy. One time, I hid in a corner, turned on "Reveal Auras," then saw their auras change from blue to that orange-red (I'm colorblind--whatever it is) color when I transitioned to stage 4. In that case, I was okay if I drank a potion of blood right before the transition occurred. They've only been hostile to me at stage 4.

They aggro even when I have better vampires set so that people are friendly regardless of your stage of vampirism, as it is by default in DG anyway.

If you find a solution, definitely post it here. I'll do the same.

Per Brahanin in the comments section for his mod: "That seems to be a Dawnguard bug and not one caused by my mod. I have been reading up on it too. Bethesda seems to have released a shaky DLC ..."

I actually did find some xbox user complaining about a similar issue (forgot to bookmark that page), so it does sound like it's more an issue with DG and not necessarily related to the mod. Wonder if there will be a fix for this soon.
