Since Vortex upgrade - doesn't log in to Nexus Account

Hello,

Since the latest Vortex upgrade on the 10th April 2019, when it starts a message comes up:

The operating system has reported an error without details when accessing "D:\Launcher\Bethesda.net_Launcher.exe" This is usually due the user's environment and not a bug in Vortex.

Before upgrade there wasn't a problem and the Bethesda.net Launcher was installed. I have to cancel the message, as retry has no effect. When Vortex loads it is not connected to my Nexus Account, nor will it connect when I try.

Chris

Could you provide more details on the error when logging in?

I'm guessing you're managing Morrowind?

Is D:\Launcher on a network drive of some kind? If so are you certain you have full permissions to that drive and that no anti-virus software is interfering with file operations?

It's worth noting that path I have for Bethesda launcher is {InstallPath}\Bethesda.net Launcher\BethesdaNetLauncher.exe

I'm not OP but I'm having the same exact issue as OP after updating to .18.12 from a much older (around a year ago) version of Vortex.

My drive is an external hard drive and the letter of the drive changed after I updated my OS to Windows 10 version 1903. Instead of G drive, now it is the H drive. The rest of the path has remained the same.

The problem here is that I did a complete uninstall (or so I thought I did) of Vortex and related files but upon reinstalling the app and launching it again, the same message appeared. I cleared out everything in AppData\Roaming and AppData\Local, as well as everything in ProgramData, Program Files, related folders, etc. before installing and the message still appears. If I hit cancel, everything proceeds as normal with Vortex. I've also tried running Vortex without any Anti-Virus on and I've tried messing with the download directory. Nothing seems to fix this and it's driving me insane. Any help?

It sounds like your Registry has some entries pointing to the old drive.

I don't know what all the implications are, but you can change the drive letter back like you had it.

Open the Run window, then type mmc.

Under File, Add / Remove Snapin.

Select Disk Management.

All your disks will be shown.

Select your H drive.

Right mouse on it and select Drive letter and paths.

Change it back to G.

I can't emphasize enough these are dangerous actions. Don't do it unless you are confident in what you are doing.

I bear no responsibility if your computer catches fire...

I would do that but then it screws me with other apps that use data on that drive that I've reconfigured since updating Windows. Like I could do it but all the work involved in going back to re-add the appropriate directory would be a pain in the but. Is this really a registry issue? Why would those directories be saved within a registry? I mean it would explain why I'm not finding that directory written in any file on my computer but it seems extremely odd to hold old directories that way. And then you can't fix issues like this.

UPDATE: You were right, it was running off of the TESO registry record that had recorded the old install directory from when I initially installed the game. I haven't run TESO since updating to 1903 so I'm wondering if that's why it was never corrected. I get what you meant now in terms of reading the registry for an install location. Actually clever method of preemptively reading for installed games without scanning the whole file system.

Thanks for the clue, I checked and corrected the registry entry. Booted up vortex and issue is gone!
