0086(01)086: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: RETURN TO HIZALIBRARYCITY

It was semidarkness but there were plenty of lights enough to see by including two half moons.

Jadekin and Shakira materialized in a version of the Imperial City but not one that belonged to any human based empire. Around them fighting was going on as humans, Mer, goblins and other mortals fought against very bizarre attackers. The dancing dead jerked, jumped, hopped, twisted, whirled, jabbed, kicked and lashed out with terrible speed plus power. The defenders shot the attackers with quasimagical weapons, with shortbows, with crossbows and even exotic musket-guns that fired off elemental projectiles.

They were in the HizaLibraryCity again but not the main city but a satellite zone that itself was inside a ring wall. Something had smashed open a big armored gate reinforced with quasimagical bars and magical wards. Through the gateway were rushing the distorted, horrific former mortals that were the dancing dead. They were naked, anything that they had worn being long gotten rid off by the distorted changes to their bodies or their insane dancing movement.

Jadekin summoned forth ten hulking steel golems, each armed with a great sword and shield or a great battlehammer and shield or a great big blastergun or a great battleaxe and shield or a great metallic staff. The steel golems moved fairly slowly but the dancing dead had no effect on them, striking them and being thrown back.

Two dancing dead, once an orc woman and a human male teenager, and began to drag the victim away. Shakira sliced off one head and the other. The dancing dead began to dance even crazier, smashing into other dancing dead hizazombies but then, suddenly, collapsed dead. Even as they died, they burned away into nothingness.

Jadekin shot darts from her bladeshield even as the two steel golems, with blasterguns, blew away dancing dead after dancing dead. The defenders had been losing, had been apparently taken by surprise by the sudden smashing open of the gate, but now they had a chance to rally their forces and were taking advantage of it. Musket-rifles fired off elemental fire projectiles that caused dancing dead head to erupt horribly. Arrows and bolts struck the creatures, apparently coated with some kind of substance that damaged the dancing dead, that slowed them down to make them easier targets for others.

The steel golems got to the big gate and, putting away weapons, began to push it closed again. The blast had swung it open but the gate was still largely intact. The dancing dead were either pushed back or they were trapped, isolated, inside the walls. The gate crashed into place and the ten steel golems froze into place, holding it closed as hundreds of the dancing dead smashed against it.

The last of the dancing dead, inside the gate, was killed and burned away. The rescued orc woman killed the last one with a battleaxe, chopping of its neck which was a quickly effective way of dealing with such creatures.

The cleaning up was focused on dealing with wounded, or dead, defenders. Thankfully there were only two dead and five wounded, most only lightly. After some quick reinforcements were put on the gate, Shakira unsummoned the steel golems.

Jadekin met with the leadership of the place they called the FreeSanctuary that was not only surrounded by a wall but was topped with an invisible dome of defensive energies. When it rain, when water was needed, the dome had to be turned off but otherwise it stopped other threats from getting into the FreeSanctuary.

0087(01)087: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: GOOD NEWS, GIVING AND TRADE OFFS

=-=You are now gaining five fategamecredit per second, 25 fategame-points per 100 seconds, 25 spinlings per 1,000 seconds and seven wishlings per every 10,000 seconds. You are also gaining two pulseling per second, two phaseling per second, two summonling per second. Changes: you are now gaining one wish, one chance and one spin every twenty-four hours. Additions: you are now gaining five tradecredit, 10 listcredit and one fatecredit per second.

Fategame resources were getting more complicated or so it seemed. Jadekin knew not to take such matters by their face value. Tradecredit and fatecredit would be needed for special purposes, would need to be accumulated carefully. Listcredit was simply a bonus way of obtaining listed items; in the past fategamecredit had been used for such but now the use of listcredit would mean saving the use of fategamecredit for other matters, hopefully.

Jadekin used up a chance, a challenge and a spin, in Fategame terms, along with some other Fategame resources traded off. The FreeSanctuary became stronger defensively, the dome was now able to operate even as it allowed rain through, walls and gates became fully repaired and stronger, new semi-enclosed guard-towers appeared, other facilities appeared and so did a Waygate linking the place to Jadekinaria but not to EvaLaketown. This time the Waygate went to a new Security Safety Quarantine Zone that was actually, for most, a large comfortable town. Yet the Waygate would operate with some limitations thanks to the difficulties of keeping, a strong secure Waygateway between the two Waygates. A steady stream, not a flood, of convoys would go to TransDomain Jadekinaria, some of them taking more resources than people. Resources would also come from Jadekinaria and the irony was that this exchange made the Waygateway more stable and efficient.

The third Baseline WhirlaKey gained, and given over to the FateLords, was easy done. A grateful leadership, of the FreeSanctuary, passed it over. It was the First Baseline WhirlaKey, of the Second Base Thirteen Whirlakeys. There was only a vague story of how the WhirlaKey had ended up in the HizaLibraryCity. How it ended up in the FreeSanctuary was when a salvage team, daring to go into another part of the city, had found it amongst the dead remains of a large group. They had found much valuable loot with the unfortunate entities, a mixture of humans and others of Tamriel.

=-=There is a good chance you will never learn how this last WhirlaKey got here in the HizaLibraryCity.

Jadekin was not sure how important it was to learn such matters. Perhaps it was best if she remained focused on just what she needed to know. Problem was, what was it that she actually needed to know?

=-=Very good news, Fategame wise! The TransDomain of Jadekinaria is starting to expand at one centimetre, in all directions, per second. That is one metre every 1,000 seconds. More information is available about the Quests you have attained, about their background. Do you wish to activate your Fategame Challenge to lead to a Challenge Quest that will obtain valuable resources of some kind? The Challenge Quest will be pertinent to what is happening here, now!

Jadekin=Have it commence, then!

=-=Your Challenge Quest is to find out what faction, what traitors, are behind the sabotage of the FreeSanctuary Main Gate that led to its blasting open; also the attracting of many of the dancing dead by some dark manner of magic.

It had been a puzzle that Jadekin would have wanted to solve anyway and it was a bonus that doing so would give her some extra gains.

0088(01)088: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: AN INTERESTING DISCUSSION

“Sage ZezkindaDa came here to FreeSanctuary some days ago from the rest of the HizaLibraryOvercity that is dominated by demonars and demoninoes though there are also many slaves and treacherous demonic followers. They are the ZataticTruth, twisted and deluded followers of the Devil Zatanfer who is leader of the demoninoes and demonars. It seems Zatanfer has use for mortal followers who are not willingly possessed or absorbed by demoninoes.” The one speaking was an aged woman named Perisja, being part dwen of the Dwemer and part human. “Sage ZezkindaDa is, himself, the insane mortal leader of the ZataticTruth Cult.”

Perisja was a handsome mature woman wearing light metal reinforce leather armor. She was one of the Elders of the Leadership Council of FreeSanctuary. She was light brown of skin and dark brown of hair.

“Insane leaders tend to go well with such cults.” Shakira responded, the three of them sitting in a small council antechamber in the partly damaged Leadership Hall. “Unfortunately, they tend to be brilliant insane geniuses.”

Outside of the Leadership Hall was a growing crowd of angry people. They were calling out for 'justice' that meant, in this case, the hanging of Perisja. The reasoning was that Perisja's husband and daughter were both suffering from the Whirling Sickness, that Perisja had been seen by a reliable witness bargaining with the evil Sage ZezkindaDa for the lives of her children. The story went that Perisja made the gate explode open to let the secretly gathered dancing dead to flood into the FreeSanctuary.

“I did not betray the people of the FreeSanctuary and would not do so, even for the sake of my husband and child. Sage ZezkindaDa did not stay very long here before we kicked him out and I never met with him alone.” Perisja looked exhausted and sad. “After all that I have done for these people, they have turned upon me.”

Jadekin shook her head. “They are under dark influence of some kind. Sage ZezkindaDa has a WhirlaKey, which is at least a Baseline WhirlaKey. It would greatly increase his power, if he was foolish enough to use it for that, but at heavy cost to himself. He may have come here but not actually departed, only influenced people with powerful illusions so that they assumed that he had done so. Then he could have sabotaged the Main Gate of FreeSanctuary after drawing the dancing dead to the gate. The WhirlaKey could well allow him to do this or he might have used other means.”

Perisja nodded rapidly. “Yes, that is what must have happened with that Secondary WhirlaKey of his.”

Jadekin sighed. “Never said it was a Secondary WhirlaKey so how did you know? I suggest that you go to the TransDomain of Jadekinaria, along with your husband and daughter. Those suffering the Whirling Sickness should be cured by the rejuvenation process of going through the Waygateway. Once there you can make amends for your attempt to betray your people.”

Perisja frowned heavily. “What I did was evil and I do not know why I did it.”

Jadekin nodded, smiled lightly. “We 'sense' your mind has been manipulated, your deep fears used against you, or we would not be sending you to Jadekinaria.”

Perisja smiled very much. “I would love to go to Jadekinaria.”

Which was when Jadekin drew out her glowing longsword and cut off Perisja's head.

0089(01)089: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: SURPRISES AND CHANGES

It was not the headless body of Perisja that lay on the floor, wound cauterized by the glowing sword blade, but the headless body of Sage ZezkindaDa. Jadekin took up the Secondary WhirlaKey, more powerful than a Baseline WhirlaKey and identical to the one that once had been delivered to the Fake Emperor Uriel Septum VII. It vanished with a sparkling shimmer, the FateLords reclaiming it.

=-=Congratulations, you have both successfully completed the Challenge Quest and gained your first Secondary WhirlaKey for the FateLords. Now you have regained for them one Secondary and three Baseline WhirlaKeys of the same set of thirteen. The following changes have taken place: the Waygateway between FreeSanctuary and Jadekinaria has been strengthened, stabilized and made more secure, safer, in other ways. The Cleansing of this corrupted, unstable realm has begun along with the salvaging of all natural that can be salvaged from it. You have gained nine wishes, three grand wishes and one great wish but it would be dangerous to try to use too many of them at once or for the wrong reasons.

Jadekin=There are, I take it, other areas with lifeforms at risk from the various antinatural, and unnatural, threats. I would spend enough Fategame resources to create at least three more, very secure and stable, Waygateways between this damned realm and Jadekinaria. That is a Jadekinaria that is now expanding steadily, as a globe.

=-=You can do this but there will be a penalty for you will not be able to access any Fategame Resources until further notice. If you still want to go ahead, then three more FreeSanctuaries will be added with ring-walls, domes and underground barriers as this one now also has obtained.

Jadekin realized she was taking a risk but something deep inside of her wanted her to save what was salvageable from the realm that should never have existed in the first place.

Jadekin=HizaSoulbooks?

=-=They will be dealt with but I do not know how.

Jadekin=Have it done, penalties or no penalties!

A great shivering, shimmering, sparkling went through everything, including them. It went for about fifteen minutes and then, abruptly, stopped. Nothing obvious had changed but both Shakira and Jadekin 'sensed' that this was far from true.

=-=I am quite astonished by what has taken place. It was far more than I was led to believe would happen and far more than I led you to believe would happen. All of the HizaLibrary realm has been shifted, transformed, and become a TransDomain in its own right. It is now stable and secure. Not all is good for the HizaLibraryComplex still exists but now away from here and is in a HizaLibraryCity well away from there. The dancing dead are there also as are other such threats. An ocean divides this land mass from the land mass that holds the Hiza and other threats. There are now four FreeSanctuaries and each has a Waygateway linking it to the TransDomain of Jadekinaria.

They went to a window and looked out to find they were no longer in the FreeSanctuary but were in a satellite area of the HizaLibraryCity as emptied of people along with other lifeforms and things that had been with them. The dome was gone from above the ring-wall and over it came hizazombies but not of the dancing dead kind; no, these were bizarrely armored soldiers armed with a strange array of quasimagical weapons be they bladespears, long curving sickleswords or crossbow like boxbows. There were hundreds of them and they bore the symbol of the HizaCollective. They did not seem friendly!

0090(01)090: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: AVOIDING ENEMIES OF ENEMIES

Jadekin and Shakira moved quickly away from where the HizaCollective hizazombies were coming over part of the ring-wall. They soon reached an open gateway leading into a semiwilderness forest area, an overgrown forest grove garden with the broken remains of flagstone footpaths, vine wrapped statues and other structures. In the semidarkness they need to be a little more careful even with their greyish tinged night vision but they also had more concealment from enemies.

They soon began to hear the muffled noises of battle, of quasimagical weapons at work, of explosions and others unmistakable. As the two ran, darting between trees and large bushes, avoiding elegantly carved bench-seats and rail-fences, Jadekin realized she was unable to use any arcane magic. It was gone from her.

=-=I was going to inform you of that: you have gained new abilities that are going stronger and you can not have both them and intrinsic arcane magic. New abilities are now evident to you.

The new abilities were much like the arcane spell-powers she had once had but were weaker though growing steadily stronger. Jadekin did not consider the swap to be a great one, at least not at that moment. Still she had many useful devices and other resources in her inventory.

=-=Your inventory is sealed off until further notice. Some older abilities have remained and remain quite strong, like transduplication and teleportation.

Jadekin slowed and so did Shakira. Then Jadekin was sure of what she had glimpsed, that is a metal utility-hatch in the ground. They opened it easily enough, closing it behind themselves after dropping down into a moderate sized utility tunnel. Dwemer language showed on sign boards and there were helpful arrows along with basic information symbols.

They rushed along the tunnel as quietly as they could. The WhirlaFinder was still recharging and was not ready to use again to take them close to another WhirlaKey. The tunnel stopped at a door and when they opened this, it slid quietly to one side, they were confronted by an incredible sight.

It was a great big, dimly lit, chamber that stretched into the distance and it was a raging battleground between armored-armed demonars and armored-armed hizazombies. The monsters were raging, in barely controlled chaos, across the tumbled, structure dotted floor. The place was a huge Dwemer designed and built facility that hummed softly, ignoring the battle, behind heavy armored layers. Twisted creatures died terribly on both sides. Energies flashed. There were explosions. Yet most of the fighting seemed to be more primitive with slashing, stabbing, bashing and other direct physical attacks. There were hundreds, if not thousands, of foes but it was very difficult to see just how many in the craziness and dimness of the huge chamber.

It appeared, by the symbols glimpsed, that the HizaCollective was fighting the ZataticTruth, being two powerfully evil insane cults waging war on one another. Just why they were doing so remained a mystery but Jadekin had no doubt that it was somehow linked to the WhirlaKeys and the Whirla of Fate.

They went back some distance, found a utility-hatch leading to an even smaller tunnel, and followed it along for a time until they came out into a great hallway. It was clean, it was deadly quiet, it was dotted with great archways and statues of Dwemer dwen mythological, quasimythological and historical entities. Amongst the statues were stacked many thousands of HizaSoulbooks in an almost tidy fashion. A strange electromechanical entity was busy taking more HizaSoulbooks from a small metal push-cart and adding them to a stack. It was a blue colored, gracefully chunky humanoid.

0091(01)091: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: NOT ALL ARE DANGEROUS

They moved along the hallway. The HizaLibraryClerk whirled and confronted them. Then it spoke in Dwemer dwen language but calmly. “You should not be here. If the wrong HizaLibrarians find you here, they will turn you into HizaSoulbooks. I, myself, follow the programming-conditioning guidance of the Friendly Library Society that welcomes all and finds that it is most ill mannered to turn good library readers into HizaSoulbooks.”

The pair had 'sensed' no danger in the entity and so had approached.

Shakira spoke. “So not all HizaLibrarians are dangerous.”

The HizaLibraryClerk responded. “All are now dangerous to some degree but far from all follow the corrupted programming-conditioning guidance of the HizaLibraryCore. Really, very most ill mannered to cause readers to suffer such terrible forms of death. I blame that on our severe drop in library attendance numbers from over one billion to absolute zero. Really, it causes no great confidence in a loyal library employee. The Friendly Library Society does what it can to save readers from such a terrible fate. We have well secured, well hidden status-pods that we can place you in until matters greatly improve. I am JJJ01211.”

Shakira spoke again. “What are you doing with the HizaSoulbooks?”

JJJ01211 responded. “JJJ02221 is coming soon with a AntiHizagun, a device designed to destroy a HizaSoulbook quickly and mercifully, destroying also the hizazombie linked with it. Thus a soul is freed to return to the natural life death cycle. Oh oh oh, JJJ02221 is late and I fear that she may have stumbled into a patrol of negative library employees, most likely HizaLibraryClerks. There are hizadrones and hizadroids out there but we can negate them, switching them off for a short time duration.”

There was a humming-hissing noise of a pulselasergun firing and another HizaLibraryClerk was soon rushing towards them as quickly as it could, that is at a moderate speed on its thick double jointed legs. Behind her, at a distance, appeared five more HizaLibraryClerks but they were red colored, not blue, and they carried each a big weapon of a heavy metallic spikeclub. The blue HizaLibraryClerk fired off a low powered pulselasergun from a shoulder but it had no real effect on the enemy. It seemed design to deal perhaps with dangerous vermin.

=-=Your inventory is now accessible!

Yet Jadekin had another idea. She took the strange, bulky rifle like AntiHizagun from JJJ02221, the HizaLibraryClerks did not seem to mind her doing so, and aimed them at the red HizaLibraryClerks. Then, even as they kept charging wildly, at a moderate speed, she shot each with a glowing, sparkling pulsebeam of energies. Each struck entity at once collapsed, becoming semiactive, and turned from red to blue in color.

From each dropped HizaLibraryClerk Jadekin extracted a destroyed HizaSoulgem, a burned crystal-flesh globe with a tail coming out of it that narrowed until it became a tail, almost like a ghastly version of a tadpole. So the HizaLibraryClerks were controlled by HizaSoulgems. Was that true for other HizaLibraryEntities?

JJJ01211 spoke. “Since using the AntiHizagun on the other HizaLibraryClerks did not hurt them, we can use them to free other such entities. Maybe such might work on HizaLibraryAssistants or even on HizaLibrarians. I am amazed but the promising promise of it all but we only have three such guns.”

0092(01)092: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: MEETING MORE FOLKS

The seven free HizaLibraryClerks took Jadekin, and Shakira, through the complex until they were moving through areas of ancient books in book shelf slots filling walls in front of semi-enclosed balconies. The books were protected by softly shimmering fields of energy. While most of such books, and other items, were of Dwemer dwen origin, a large minority came from other peoples, other civilizations, including human ones as well as those of other Mer.

They came to a Friendly Library Society Complex where a tall, angular HizaLibrarian confronted them with a cool smile and a mildly stern lecture. “Please keep reasonable quiet, respect the books, try to steal nothing and try to keep away from those who would convert you into HizaSoulbooks.”

The complex was quite big and Dwemer people lived there, generations having survived there for many centuries. For reasons to do with the HizaLibraryCore programming-conditioning, such complexes remained free. The Dwemer there numbered only about fifty-five. Any given complex could only sustain a small population so sometimes complexes would swap folks to keep the general genetic pool strong. There had also been some interbreeding with other kinds of Mer, with humans, with orcs and some others.

These people not only knew about the MentaCollective, they were an offshoot of the MentaCollective. One KarlHaga, part dwen and part human, came to meet the pair. He was a kind of combination elder and trouble-shooter. KarlHaga had been helping to formulate plans to wipe out the evil of the HizaLibraryComplex and other evils related with it. Now they were also facing demonic threats of demoninoes, demonars and perhaps even damans, mortal demonfolk.

Yet KarlHaga knew of other matters of importance such as how the HizaLibrary Realm had come into existence and it was not a 'nice' story. He did have some good news though. Over two thirds of the people that had been in the realm, along with most other life, had escaped from the coming evil. How this had happened, where they had gone, was something that KarlHaga did not know.

They had a meal of dull flavored foodballs and lightly flavored cool water in a great big commonroom. People were busy at various projects. Electromagnetic pulse guns, EMPguns, were being assembled in one corner. They knocked out the less dangerous hizadrones and hizadroids easily but had less effect on the more powerful, sophisticated HizaLibraryEntities.

=-=You have regained access to your Fategame resources.

Jadekin=[/i]Was that some kind of test?[/i]

=-=I do not know for sure but no, I do not think so. Same as for your inventory being sealed up for a while. No, something else was happening, something very serious. As it is all of your Fategame resources have been doubled as has the carrying capacity and other abilities of your inventory, of your FategameRings and FategameBracelets. I suggest that you utilize them more than you have been doing. You can transform certain kinds of entities, things, in some circumstances but with limitations, of course.

Jadekin materialized many goods from the expanded basic list and the, now, expanded armor-arms list. For now it also had quasimagical bowguns, bladeguns, bows, crossbows, horse armor and some other items such as ammunition for the projectile weapons. Now there were also such as maintenance and repair kits. She used listcredit so as to save fategamecredit for other uses. She transduplicated a large, damaged container of damaged items and got three rejuvenated containers, of rejuvenated items, in return. The MentaCollective was greatly assisted by these gifts.

0093(01)093: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: TALKING AND DOING

Jadekin converted the seven HizaLibraryClerks into RozaLibraryClerks, 'Roza' being the name they should have actually appeared with in the first place. These RozaLibraryClerks were enhanced, augmented and had some special extra tricks. Each could now safely destroy HizaSoulbooks, and other HizaSoulDevices, though with some limitations to these abilities. The HizaLibrarian was hesitant at first but upon observing the changes to the 'clerks' she became the first RozaLibrarian. She was also enhanced, augmented and had some special extra tricks.

It was ironic that it was only then that Jadekin really began to think of her role as a FategamePlayer and its impact on her life (lives?). She realized that she had simply been far too busy to stop and consider such matters and also others also. Who, what, was she really? Was she really Jadekin Strongvar of Shellinza MonGomaVia, Inheritor of the One, the Two and the Three of the VestisVantis. Lady of the Dragonborn Mageborn. Inheritor of the Guardian Banecrawtisi. Fifteenth Dethroned Empress of the Imperius Skylands. Swordmaiden of the Flame. Shieldmaiden of the Ice. Winner of the best crayon drawing at the Imperial Children's School at the age of five?

Why had the three Alternate Tamriels, of the Empire, appeared? Why were two of them variations of the Septum Dynasty based Empire and one of them a very different Empire, of the evil daman based Sabtur Empire? Were there other Alternate Tamriels out there yet to be discovered by Jadekin, that she would end up traveling to? There were other questions that she wanted answering. One was why did the fact, that she had won a 'best crayon drawing at the Imperial Children's School at the age of five', keep coming up?

KarlHaga gave her a gift of a WhirlaKey but it was a False WhirlaKey though excellently created and quite powerful though nowhere near as powerful as the real thing. It vanished with a soft sparkling shimmer as the FateLords claimed it from her. KarlHaga had no idea where it had come from, originally, or who or what had created it. He had heard whispers of the existence of False WhirlaKeys but stated, truthfully, that he did not have the ability to detect the difference between 'real' and 'false' artifacts of that kind.

They spoke of the amazing changes that had taken place to the realm. KarlHaga's people had detected something big had changed, it was hard not to do so, but had no idea what. He was amazed to know that the whole realm had been altered and had become a TransDomain. It was good news to know there were now safer areas of that Alternate Tamriel that were clear of such threats as the HizaLibrarians and the dancing dead.

KarlHaga stood at a table and examined a map of the HizaLibraryComplex, including the safe zones where his people were safe but trapped. The rather craggy, part Mer of a man, pointed to various spots in the complex. “There may be TeleportGates in these locations that could be linked with the new safer parts of this realm. Through such TeleportGateways my people might find escape to those safer zones.”

Then he frowned softly. “There is a problem. Some of our people have become touched by dark influences, most likely out of fear, despair but just as likely out of greed. There are traitors amongst us or, perhaps even worse, creatures that have replaced some of our people.”

“It is hard to say which is worse, of those two.” Shakira responded dryly. “All who go through a TeleportGateway will have to go through a testing. Anyway the TeleportGates that activate fully will not let through such as demons or the undead. Any traitors, dealing with dark forces, will gain a residue of dark energies that any such testing will pick up. There are also other ways, in the testings, to detect such people.”
