0062(01)062: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: GOBLINFOLK KNOWLEDGE

Jadelegs got the goblems, with the assistance of some juicy snacks and extra hugging, to tell her more about the Game of the Magic Shop. The goblems did not know how the game had started except that it had been taught to their ancestors by a tall man in a long hooded robe. With the game had come a story. He had been very kind and had told them one day they would meet a woman with strange legs who would be very nice to them; they were to trust her and go with her to a new, happier, less stinky place to live; there they would have much nicer things to eat. Goblins and hoblins had picked up on the stories, hence many had also gravitated towards Jadelegs.

There were extra parts to the story as held by the StoryKeepers of goblems, hoblins and goblins. There were five such StoryKeepers in the TransGlobeShaiVa and, of them, one was specialized in that one story. The goblin came to Jadelegs in her hooded robe dotted with small polished bones tied to its rough fabric. They met in a big garden domechamber.

Saggisnootik, the goblin, bowed and then spoke. “The extra parts of the story were not so simple, not so exciting and were not so easily put into the game. Grahamaharg gave us much but also the game and the big story that we broke down also into the small story. The big story has details hard for many goblinfolk to understand and they get bored. The story says that a StoryKeeper must come with others to a sanctuary offered by you and wait for you to approach that one; only then can the long story be related to you.”

“In this very place, in a hidden reflection zone both outside and inside this place, you will find a WhirlaGate. This will open to the WhirlaPath, actually one of many that make up the WhirlaMaze. You must find your way through the WhirlaMaze and to another WhirlaGate that will take you into the Magic Shop. You must find something called a WhirlaGateFinder and something else called a WhirlaGateKey. You do not have to be you that goes. A WhirlaDetector will help as would a WhirlaMazeMap and a WhirlaCompass.”

Saggisnootik bowed again. “We goblinfolk have been searching the Undercity of this great place, we have charted much of the Underways and the cave systems. We have been finding information to present you with when this moment came. We have found a place where things do not add up properly. There are tunnels and chambers that look, smell, sound normal but do not 'feel' right to us goblinfolk. If we found caves that 'felt' this way, we would call them magical or spirit haunted or something that is to be wary of, careful with.”

Jadelegs realized that she had not spent much time, or effort, exploring the TransGlobeShaiVa. She based herself in the original Prime Chamber with its floating disk-bed and other facilities. There she slept, meditated, studied and did other things. At other times she visited the small domeland where she spent time with goblinfolk and a few others who dwelt there.

Saggisnootik smiled. “We found artifacts and totems. We left them where we found them. We found the big boned man in armor, the painted caves, the other painted caves and the waters that bubble strangely. We found creatures that are unlike any we have found before. We found a Man with no face, a Woman with no clothes who floats but is no ghost and a big cave room of treasures plus another big cave chamber with treasures. We found stone places older than this place, much deeper. We found mushroom-trees growing in a big domechamber, bigger than this one, with strange beasties that frightened us. We found a statue of you, at least it looks like you, but it is very big and very grand. It is in a big great chamber with much stone, many statues and strange mechanisms. Then some of us vanished and we decided to have the goblems speak the game close to you so you would question and we could then speak of this to you. Now you can go find our vanished goblinfolk.” She bowed yet again. “Oh wondrous one of the amazing legs.”

0063(01)063: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: MEETING MORE FOLK

“He used the WhirlaKey to project the illusion of people, of a thriving community but something did not 'feel' right about it, at least not for me.” Jadekin looked around at the great chamber. “Now there are two Baseline WhirlaKeys returned to the FateLords of one set of them. People have not lived here for a very long time.”

Baurus frowned. “Something seemed odd to me also. The people were very busy but none of them seemed to notice that we existed. The dogs did not react to us. Nobody looked at us. There was great violence here.”

Shakira nodded in obvious agreement. “I suggest we move before the Twisted Eternal Guardian returns, perhaps with some others to assist him.”

Baurus shook his head. “Who, what, could corrupt such powerful beings as Eternals?”

“The TwistedGod! It was the TwistedGod that did so as it has done so much other evil.” Jadekin began to move and the others followed. They traveled through what was supposed to be a Safe Zone but it did not feel safe. They passed ancient Dwemer quasimagical mechanisms but most were either inactive or only semiactive. They found an active vending-machine of limited range of items and slow regeneration of supplies. Foodballs, water-globes, basic robes, towel-blankets, light-glowers, healing-globes and other items were provided free but others had to be paid for.

They were eating exotic dull tasting foodballs and drinking cool, clean water from water-globes when they 'sensed' newcomers approaching fast. Then there were six Dwemer, dwens, and five others of assorted peoples. They came in odd robetunics of light, flexible armor and carried quasimagical weapons of zipdarters, shock-rods and bladetookas. They came to a wary halt and a dwen man stepped forward to speak in an ancient tongue that only Baurus did not understand.

“Would you block our access to the vending-machine? We would take what it promises for our people, fill our backpacks with what the machine gives freely of.” The Dwemer man sniffed the air. “You do not smell of the rotting of the dancing dead. No, you are alive. In this area is a dangerous one, a very powerful mad creature who projects illusions, who manipulates the minds of people with an ancient artifact of power. I suggest you be careful of that one.”

“There was a tall figure who had a WhirlaKey but we hurt him and took the artifact. It is gone now to where it is safely stored. The wounded one fled but he has much less power now than he did for he has lost his WhirlaKey.” Shakira spoke. “Is that the one you speak of?”

The Mer nodded. “It sounds like the dangerous one. If so you have done us a great service in reducing his threat. We must move soon. The walking dead, the zombies, are active in the area. If they become too active in an area then the HizaLibrarians strike at that place, sending in hizadrones, hizadroids or even HizaLibraryClerks or even HizaLibraryAssistants. If they find us, they will convert our essence into HizaSoulbooks leaving our bodies behind as the dancing dead, those bodies being dumped into the semiwilderness outside of the HizaLibraryCity proper. The dancing dead come back to the library city, almost as if driven to find their essences.”

Baurus shrugged. “We have zombies to deal with, in our Tamriel. They are not so hard to kill.”

The Dwemer shuddered. “The dancing dead are no mere zombies, are much harder to deal with. We must hurry and get what we can to fill our backpacks. Hopefully you have not taken too much. I do not mean to be rude but we need all resources that we can get for our peoples.”

0064(01)064: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: MEETING THE MENTACOLLECTIVE

=-=You can use fategamecredit to buy items from the Dwemer vending-machine.

Jadekin bought all she could from the vending-machine and gave them to the local people, who called themselves the MentaCollective. The Dwemer man, KalizakinDa, was most pleased by the gift but wary also. It took some convincing to get him to believe that neither Jadekin or her people wanted anything in return. So the locals gained basic quasimagical tools, weapons and other devices along with some minor luxuries that they could use raise the morale of their peoples. One paid for device was a kind of fold-up handcart and into bought handcarts were heaped goods, both free and paid for.

They set out and were soon moving away from the library proper. The Twisted Eternal Guardian had spoken mostly the truth about the general situation. The HizaLibrary had turned upon the Dwemer and other people in the HizaLibraryCity, the HizaLibraryCore going seemingly insane. Survivors in the HizaLibraryCity had managed to reach the Safe Zones but that area was not a Safe Zone, far from it; the Twisted Eternal Guardian had very much lied about that. Nor had he mentioned the dancing dead, also known as the hizazombies. There were other threats also such as bandits and predators but the most menacing were the dancing dead; the others ran from them.

They moved quickly but both Jadekin and Shakira 'sensed' growing threat. They encountered a swarm of giant rats but the rats were busy fleeing, taking their young with them, and had no desire to fight anybody. The rats were going into secondary ways too small for the dancing dead to be comfortably in. It turned out they did 'dance' in a very disturbing, strange manner. They jerked, jumped, whirled and darted so the hizazombies tended to stay away from smaller spaces for they bashed into walls or even ceilings. Even the rats had learned to flee to such areas when the dancing dead showed up.

The noise of the dancing dead drifted to them first, a strange smattering of feet on the floor, a strange series of grunting growling noises that went with it, sounding of a mixture of agony, rage and hunger.

=-=Fategame resources expanded, enhanced, augmented. You are now gaining two fategamecredit per second, 15 fategame-points per 100 seconds, 15 spinlings per 1,000 seconds and five wishlings per every 10,000 seconds. You are also gaining one pulseling per second, one phaseling per second, one summonling per second. Added is the Secondary Quest to Eliminate all of the HizaSoulbooks, HizaSoulkeys, HizaSoulglobes and HizaSoulgems.

The group was moving through large tunnels, the rats had gone a way too small for them to go, and they were still some kilometres from the nearest Safe Zone. Suddenly, there came the sounds of some kind of battle taking place, the sizzling-hiss of energy weapons, the noise of explosions, strange screaming ranting noises. They came from the same direction as had the noises of the dancing dead.

KalizakinDa grinned. “HizaLibrarian forces have struck at the dancing dead. By the sound of it not just hizadrones and hizadroids but even HizaLibraryClerks. Yes, there is at least one HizaLibraryAssistant there. One learns to identify unique sounds to each kind of quasimagical robotic device. We can take advantage and move more quickly. The HizaLibrarians can not enter the Safe Zones thanks to the efforts of Grahamaharg, the one who came to us and did what he could to alter the deep core programming-conditioning of the HizaLibraryCore. He was the one who made it so we could steal books, not HizaSoulbooks, and return them for extra HizaLibrary-credit and other tricks.”

Jadekin spoke of the idea that volunteers could gain wages as HizaLibrary Workers but the MentaCollective people soon crushed what was a dangerous lie.

0065(01)065: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: IN A TALL THIN TOWER

The HizaLibraryCity was where the Imperial City was placed in other Alternate Tamriels. It seemed that the Twisted Eternal Guardian had not told all lies. The Dwemer had created their own thirteen Alternate Tamriels that were in a great transdimensional bubble but there had been many side-effects, some of them being most unfortunate. Some of those side-effects had combined with side-effects from other events to result in even more unfortunate results.

Jadekin stood in a tall, thin tower where she could see out over part of the HizaLibraryCity. It was an altered copy of the Imperial City complete with circular outer wall and White Gold Tower at its center. The HizaLibraryComplex was underground. The city itself had many Dwemer buildings, the inner ring walls, the spoke walls radiating out from the center of the city, along with some satellite, ring walled places outside the city proper. The Undercity was still above the HizaLibraryComplex though it ran quite deep.

KalizakinDa indicated the buildings. “Strictly speaking that is not part of the HizaLibraryComplex. There are people who struggle to survive there. About half are Dwemer but there are other Mer and nonMer there also. Old species and race based prejudices have died as groups have been forced to combine in order to survive against the HizaLibrarians, the dancing dead and other threats. The dancing dead do not normally get into that part of the city, the HizaLibrarians mostly ignore it but they must put up with a constant struggle to survive. Whirla Sickness strikes people down, young and old but mostly the more elderly. While the MentaCollective has people there, not all there are part of the MentaCollective.”

It was a sunlit world but not brightly so. Yet the dancing dead did not like the sunshine any more than normal zombies did and avoided it. Out in the semiwilderness of the HizaLibraryIsland the dancing dead, the hizazombies, had vanished into cave systems or just dug themselves underground. Sometimes they sheltered in abandoned, often broken, buildings. During daylight hours the dancing dead, closer to the sunshine, tended to go into a kind of slumbering state being almost comatose.

KalizakinDa frowned. “The dancing dead drove all the goblinfolk, and other such wildfolk, away from the island. They have devoured many animals, fed on many people but they have made dangerous enemies. During the day strange entities, that we do not know the true nature of, hunt the dancing dead in the overgrown forests, villages and other places on the island. They find them, sometimes digging them up, and destroy them while the hizazombies are still motionless. Every time a dancing dead is actually killed, the HizaSoulbook that one was linked to, is destroyed.”

Shakira frowned. “Most strange! Create HizaSoulbooks and, in doing so, create the dancing dead; then throw the dancing dead out into the semiwilderness where they can be destroyed. Why not just keep the dancing dead contained so that the HizaSoulbooks remain safer?”

KalizakinDa grinned slightly. “I have come to think that it is because the HizaLibraryCore can not tolerate the idea of having such wild entities inside the HizaLibraryComplex itself. It is a victim of its own powerful programming-conditioning. It can not, will not, allow disruptions to take place in the libraries proper or even threaten to take place there. Another mystery is how do so many of the dancing dead get into the abandoned areas of the HizaLibraryComplex like the one where you met the monstrous Twisted Eternal Guardian and then met us?”

Jadekin noted a short sharp flash of light in an area of the island. “A a dancing dead being killed?”

“Yes! A HizaSoulbook will just have been destroyed and a trapped soul will have been released back into the natural cycle of life and death.” KalizakinDa grinned lightly. “SashaShaza told us so!”

0066(01)066: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: MEETING SASHASHAZA

SashaShaza was a scholar who dwelt high in that same tower. She used the ancient quasimagical telescope there to study patterns in the night sky. The night sky did not show the normal patterns of stars and other planets. The two moons of Secunda and Masser could be seen as bright white moons. From Tamriel Secunda was normally seen as dark grays and Masser as reddish. SashaShaza spoke of strange moving patterns of colored lights moving through the night sky, of constellations of stars that changed every night, of strange creatures drifting through space and many other odd sightings.

SashaShaza turned from where she was doing some fine adjustments to the controls of the quasimagical telescope. She smiled at the newcomers. She was Dwemer and very old even by the standards of the Mer. “Most amazing, all three of you. Come in. KalizakinDa, old friend, will you please go and get some hot tea.”

After KalizakinDa smiled, and then departed, SashaShaza smiled some more at the newcomers. “It is good to see newcomers after such a long time. The MentaCollective is isolated from others, of the living, in the city. The dancing dead can not come here. I have been studying the night sky ever since everything changed, spending a good deal of time in regenerative deep sleep only to wake to study changes. Everything changed and everything went wrong.”

The newcomers understood, then, that this woman had extended out her life for the sole purpose of gaining more knowledge, or so it seemed.

Jadekin spoke. “What are the HizaSoulbooks?”

SashaShaza turned to Jadekin with a soft frown. “Such is not my area of focused knowledge or expertise but I will try my best to answer your question. In truth they were not even part of the original Dwemer plan. Like the HizaSoulkeys and HizaSoulgems, they began to appear after everything went wrong. There is one you need talk to, about such matters, and that is the Sage ZezkindaDa. Sometimes he visits the MentaCollective. We exchange goods, services and information.” She sighed. “I am not part of the MentaCollective though they respect me and assist me. You need to be wary of them for they are not all they seem to be. Yet I doubt that surprises at least two of you.”

Baurus shook his head. “Does not surprise me either though I am a mere mortal.”

SashaShaza gave Baurus an odd smile. “Yes, that would make 'sense'.” She turned to Jadekin. “You are one whom the very flows and currents of fate are focused on.” She turned to Shakira. “You are an extreme outsider doing what?”

Shakira shook her head. “Both extreme outsider and extreme insider. We do what we are and we are what we do.”

SashaShaza looked amazed. “So I have met one of you at last, a True Eternal!”

Shakira nodded. “Yes and no! I am but an avatar of such. Still, that also makes me fully one. We are what we do and we do what we are. Tell me what you do know of the HizaSoulDevices!”

SashaShaza sighed heavily. “HizaSoulbooks entrap souls. The HizaLibrarians entrap souls into them, one soul per HizaSoulbook. The HizaSoulbooks are stored in a separate area from other books be they normal, quasimagical or of other kinds. There are also scrolls, scrollbooks, tablets, string-books and much else. The HizaSoulbooks, despite the name, do not look like books but are crystal-flesh cubes. The HizaSoulkeys and HizaSoulglobes are also made of crystal-flesh. There are HizaSoulOrbs also!”

0067(01)067: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: SPEAKING WITH SASHASHAZA

SashaShaza went on talking. “HizaSoulOrbs are not made of crystal-flesh. HizaSoulkeys are needed to lock and unlock HizaSoulbooks but they carry out other functions and can be used as weapons. HizaSoulglobes are implanted into hizazombies to control them but they do not always work. The dancing dead are one extreme result of such failures. Hizazombies serve the HizaLibraries as Library Workers, that is the ones that function properly. HizaSoulOrbs appear to be a type of distorted copy of WhirlaKeys that failed to be functional as copies of Whirlakeys.”

=-=HizaSoulOrbs are not to be confused with False WhirlaKeys that do manage to function in some ways as WhirlaKeys.

Jadekin responded, as yet again she tried to clarify matters for herself. “I am tasked with helping to send WhirlaKeys and False WhirlaKeys to a special safe place. I am also tasked with destroying HizaSoulbooks, HizaSoulkeys, HizaSoulgems and HizaSoulOrbs.”

SashaShaza lost her smile. “The MentaCollective is trying to collect and study such devices so as to learn what we can from them to solve the many problems that we face. Sage ZezkindaDa assists us in our cause though, strictly speaking, he is not of us.”

“Better to destroy them for they corrupt powerfully any mortals, with a very few exceptions, who attempt to know them.” Shakira spoke out. “HizaSoulDevices have been created in other timespace zones, in other alternates, even at the very end of the last Great Cycle. 'Hiza' as a term is linked with the malignance, with the distortion and self delusions of one set of factions who follow the TwistedGod. There were the HizaLords, the HizaEmpire, the HizaCollective and much else.”

SashaShaza looked troubled. “I have been having doubts about our studies into the HizaSoulDevices, as have others, but Sage ZezkindaDa has pressed us to do more of it. When we trade we do so by giving him HizaSoulDevices and results of our studies. Last time we met he asked that we start experimenting on captured animals, using HizaSoulDevices and, after a vote on the matter, we refused to do so. He got quite angry about it and then stormed out. It was very unlike the man I have known for a very very long time but he seems to have changed, to have grown colder, more aloof, arrogant and somehow... disturbing to be with.”

Jadekin frowned softly. “Do you have any of the HizaSoulDevices here?”

SashaShaza nodded. “In special storage. Please follow me.”

The items were in the chamber, being a large metal locker lit inside with reddish light. It was a small, basic chamber with a thick armored door of metal. There were basic metal racks running down one wall. It was designed to hold many HizaSoulDevices but much of it was empty. There were five glistening crystal-flesh globes, HizaSoulglobes, four short trident like HizaSoulkeys and one HizaSoulbook. Jadekin did not hesitate but, aiming her hands at the crystal-flesh things, she shot them with pulses of glowing, fiery yellow-white energies and destroyed them. They burned away to leave behind nothing.

SashaShaza had gone to protest but, somehow, had not managed to do so. Now she sighed openly with relief. “I wish we (the MentaCollective) had gained the courage to do that.”

Shakira turned to SashaShaza with a look of concern and something else that was harder to define. She reached out and gripped SashaShaza by both hands. “It is time to make you free!”

0068(01)068: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: DARK ACTS EXPOSED

SashaShaza looked startled as she vanished with a sparkling shimmer, which was an understandable reaction. The sparkling shimmer effect continued and then she was back again but she had changed. Not obviously so except that she looked younger, she seemed happier and her eyes looked different somehow.

Shakira spoke. “Instigating such test-transformations is not something to be lightly done. You are enhanced of mind, body and spirit. You are free of the secret controlling influence that somebody had over you. I suspect that Sage ZezkindaDa has at least something to do with that. I strongly suggest that you all come with us to where the peoples live in the city.”

“No, they are all evil there except for the slaves and hostages.” The other woman shook her head as if trying to clear out cobwebs from her mind. “They are the HizaCollective. We would not have meant to send you into a trap, being under weakening mind control, but we would have done so by suggesting you go see Sage ZezkindaDa there; he is an evil, cunning man. We were fighting his mind control. Which is why we refused to carry out those experiments on animals., He utilized a WhirlaKey against us in order to enslave our minds in the first place otherwise he would not have had the power to do so.”

Jadekin smiled. “We need to go an talk to this evil sage and to get that WhirlaKey from him.”

KalizakinDa entered with a tray of tea things and hard dry travel-biscuits. He smiled and Shakira went over to him as if to help with the tray. She grabbed up the tray as he vanished, with a sparkling shimmer, then he was there again but he was enhanced of mind, body and spirit as SashaShaza had already become.

SashaShaza gave Shakira a look of deep curiosity. “Why are you instigating test-transforms of people here and now?”

Shakira shrugged. “It felt to be the right time and place, the right people, the right situation. You, of the MentaCollective, need to be freed and strengthened so that you can fight the HizaCollective and other threats such as the HizaLibrarians. That is if you choose to remain here in the rather precarious situation you are in.”

KalizakinDa seemed troubled. “We do not know if this is actually one of the Thirteen Dwemer Alternate Tamriels that they attempted to create using thirteen stolen WhirlaKeys linked to the Whirla of Fate. There was one based on a great library city but it was not of 'Hiza' and had none of the evil of this place such as the HizaLibrarians, the dancing dead or the HizaSoulbooks.”

SashaShaza turned and walked to the quasimagical telescope. “I want to show you some of the things that appear in the night sky that this amazing device is able to pick up. Look to the viewing-mirror.”

The rectangular mirror was showed non-reversed mirror like images of the moons Secunda and Masser. Vast, strange, transparent jelly creatures passed slowly, undulating through the blackness. Stars showed in strange patterns. A glowing crystal flying-saucer shot through the sky and then vanished. A naked woman, translucent and plumply voluptuous, appeared also briefly, being large enough to block off the sight of Secunda for a moment.

Shakira laughed softly and then explained to the others. “That is neotimespace, is not quite real but not quite unreal. It exists, in a fashion, just outside of real timespace.” She did not explain what the laughter had been about.

0069(01)069: Of JADEKIN OF THE MAGEBORN: GOING TO JADEKINARIA

A very gentle shivering sensation ran through everything. All 'sensed' it to some degree.

Jadekin took out her WhirlaFinder and fully activated it. She studied the curious data screen, tapped a couple of buttons and then spoke. “The WhirlaFinder will take us much closer to the nearest WhirlaKey, now that it is fully recharged. Before that we need to deal with the rest of the MentaCollective and perhaps send you to sanctuary.”

That is what happened. Jadekin opened up a temporary Waygate and the test-transform MentaCollective members went through to EvaLaketown of the TransDomain of Jadekinaria. They took many resources with them including Dwemer devices and knowledge. The Waygate cost her a fairly large quantity of fategame resources, a trade off instead of a more direct use of many of them. She was learning the more subtle aspects of being an effective FategamePlayer. She was not just saving people but building up the resources for Empress Jadekia to use in Jadekinaria against various threats there.

When the last MentaCollective Follower was gone, along with possessions, animals and other items, she closed off the temporary Waygate so that it vanished.

When Jadekin, Shakira and Baurus were once more alone, Jadekin turned to Shakira. “What was it that you did not say to SashaShaza about neotimespace?”

“What you 'sensed', that is that the world is in great danger along with the two projected moons above us.” Shakira shook her head, frowning. “If no way can be found to save this world and the life on it, this bizarre Alternate Tamriel, than we will have to abandon it to seek safety.”

Jadekin activated the WhirlaFinder and the three of them vanished from the tall, slender tower with a sparkling shimmer. They appeared in EvaLaketown and Empress Jadekia was waiting for them to appear, along with other folks.

=-=Jadekin, you need a rest, some time to consider matters and to, hopefully, build up resources. Also the new Empress of Jadekinaria needs your assistance. Not only are there threats in Jadekinaria but strange things are happening here that indicate that here may lie some major clues, or more, to the mystery of your pasts, your combining, of your very existence. This will allow Jadekin, Jadelegs, Jadekia to better carry out the fategame contract signed and to assist others, perhaps whole worlds. Remember, time passes more quickly here than it does in the Alternate Tamriels.

The Voice had spoken to all three of the Jadekin Aspects.

EvaLaketown was largely peaceful but there were obvious preparations for war taking place. A transparent dome now covered the town and above that, an energy dome.

The Imperial Commonwealth Central Government had suddenly declared it was now part of the new Imperial Dominion and that it intended to conquer the whole of Jadekinaria in the name of 'true strength, discipline and freedom'. The Imperial Commonwealth existed in name only being fragmented and, sometimes, disunited against itself. The FreeAlliance was struggling to get fully prepared to fight the newly renamed enemy. Some parts of the Imperial Commonwealth had gone with the new Imperial Dominion, even if unwanted by the Imperial Dominion, but most were against the new regime. Mechanicoto declared itself independent as the Autonomous Citystate of Mechanicoto and stated it would sell its goods, and services, to both sides. Shortly afterward it was discovered that Mechanicoto had offered a secret deal to the Imperial Dominion to sell it goods, and services, at cut rates.
