. It's not a normal game, it was practically broken when I first installed it and with every single tweak and small change I make it becomes even more unreliable. If it doesn't immediately function perfectly when you install it then it is beyond redemption.

Interesting claim ... that all games of note worthy should function perfectly when you install them.

So ummm ... what world do you live in ?

I'll cut to the chase ... yes this game takes some extra care. But the hours of game play it gives are way beyond simple linear games. Games you are done with in 15 - 20 hrs

This one can produce a couple hundred hrs of game play ... especially helped by the modding community. Which does work for most people ... cuz the community wouldn't be here if it didn't.

So either stick with it does not work for you ... and move on. Or spend some time to get it working ... which Alot of people have done before your disgruntled self decided to say ... it does not work , for anybody.

And to be clear ... we are fine with the 5 - 10% that bad mouth it because they don't get their easy button fix. In short ... go f*#@ yourself ... cuz the community is here to help those who help themselves.

Sorry I feel like I used run on sentences in that spiel ...

with a more clarity rendition ...

let me know if you would like to learn to mod ,,, cuz purrforme doesnt know how. And I like to make sure people get what they invested into the game.

Run and have run fo3goty edition via steam, with fose and fomm, modded, using loot and fo3edit, on Win xppro, 7pro, and 10pro--all successfully, tolerating a rare crash. When it crashes more than rarely then it is because of mod conflict or a failure on my part to apply the various fixes accurately. It is rather tedious to do but I have recently, in the past 5 years, reinstalled carefully using the 2 excellent guides available on steam and the many helpful notes by the modders at nexus.

Now, it is true this game is not one that runs perfectly smooth all the time. It is too bad that it does not. Yet the unique greatness of this game, what keeps pulling me back, since the original release date, to replay over and again, is the way I have grown to love this game. I wish it was easy to install and mod and troubleshoot, but once the hard work of installation is done it is always worth the trouble. If I did not love the game I would not as it were "defend" it. If the game is excessively irksome, and I can understand how it can be excessively irksome to some, then do not bother trying to get it to work because it will stress you out to no end. At this point in history I would say FO3GOTY is a cult classic with all of its flaws, which do not deter those of us who love it from trying it again, no matter what OS or what version of an OS we happen to have to use.

I have to go with a +1 on that .

But I have to say ... once you learn to manipulate the game with the geck , even on a small level , just securely grasping one of the concepts / processes ...

Load order problems are secondary.

Oh ya ... my earlier mention of Purr4Me ... she knows more about modding last year ... than I will probably ever known . Wish we could have modded on Fo4 release. but sorry , stuck in Fo3 is me.

And the chance is you will be modding Fo3 soon again.

Thanks, but have ya noticed how they keep people on their toes with newer games, they keep changing things, breaking things that most tools are made to work with break. Updating the games data Fallout 4 and all the rest, YET, little old Fallout 3 remains solid pushed aside, out to pasture, under the porch.. HA ! even some older games still rock.

To night I played for abut 6 hours non stop except to add on a mod or two.

figured out a really sneaky way to get some things into the game without programing it, wasting a lot of time.

I like to make the biggest hit on the games system with the least amount of data possible.

Fallout 3 will always be my favorite. Fr me, easy to install and configure. I know exactly what does what and where it does it.

it's a lot of fun. I see where things can improve on the overall game.
