Serana: Welcome or Unwelcome?

About being forced into trusting and vouching for her, I don't mind on my current character. He's a Nord who grew up in Cyrodiil and before coming to Skyrim only knew what he read or heard about Nord culture as a child. as a result he strives to embody all those ideals of the perfect Nord, courage, honour, hospitality and loyalty. That means giving Serana the benefit of the doubt, if she betrayed him he wouldn't have hesitated for a second to cut her in half, but if she's nice to him, he's nice to her.

I do see how it's annoying to others though and on principle I disagree with railroading the player into a certain way of playing in an RPG, especially one as open as Skyrim. I have a bit of a problem with just how much content forces you to be evil, but on the other hand, it can make for very interesting roleplay when your character is forced to break his own rules.

since she has (unique) ai (maybe) it would be better to add some additional features...so far earning her friendship and stuff depends on correct answers or questions, but there could be more dialogue options in dawnguard in general.

Like Orthjolf ..I soooo want to intimidate him as him and Vingalmo piss me off the most.

My roleplaying is based on my character's impulsive behaviour...act all high and mighty around her and not even divines will save you  Did I mention that I can't really wander around towns while in rp mode? simply every single "we all heard about you and honeyed words" "cause trouble and your off to Cidha mine" equals spilled blood.

But onto main topic...Serana judging your actions, interactions elsewhere etc etc would be nice.

I'd say she's welcome - for now, at least.

First of all, I just love her character, how tentative, fragile, perhaps even a little bit childish and curious of everything she is, especially at the beginning, which is understandable, considering she was locked tight in that sarcophagus in Dimhollow for Talos knows how long. To be honest, I love the very fact that she has any character at all. She also appears to be in need of some attention and warmth, which is again intelligible, given the fact that she cames from rather disfunctional family, what with her father, himself cold and heartless even by Vampire standards, being as far from caring as a Vampire Lord can be and her mother banished and gone; I think that's why she's so friendly and outgoing and was so quick to put her trust into the Dragonborn (well, that and a fact that she didn't have much choice at the moment, did she?). I also really enjoy listening to her every word because of that seductive, Bloodrayne voice; looking at her doesn't hurt my eyes, either, if you know what I mean. And despite her misleading, innocent look, she actually handles herself pretty well in combat. I must say, compared to some other female followers in Skyrim, I think Serana is a big step forward.

As I said, my opinion on her may change over time and probably will, but for now, she's all I need as a follower.

yes she is definitely the most interesting character so far , at least for me..if nothing else she absolutely doesn't fit in any other vampire character or identity throughout entire elder scrolls series

i like her quite a bit...she is a bit overpowered though...she kills omst everything before you get a chance to do much...but she has a lot of personality for sure and a really fleshed out npc for a bethesda game.

At higher levels (my Nord character is lvl 44 now) she is less overpowered and more often than not it is only her protected status that prevents her from perishing.

Anyway, I like her personality, even after listening the umpteenth time to her resigned comments about dark caves and such. Since I'm using a "Back Off" mod she always stays far behind me so she is not so annoying (in close quarters she can be trouble though). Still, as many other commenters have already said in this topic, she has the best personality of all Bethesda NPC followers.

Well they are only two or three quest that can recall that are some what roleplaying and have two diffrent endings, helping cicero whit his mother, quest whit sade in whiterun and fandeal and the sven quest.

Mabey they are others whit the new dlc but have not find them yet.

But yeah i agree should be more options when it comes to te quest, the most are just do it or not.

Serana is 'unwelcome' in my game....due to a few reasons....

1/ My personal favoring's are firmly towards the Animal nature (Werewolves) rather than the Undead (Vamps)...am not a Vamp fan.

2/ I never use Followers as they drive me nuts with taking off after every red dot, messing up the stealth, charging forward...that inevitably often leads to an arrow up their butt and my Dragonborn's position given away....Serana's enforced Follower status for such an extended period drove me insane, considering the fact also that I never Fast Travel...ended up breaking that rule a few times with Serana in tow.... :(

3/ Serana's idling behavior and banter messed with dialogs from other NPC's on a number of occasions....funny story speaking of which....My Dragonborn had Serana in tow when he attended Kodlak's Funeral....there's Kodlak's body laid out on the pyre on the Skyforge, everyone standing around paying their respects and Serana thought that would be a grand moment to start working the Forge....what!!.... ....

4/ I like quiet and thus so does my Dragonborn....Serana's banter at his back was not welcome.

My Dragonborn is a Werewolf and has been RP'ed for quite some time as having a vehement hatred for Vamps...suffice to say he wasn't actually a complete *ss to Serana, but he wasn't warm either....was aloof....of course he lost the opportunity to get her to give up her Vamp status...I do have plans in the works for him to be able to do something about that, but am still working out any possible implications first.

Sounds like the average banter of the Modern Day woman! LOL! No Offense. I'm married, and sometimes my wife has moments like those, and we laugh about it! :-)

So far Serana is one of, if not my favorite NPCs in Skyrim. Not only is she the only NPC in Skyrim with an actual back story, but she has a personalty that's not simple McSimple "Skyrim belongs to the Nords" like certain other NPCs.

So yes for me she is definitely welcome.
